Well done to Plymouth, Crewe and Swindon.

An already 'footballing' League 1 is shaping up to be a very attacking, expansive league next season. Will be interesting to see how Lowe gets on because at Bury, and T.A will know better than me, it felt like his Bury side gave away too many opportunities to the opposition. That said, Plymouth's GA would suggest he's been a bit better defensively there.

Our defence wasnt amazing but to be fair to them they werent helped by the midfield. There were a lot of times we would have 2 defenders back while we attacked which you can get away with in this division with a good attack. No idea how Plymouth play but they will concede a lot of goals if they are doing the exact same thing in the league higher up.

Doesn't take too much working out, but our end are saying it's looking like mid-September at the earliest for the season to start because of various timings and durations around 'off season' etc.

6 months between competitive games. Is that the biggest break since the war?

Well, our first season back in league 1 recently we did not actually start playing until December. It felt like the players were taking a break from football.
Dammit, I was gonna come here and say something along the lines of we haven't been competitive for almost 5 years.

Definitely doesn’t sound as attacking as Bury. We had a balanced midfield, although to be fair in the second half of the season, we had Byron Moore and George Cooper as wingbacks, which left us vulnerable at times.

Danny Mayor extended his contract today, which is good because last year I feel we didn’t see the best of him, teams were more focused on clipping his ankles every chance they got.

Just my honest opinion. The gargs are not as good as their position indicates.

Fair enough trapdoor. That said when I saw Exeter at the CG you weren’t very good either, certainly inferior to Plymouth who were one of the better sides I saw (which wasn’t that many granted!!) However, over the course of a season you clearly were a decent side and fully expect you to win the play offs.

Oh well please excuse my ignorance, with you having blue in your name I thought you was a Peterborough fan!

In short if it were done on PPG because league 1 is so tight Wycombe moved from 8th to 3rd knocking Peterborough out of the playoffs in the process.

As such their chairman has had a rather embarrassing few weeks throwing his dolly out the pram (you’d be better off looking on the league 1 forum)

Thanks Adam ~~~ I've always enjoyed my visits to Field Mill, but it's a bugger of a journey. I remember us winning there 3-1 once when I think Ellison was doing well for us. I think he's still our record signing.

Are you happy with Ryan Lowe?

He was one of my all-time favourite players at Chester.

His hilarious tantrum when Artell got the managers job here instead of him kick started much needed change and led to promotion with a far better manager. Cheers Lowe.

Dave Artell was also one of my favourite Chester Players. I remember a headed goal he scored in a mid-week victory at Blundell Park. He was knocked out in the process, but carried on when he came round. I was apoplectic when Bobby Williamson released him to be replaced by Paul Butler, who was dire.

Sounds very much like Dave that does. Will never forget his second to last playing appearance for us, playing with a broken foot in the playoff semi final second leg against Southend. A true model professional as a player and an excellent manager too.

I think he still lives here in Upton, Chester. He's also got a good career to fall back on when he inevitably gets sacked. I think he's an accountant or something equally decent.

“Very poor defensively” yet we conceded 4 less than you. :dk:

Give up mate.
Now now, you know fine well that the rule on this board is that a team's qualities (or lack of) are to be judged not on performances over the season but on performance in one match.

Aye he does, passed him many a time when I've been working up that way and I've been stuck in the typical Littleton traffic jam.

He has a degree in forensic biology I believe. He also had a company (don't know if he's still running it) which sorted out tax for footballers too. All in all, a very intelligent man.

Yes. He is very personable. At the beginning of the season we had an Open Day based around a practice session. There was a long queue with about 1,000 people and he made the effort to go down the line saying hello to everyone. Derek Adams would never had done anything like that - he would not even give us a wave.

Lowe set his stall out to be positive and attacking. And while it has not been quite as good as advertised I know we made the most chances, scored a lot, had at least 19 players score and our keeper had the highest number of clean sheets.

It took a long time to tell, and initially Lowe would not refine the one way he wanted to play. But once he did, we played a lot better. in a bizarre way the turning point was the abysmal failure against Exeter. He tweaked some more and after that we went on a good run. he did not sort out how to get the best out of Mayor, until March. He made a tweak in how he set Mayor up, and all of a us sudden I was purring at how balanced we looked. Meaow.

My reservation is that he believes in one way, and unless he mixes it up, we may get found out at league 1. But so far it has been an enjoyable journey.

Looking at todays postponed Copa America games I noticed Australia were meant to be in it. They are the first country to take part in the Oceanic games, the Asian World Cup qualifying, the Copa America AND the Eurovision. Fucking mercenaries.

I know they have been putting out feelers about Wellens ,
