The Government said a while back that entertainment would be at the end of the line in terms of opening up. What we are seeing is a lobbying campaign to make football an exception, and presumably save the tv deals. I suspect it won’t be long before we are reminded that there were football games during WWII.
The problem we have is that the Premier League are dead set on things happening entirely on their terms. To an extent their hands are being forced by TV companies saying they'll refuse to pay if the league isn't completed by the end of June but then when you form a breakaway league to negotiate huge TV deals this is the sort of shit that happens.

I'd be more than happy to wait until autumn before playing out the rest of this season but I think most PL clubs (probably not Liverpool) if they have to hand money back to Sky Sports, would see the season as not worth finishing, with the expectation that once they get on with planning 2020/21 the TV money will start rolling in again.

We'll have our restart dictated to us by the Premier League (via the FA no doubt) and that will then impact the Conference and below. If the Premier League cancel their season then even if the EFL wants to push on and complete, the timings of the seasons might no longer match up, and they won't want to allow teams to be promoted from the Championship and so on and so forth.

If everyone involved could just be reasonable and those at the top of the chain such as the PL and TV companies accept that they will lose out just like everyone and they and can't just pass their share of burden down the chain then we'd all be fine... I think.

Don't get why TV companies wouldn't pay up if the season goes beyond the end of June. They've paid for a certain number of games, as long as those games get played and televised why does it matter when?

Like most things they're probably demanding restitution simply because they can.

The 2 sports that people bet on the most...making money for the Government.

L1 and L2 to be abandoned next week according to The Telegraph. About time, too.

The thing is with the PL now, 3 of the current bottom 6 are almost certainly going to be relegated. So it seems they've all thought it's better for every single club in the league to each lose a similar amount of money rather than play on, 17 of them get their money for next year, the promoted sides get their money and only three of them face a steep bill when their inevitable relegations are confirmed. I think that attitude is disgustingly defeatist and masks the on-field failings of clubs like Brighton, Bournemouth and Villa who deserve to be where they are. Brighton proposed playing out the season with no relegation, but who'd want to pay them millions for what will essentially be dead rubber friendly matches?

The PL made their own bed in 1992. Rick Parry and Lord Sugar were two of the parties responsible but even they've now realised the extent of the monster they've created. If the bottom 6 got their way of a void season, they'd then be up in arms when Sky, BT and Amazon would demand an immediate renegotiation of the exorbitant rights fees (which they're all perfectly entitled to do if a party is in breach of contract) and would then pay clubs considerably less when they realise how much the clubs need the money. Sky can still charge the masses the same price for football as they'll want to watch it, but capitalism will work against the PL in this instance, and club's can expect reduced incomes because Sky knows the PL won't survive without them. PL clubs might expect a white knight like Amazon and/or Google to come charging in, but why would they pay the previous price for rights if they know that the clubs need the money? You don't overpay for goods when the seller is desperate for them to be sold. I think a lot of PL fans wrongly think that the product is truly indestructible but basic economics have shown the PL is so reliant on broadcast income that it's facing a crisis if it curtails the season.

However. 14-6 is needed to pass Project restart. And barring sorcery, 14 clubs look dead safe from relegation now barring freefall. So I think the bottom 6 will have to lump it and be prepared to restart. I love seeing delusional PL armchair fans on Twitter thinking Sky will happily not want their money back for their rights. If a builder came to work on an extension at your home and didn't finish his work, you wouldn't pay him for a full job wouldn't you?

If there’s a vote in either the PL or EFL surely that would negate any possible future legal action.

I guess that would depend on the terms of the vote, but I suspect that there might be a challenge to the result from those who didn't like the outcome.

They had a vote on FFP or something budgetary, some voted for some voted against. The majority won the vote and there was no appeal or legal challenge over the result by those who lost.

Ppg promote the top 3 seems fairest way of sorting it. Whatever happens season needs cancelling asap. Waiting around is helping no one.

It's delusional to think any clubs at this level will be able to play behind closed doors. It will ruin them. Let's stop the pretence and shut the league down until there's a vaccine.

More pertinently how many ex-premier league players will they be lining up with? No body else will be able to afford them.

There's going to have to be a decision by the back end of next week.

This 56 day window to finish the season, also allowing for a couple of weeks of training before a re-start, starts closing in at the end of next week. EFL Clubs have been told not to start training until 18th May at the earliest so it's all starting to tie in.

From reading around the various journalists, and comments from Rick Parry etc, it's becoming increasingly clear that null and void is off the table, as we assumed it would be, and that PPG is coming into play more and more if the season can't be completed.

Another angle that some Clubs will be voting on is the cost implications of staging games. Accrington's Chairman basically said it'll cost more for them to play games than pay his players to do nothing and I'm assuming it'll be the same for most clubs (not just staging itself but associated player bonuses if applicable).

If there’s a vote in either the PL or EFL surely that would negate any possible future legal action.

Hopefully so, it would all depend on what is actually written into the constitution, if this area of contention is covered?
Any subsequent legal action will further delay any possibility of re-starting the existing or the next season.
As we say when a decision is made that we disagree with and we have no chance of changing because of either being out-voted or out-ranked: salute, turn to the right and get on with it...

Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 confirmed as restarting next weekend. If it goes well reckon Prem and Champ will try and follow suit in a month or so.

They seem happy to let games go on at home grounds - more faith in the fans behaving than the police here do!

How do you go about getting up for a piss? You have to walk straight past people, 4000 people leaving the ground at the same time etc. Be a nightmare to implement especially at Mansfield considering 75% of our fans have to be tanked up to watch us!
