Mickey Mellon in the frame for the Dundee Utd job.
Micky seems to get linked with a lot of jobs, sign of a good manager. Wouldn’t be surprised if he moves on, but this seems unlikely.

It seems that Mellon is on his way to Dundee United. Another massive blow for us but the timing makes sense for him and I wish him well.

It would have been difficult for him to motivate himself for League Two after being shafted by the EFL and losing most of his coaching staff as part of the job cuts that followed.

He is the second best manager in our history and he deserves an opportunity at a higher level.

With this relegation on his cv from league 1 where he has always seemed to struggle, it may suit him back in the basement.

It is a 'removal' rather than a relegation. You might as well argue that Bowyer has been 'relegated' at Charlton.

You got a harsh deal but the black and white of it is you got relegated.

I think as Rovers fans have said on other threads it was a demotion rather than relegation. Events in the Championship are proving Mark Palios’ point about how fluid things are at the bottom of the league. Whatever you call it, we’re here now.

Things have moved on since my original post and it’s now looking a distinct possibility that Micky may be heading to Dundee Utd. A bad year getting worse.

Demoted, removed, whatever - The end is if a side finished below 20th in that division they got relegated and ply the trade in league 2 next term.

Maybe when Mansfield won the conference we were elevated to league 2 instead of promoted

He wanted to move to a league that doesn't delete comments on its Instagram feed.

You played a full season and we did not. Funnily enough, would you actually have been promoted that year after 34 games ?

Mate, I do feel for you but the fact remains you got relegated.

FlashScore, the bbc or sky don’t say “demoted or removed”

You got RELEGATED

Deal with it.

Hahah you’ve no comeback that’s why

What happened to Swindon Plymouth and Crewe then?- What’s your phrase for them? Elevated? Upgraded? How thoroughly ridiculous.

You got RELEGATED pal.

You could try not to be shit for 34 games if you don’t want to go down?

Looks like we're going to be appointing David Dunn as manager on Monday. Obviously his Oldham record was terrible, but seems to be highly thought of from his time as a Blackburn coach.

Possibly a little underwhelming, but so was Evatt. He'll at least have the contacts and I'm sure he's the sort that will get on with the players that we have. It'll be into the unknown, but everything about the coming season will be.

I'm still wondering how Mellon is the 2nd most successful manager in Tranmere's history? A couple of upgrades starting from amateur football and then a displacement from L1?

They never did get over finishing 10 (ten) points behind little old Macc Town in the conference and Mitch Hancox's subsequent celebrations.

That's not even a sideways move and they say there is no money in Scotland.

Think we'll be seeing quite a few L1/L2/NL players going North of the Border as the wages aren't going to drop anywhere near as much in Scotland as they will in our lower leagues.

Dundee United are what I'd regard as one of the four biggest Scottish clubs outside of the Old Firm (along with Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs) and will more than likely be making a lot more money in the SPL than Tranmere would in either Leagues 1 or 2 post COVID. They're owned by an American investor who wants to get them into Europe and they're going to make a fortune on Shankland in the next 12 months if they sell him. They're very much a club on the up.

European football past the qualifying rounds for Scottish clubs could become a more regular event with the introduction of the new UEFA Europa Conference League soon. With American investment now at Aberdeen and Dundee United, if Mellon is a good fit for them, I can see him getting them into Europe, improving their squad with his contacts South of the Border and firmly re-establishing it as a Top 4/6 Scottish side.

I know a lot of English fans are biased and ignorant to Scottish football, but for me it's a no-brainer. The state of the English lower league game is about to change dramatically as many clubs paying daft wages cut their cloth. Dundee United are one of the small band of clubs in the UK whose income is about to significantly increase next season despite the implications of COVID 19. So I don't blame Mellon for taking the job at all. Had he done it 12 months ago when they were also-rans going nowhere and Tranmere were a club very much on the up, I'd say he was barmy, but times and circumstances have changed considerably...

The summer Evatt came in we'd just scraped safety with an awful squad and then had a big wage reduction, everyone thought we'd be guaranteed to go down with a novice manager, and we all know what happened then. I have good confidence that the board know what they are looking for to build on the momentum.

The thoughts of Blackpool's fans seem to be positive on the whole, and they improved during his short caretaker spell following Grayson's sacking.

Depends on what class of European football though

I thought that Conference league was for countries leagues that are shite, like Latvia, Lithuania, Scotland, San Marino and the like.

Every nation will have at least one representative, even the big guns like England, Spain, Germany and Italy. It's designed to give more mid-ranking countries and lesser countries Champions deeper European runs, thus making them more money, but it's still going to have a few bigger European names from the top leagues who failed to make the Champions League or Europa League.

Always thought it was a good idea just didn’t know who went into it.

I used to love the cup winners cup. Shame they did away with it
