We should have been about 6. 1. Up at half time. As we were not the daggers picked us off second half when we were poor.

Cheltenham are gone but it's anyone's guess between Tranmere, Hartlepool and Carlisle for that second spot.

I just think their remaining games are too difficult - they cannot buy a win whatsoever and the only game they have that looks remotely winnable is Cambridge at home next Tuesday. Would one win be enough? I reckon they would need a minimum of six or seven more points and I think they'll be lucky to get four.

Hartlepool have probably got the nicest run-in, and they're the side in form so I'd say they will be ok.

As above, I think Cheltenham are gone. Both Tranmere and Carlisle have then got two really big games left each - Oxford and Mansfield for Tranmere, Hartlepool and Dagenham for Carlisle. Those fixtures will probably swing it between which of those two joins Cheltenham, of which Carlisle's are both at home which could prove an advantage as, apart from against the top ten, your home record against the rest of the division is very good.

Cheltenham and Tranmere to drop.

There's a few things I don't understand Carlisle fans. In the summer, when I was looking through the squads, I noticed Gary Dicker with you and thought, bloody hell, there's a good player for League 2. We come up against Dicker in League 1 when he was with Brighton and he was decent and a part of their League 1 winning squad. Why on earth is he a sub for one of the worst teams in League 2? Has he really fallen that far? Also has Billy Paynter really gone that much to shit? Weren't long ago he was comfortably League 1 class. Sweeney's always struck me as a tidy player in midfield as well. Archibald-Henville has always been solid at this level etc.

Explain please.

Well, of the players you've just listed:
Dicker - released from Crawley I believe before joining us which probably epitomises his drop in quality from when you saw him. He has nevertheless been solid when he plays for us but has been out injured for a while and, when he was asked to do extra training sessions to speed up his fitness recovery so that he could be starting again sooner, he complained to the PFA. Think he'll be starting soon though.

Paynter - absolute shit, not scored a league goal for 2 years, big donkey stealing a big wage. Made a decent impact sub recently just to link up play but he'll never be a starting player in this league again I don't think.

Sweeney - crap at the start of the season, got transfer listed and then cleaned his act up temporarily. Got a great assist for Wyke in a recent 1-0 win over Cheltenham and soon after that got injured. Last spotted at Victoria Park celebrating a Hartlepool win a couple of weeks ago.

Archibald-Henville - not his best game today but has been one of our best players when he's played this season, be therein lies the problem; he has badly injured knees which mean he was out for a couple of months at the start of the season and also can't play more than once a week. Still one of our best players though.

My own personal view is Curle tried to remove our highest earners about November-Dec time by treating them like sh*t and hoping it would make them just so want away from the club they'd take a pay-cut and just go.

He got rid of one as Marrow went, but the other high earners stayed, the problem with this tactic if i was correct is its left us with a demoralised squad and numerous players who frankly do not want to A: play for Curle or B: play for Carlisle but just will take the pay check.

Did he actually celebrate it though, or was he just at it? I don't begrudge him going to Hartlepool games, he still lives there and spent most of his career there, players going to football matches in their spare time when injured surely isn't that controversial. I read it on our forum and nobody seemed to have any evidence that he wasn't simply watching from the stands, yet everyone seemed to assume he'd done a lap of honour naked with blue and white stripes painted on his bollocks at the end of the game.

I was delighted when we signed Dicker. He was class for Brighton and looked a cut above league 1 that season.

He's been disappointing to say the least. He's not played enough games and of the games he's played he hasn't produced the expected performances in enough games.

Was one of our best players for the first half of the season before he got injured. What happened next is pure speculation. Dave has a theory, and there is some credibility to that, alternative was that he genuinely was injured and has only just returned, or both could be true. We've missed him since his injury... Danny Kearns is another one, although he has been known to try one too many stepovers, he looks quite classy, spent part of the season in Ireland getting his head together for some unknown reason.

EDIT: Myself and HG clearly disagree on Dicker.

Cheltenham look absolutely nailed on for relegation unfortunately for you (good for my bet though

) I think you'd still be trying to score if the game was being played now, for all the promising play I can't really remember Day ever being tested.

Not really. I rate him, but he hasn't produced the "Stevenage at home" levels of performsnces enough. There's been too many Burton at home and Dagenham away type performances.

I think he's the type of player who'll be excellent in a dominant, winning team, he'll keep the game running and set the pace. It's when he's in a team on the back foot and struggling to get a foothold in the game where he's less effective.

True, though I think a lot of players are like that... certainly at this level. Players who can grab hold of a game where you're playing badly and turn it around are like gold-dust. Teams at the top of this league I'd say, mostly have those players, teams at the bottom mostly lack them.

No idea mate. A couple of weeks ago I would have said we were absolutely dead and buried, but 10 points from 12 (and, barring a 96th minute equaliser at Gillingham, it would have been 12 from 12) has really pulled us right back into the thick of it with six teams within a three point reach of us now - and we still have to play two of them between now and next weekend.

All to play for again all of a sudden, which in a way is a little frustrating as I had previously given up all hope and it's back now... it's the hope that kills you!

Sweeney was past his best 3 or 4 years ago, last year we were a bottom 6 side and he couldn't get in to it, this year he trasfered to another bottom 6 side and can't get into that one, good luck moving him on

Point I'm making is that whereas once he was a decent league one player , now he is merely a squad player for teams without even league 2 mid table aspirations, 10 years ago he was at his peak for us, 10 YEARS AGO! There is no manager with promotion or play off ambitions with his name on thier shopping list, think about that if he is retained , or even if he is already contracted for next year

He's contracted for next year. I'm not too bothered about it though, our future doesn't hinge on whether or not Sweeney is in our squad. If we do somehow manage to stay up and have ambitions beyond another relegation battle I'm sure we'll bring in more midfielders, some of whom may be better players than Sweeney.
