Why should we wait for for PL and EFL to make a decision?

I'd imagine clubs down here don't have the luxury of time when financially clubs live hand to mouth, we've asked all staff to take an immediate 20% pay cut, Yeovil 50%, Barnet put all non playing staff on notice, how long can clubs wait?

As per Evening Standard: "However, it is thought the majority of National League clubs, even some of those pushing for promotion, have reluctantly agreed that voiding the campaign is the only realistic way forward."

Let me guess, a bankrolled outfit with a 3G pitch?

How does ending the season now solve the problem? Either way, your revenue is zero.

Because whatever happens it isn’t going to be any time soon and I can’t see how it would affect any of that.

The only thing would be when players’ contracts expire, but that still give us at least a few weeks to wait and see how things develop.

Can clubs not take advantage of the 80% grant? I can imagine the vast majority of players and staff in this league earn less than the £2500 threshold.

Our club released a new statement yesterday in light of the recent government measures and most of our staff are now being kept on.

Sure, your incoming is zilch, when do you propose we restart the season? This isn't going away soon, players contracts run up till June? July? What then? Do we renegotiate contracts with playing staff in the hope that we can get restarted in August? Ask them to play for nowt?

We’re going to have to restart football eventually, and all of this will have to happen at that point either way. It might as well be to finish a season that everyone has put loads of work into rather than to start a completely new one.

Ending the season now resolves nothing. Contracts up in June, whenever matches start again you start paying players. That makes no difference financially regardless of whether we cancel this season or not.

Yes contracts run out, but players can stay on a weekly basis until they‘re signed by another club and no club (except Solihull) is going to sign anyone up during the enforced break.

Exactly, the choice is essentially between altering an incomplete season or altering a season that doesn't exist yet, why pick the former?

That money is supposed to be invested, to ensure clubs survive after the financial impact of falling from the football league. Yeovil spunking it all in one season isn't a valid reason to ask for more in my humble opinion.

Don't clubs get a 2nd year of parachute payments anyway?

It's hardly spunking it, it's to stop us going bust!

And Harrogate.

I'd rather we just resume the season when it's safe, even if it's with make-shift squads with whoever is still under contract or willing to stay on beyond their contracts. Most players would be willing, I'm sure.

I'm not sure I buy that you didn't spunk your cash in a 1 season effort to get back into the league. Why should Yeovil get extra cash from the league and not, say, Barnet?

Neal Ardley happens to be doing a webchat for our local paper currently and was obviously asked about what’s happening. He reckons that all Notts have heard is that no decision has been taken, and clubs haven’t even been asked their views on it yet.

Is that even practical? Unless you have a sugar daddy chairman how are clubs supposed to keep a 20+ man playing squad together with no income to support it?

Same as all companies with staff.

Our Chairman has just clarified that he has asked staff and players to take pay deferrals rather than cuts pending potential aide. He's waiting to see if the government job retention schemes covers the business or even football in general.

Yep and without help from above us in the pyramid how many clubs will survive to see a 2020/2021 season?

See the situation with Barnet: Government funding should help most clubs cover the costs. I agree that the FA and Premier League should be contributing something, but the government are the ones saying they will help everyone out.

Baffling, particularly if Ardley is right and clubs haven’t even been asked.

This seems like an irrational panic and if they think things are messy and chaotic now, they will be in for a nasty shock when they get into the detail on promotion and relegation.

I get the desire for certainty within businesses but no decision made by the NL now has any impact on a deadly global pandemic. They need to accept the situation is out of their hands, sit tight and make use of the government help where necessary.

Presumably no other European country has made a decision on their seasons yet, either?

I don't know about non-leagues across Europe but the top flights all seem to be awaiting direction from UEFA. The Highland League in Scotland have ended their season and given Brora the title, but they have no relegation and only one promotion spot, and Brora were 13 points clear with games in hand, so there was no controversy.

I was dead set against this ppg idea but right now I'm thinking it's not that silly, ppg is based on this season's results and more importantly, this season's playing squads. Now I don't know how many out of contract players there'll be come June, but some clubs will be have quite a few more than others, that's a fact.

It stands to reason that should the league resume in the summer, the fewer out of contract players one's got the better. And should the league resume, then this will definitely make a huge difference to the promotion race and relegation battle. The club that has lost say 2 or 3 first team regulars will have a quite considerable advantage over another side that has lost 7 regulars.

They should do everything they can to extend.

If they seriously can't then I wouldn't mind PPG but null and void is looking most likely and will mean the last 8 months have been wasted.

I cannot see Barrow standing for it. And if they do then then they don't deserve to go up.
