Marquis is wasted at Pompey with their style, proven goalscorer with the right set up.

I'm glad someone that isn't a Pompey fan said it! We've genuinely ruined him, he's lost all confidence since being here. Firstly played as a lone striker with no genuine 10, and then Kenny thought "well if I have no genuine 10, why don't I make John the 10?? Genius!"

You can imagine how that's worked out.

Based on what I saw yesterday, there's no way we'll be going down... Last three home games, wins against Oxford,Pompey and Bristol Rovers yesterday, all whilst playing some very good attacking football, the Tisdale shackles have been firmly removed and the free flowing attacking football is back, we'll take a hammering on occasions, but we've more than enough to move up the table now.

We're actually not bottom of the form table for the last 6 games. :woot: 4 Draws and 2 losses take us above Ipswich

Tough game against Sunderland, it could never be anything else. Real gutsy performance from the Cods and a draw was a fair result for both sides.Surprised Sunderland are'nt higher in the league and without doubt will be in the mix come season end
We have now drawn our last 3 home games having been in front in two, Not getting that vital second goal but all things being equal the team are doing terrific
Expect some loan signings this month so lets see who comes in

I agree that we might have drawn the game today, or even won it, had Ferrier's penalty gone in. However, that can't disguise the fact that our squad is not really fit for purpose at this level, particularly when we have injuries in key areas, which we have for the majority of the season.

The January transfer window is massive for us, and the Clarke signing looks like a decent one, but relegation seems likely now.
Unusually pessimistic for you, RLC?

I am just struggling to see who will be worse than us, other than Southend and Bolton.

MK Dons have got a decent squad on paper and will probably pull clear; Henderson is back and scoring goals for Rochdale and they always seem to escape; perhaps Accrington could be sucked back in ?

I think Wimbledon are the team we are most likely to catch, but they still have a prolific goalscorer in Forss (assuming his loan is extended).

We have to hope the January signings have the same impact as last season, although the squad as a whole is much weaker relative to the rest of the division this time around. A decent performance on Saturday might do something to lift spirits......

Pretty much every area of our team needs strengthening, that's a fair summary. Risk of throwing away two years of progress unless we spend some cash and fast. Feel strangely more confident about beating Watford than I did Coventry though. One minor miracle against them for the season was enough, two was pushing it(!)

What the hell has happened to your pitch?

Liverpool women played three games in a week during one of the heaviest rainy periods, and it just destroyed it. That and the fact we don't have a full time groundsman combines to create something reminiscent of the Somme.

It's a disgrace really, we managed to provide a league quality pitch when we were non league, and yet now we're back it's worse than anything I saw down there.

You don't have a full-time groundsman?! What's that about?

It doesn't seem to be high on our priority list, which is a shame seeing as we get lots of business from Liverpool to use our facilities. I can only assume we're at risk of losing that, Chelsea women complained about the pitch recently (quite rightly, despite the reactionary response from our chairwoman and fans).

What we could do with is the sort of support Boreham Wood get from Arsenal - they paid for a Desso pitch, and I believe Arsenal's groundsman takes care of it.

Yeah, that's a bit weird. Presumably you have *someone* though, on a PT basis at least?

A Groundsman is one of those positions where you'd think it was pretty significant within a football club.

Us in form - you out of it.

Bound to be a draw at least then !

Probably got a good chance if Deeney , Sarr and GD aren't playing - the back ups won't be anywhere near as dangerous!

Yeah, we have a part time groundsman. Zero hour contract by the looks of things... :dk:

Sunderland away for us tomorrow.

We've played the same XI for the last three games and this is a slightly quicker turnaround from the previous game so there might be the odd change but I think Appleton will want to keep it the same.

4 wins from 6 , with two narrow defeats, which is a good upturn in form for the time being.

Tranmere must have the worst playing surface in the football league, it’s like a rugby league pitch from the 1970’s. Looking around the Northern Premier league I can’t find a worse surface, very embarrassing!

Referee lost his contact lens, this is the result of the search party.

No, as the others have said, we don't have a groundsman and it's all a bit of a farce. It's not as though we have any home advantage on it - we're equally as inept on clay as we are on grass.

Sunderland's 2nd and 3rd goals sound that bad I'm not sure I can even bring myself to watch them.

A little bit of a 'walk before you can run' moment today IMO playing Grant and Morrell in CM and leaving O'Connor on the bench. We've gone up there with no sitting midfielder and with Morrell who presses high and Grant who's played this season on the wing so it was a little bit gung-ho.

Luke, the second was beyond stupid. Today we found a new level in our stupidity with the ball in defence. Sunderland didn't even have to work for the 3 goal lead.

Back to League matters this weekend after the Cup exploits are over for another year, and a trip to a Posh side who once again are spending money all over the place despite that tactic not actually getting them anywhere for years, other than financially better off.

We might have one new face by the weekend but chances are it may come a week too soon, so it'll be the same group of players as featured in the West Ham game, plus Mika Mandron who comes back in after missing Sunday due to the birth of his child. The lesser-spotted Matty Willock was on the bench at the weekend and probably will be again, but it'll be interesting to see how we go up front - Mandron straight back in for Jakubiak who seems better coming off the bench? Maybe even Marshall coming in for a start and tweaking the shape slightly. We have a decent enough midfield which is pretty flexible these days, but as ever it's that forward line where all the issues lie.

Which brings us neatly onto Posh. Obviously they're hugely impressive in an attacking sense, but that's been the case for several years now yet they haven't been promoted for a while. Tends to suggest the problem area is further back, although the signings of Kent and Pym in vital positions in the back 5 over the summer suggest DMAC has FINALLY noticed. Dan Butler is a player I wanted us to pick up on a free in the summer, but there's no doubt that this Posh side will provide chances on Saturday - will we manage to take them? Probably not.

We have a pretty mixed record at London Road over the last few years - a mixture of wins, draws and defeats makes this a pretty even contest for 6 or 7 years. No doubt Posh will be favourites, and we'll get described as 'A poor Gillingham side' regardless of result or performance, and I can see us losing this 2-1.

Bonham
Fuller - Ehmer - Tucker - Ogilvie
Jones
O'Keefe - O'Connor
Lee
Mandron - Hanlan

Walsh, Hodson, Marshall, Jakubiak, Willock, Pringle, Ndjoli/New signing.

Up the bloody Gills.

Away at Shrewsbury for us tomorrow.

We can't compete with them physically (based on the game at SB) so we'll have to rely on knocking it about but we're not completely up to speed with MA's way yet either.

Bostwick is out for a couple of months so that leaves us with two CB's. Only new signing likely to start would be Connor Coventry I imagine, but I'm not sure even he will.

All that said, our away form is absolutely horrendous this season anyway. Polar opposite to at home.

Bolton at home. A game we need to win.

Our injury crisis appears to be clearing up, somewhat.

Sanchez
Matheson - O'Connell - McShane - Norrington-Davies (hopefully - Keohane if RND still unready)
Camps - Ryan
Dooley - Rathbone - Keohane (Baah or Done if Keohane needed at LB)
Henderson.

Subs to include Wilbraham, McLaughlin, Morley, Andrew and Lynch.

No sentiment towards Keith Hill - convincing home win...

It feels like we're trying to gift Southend the game here. Abysmal, almost comical defending, but somehow it's all level still.

We’re getting humped at the Stadium of Light, 3-0 down and apparently could have been worse. Great.

Beat Fleetwood 1.0 with a last minute goal.
Nice to bounce back after the horror show against Northampton.
2 points off the play offs.
Its all tightened up with the chasing pack.

Well..our first clean sheet at home in a long long time definitely over a year. Tranmere the only side to not beat us this season. Awful game mind both bad sides.
Give it to Sol he certainly has stopped us losing but we certainly don’t look like winning

Traumatisingly bad game of football and officiating. Both teams deserve to be relegated, the referee taken away and shot and I want my day back. Roll on Tuesday, Watford must be shitting themselves.
