One gets the feeling that this sorry story is finally reaching its inevitable conclusion.

What's the point?
They could have done a much more impressive rebuild of the ground for that figure and still sustained a decent National South team. All they've really achieved is to deny a promotion place to someone with a more sensible playing budget along the way.

The league needs an FFP rule. There is a clear need for it at clubs which are far more likely to drop their draws at the hint of any tin pot benefactor.
The ability to run a club into the ground long term over short term crazy spending is much easier in the non leagues.

FFP won't really stop the spending as such, you'd need a wage cap for that.

FFP would ensure more money does in via share purchase, though, IIRC.

I'm new to this league but just looking at the logistical cost of running a full time club on tiny gates and the lack of potential to sustain the whole thing and it's hard to see how clubs like Fylde, Ebbsfleet, Harrogate, Boreham Wood and Fleetwood for that matter keep it going after their owners run out of money.

They won’t after a decent period of time although annoyingly Fleetwood are doing well. Having said that, saw their crowd today vs Ipswich only 4000. Shite for a supposedly top end L1 team and I bet Ipswich took at least 1/4 of that. Once the owners fuck off, they’re all done. Basically.

Yup. They'd NEVER have got into this league without it. In effect they've bought a place that belongs to a club that runs itself properly. Their last 5 attendances have all been in 3 digits. Sometime soon The Wallet will realise his town's most popular sport involves crooking their little fingers, enjoying a nice cream tea and a scone and looking down their noses at their neighbours. Harrogate is what passes for posh in Yorkshire. :£:£:£

Yeah both appearing after Ebbsfleet.

It seems to be a regular thing for Southend, I've seen them listed on these a fair few times now.

Yep, our owner uses HMRC as a loan system and readily admits it. He won't stop until the FA finally stop the nonsense of having football creditors as priority over the likes of HMRC.
All this on the back of a week where an unknown source has cleared a guesstimate of £10M-£15M off our debt, Ron still didn't want to pay the taxman a moment sooner than he needed to though.

According to report Dave Archer(Fleet General manager), no summons has been received, payment is all up to date.

In fact he went to the high court and was told the case had been dismissed.

Yep, absolutely. And seen the impact that my home town club has had in terms of it becoming Weaver FC and all of the obnoxious actions by certain people at the club and some gob smacking decesions....this summer's ticket price hike of which the forums village idiot from Halifax refers to with out attendances, being the latest.

Unfortunately the majority of Harrogate fans would rather not stretch their brains to the very big question of what happens when the owner, who over the years has expressed his disdain for some supporters, walks away and/or Simon Weaver grows a pair and gets a proper managerial job in grown up world
The club will fold, with circa 500k losses a year, with the club registered as a subsidiary company of daddyweavers house building firm.

I would much rather have my traditional club back at step 2 or 3.

Some clubs at this level have a fully sustainable business model, for example Boreham Wood, the “bete noir” of a number of posters on this site.Despite gates of around 700, they are debt free, and are highly likely to figure in the play-offs. Because they have got it right off the pitch with generated income. The Burton Albion way.

This is a joke right? Must be their owner even threatened to pull his funding due to tinpot crowds.

They don't- see Colne FC, Rushden & Diamonds, Grays Athletic, Histon, and a host of others for more details. :£

Eastleigh seem to be the only club bankrolled up to this level who seem to be doing OK after their benefactor has left.

Interesting link. The owner got a bit pissed off, because the locals were not really interested in his project. BTW ,pitch is premier-league standard, grass, maintained with input from Arsenal ground staff, and used by Arsenal reserve and some academy teams. Turnover 2 yrs ago, 7 figures.

Not really a success though if nobody is interested. It's effectively a ground with a team attached.

You could say the same for Barrow though, town of 60000 in the middle of nowhere with no major local competition and you only get about 1200. Much as I’m not keen on Borehamwood, they have 6 Prem and Champiobship clubs with 20 mins of them.

Our ground doesn't make us any money, what are you on about?
And any way, I'm not suggesting Barrow are a success - I'm saying that Boreham Wood isn't a success. Not sure how our attendances are relevant to that.

Of course it’s a success.Don’t really see what attendance has to do with it. Many hundreds of lower level clubs don’t even cover match official fees with their gate money, but they play their sport just the same, raising funds with community and social activity.Boreham Wood are just particularly good at it.
