Not had a chance to play much, so only 11 games into the season I posted about before, top of the conference now, and still unbeaten, only conceding 6 goals, but only 3 top half teams played. Owain Jones has dropped his form and now has only contributed to an average of 1.27 goals per game (9 scored, 5 assists).

I have had one occasion so far where 3 first team players were absent on international duty, so this could be my downfall over the season should these players get called up consistently.

I started a career with Latics as I always do when I’ve just bought FM.

Season 1
League One: Champions
Carling Cup: Round 1 (Latics 0-1 Bradford)
FA Cup: Round 3 (QPR 3-1 Latics)
JPT: Winner

A great season overall, though I was already pleasantly surprised to see the media prediction as 6th. A good team on paper to begin with, a few of which are easily good enough for the Championship and beyond, so I didn’t need to make too many signings. Very little money to play with, so had to rely on free transfers and premiership loanees.
I signed V. Malinkovic-Savic (Man United), Rolando Aarons (Newcastle), Gael Bigirimana (Newcastle), Jake Forster-Caskey (Reading) & Joshua Onomah (Tottenham) on loan and snapped up Adam Hammill on a free in January time. Hammill turned out to be an exceptional signing, bagging 11 in 17 games. Jonathan Forte top scored with 23 goals, just behind Adam Armstrong.

Season 2
Championship: Champions
Carling Cup: Round 1 (Tranmere p1-1 Latics)
FA Cup: Round 3 (West Ham 3-1 Latics)

An amazing season, though not without a wobble (7 games without a win) around Feb/Mar time. Held off the late challenges of Hull & Blackburn to win the league. Had to snap up a couple of decent loanees to improve the squad.
I signed Adam Armstrong (Coventry), Joao Texeira (Liverpool), Rolando Aarons (Newcastle), Eoghan O’Connell (Celtic), Karl Darlow (Newcastle) & Kelechi Iheanacho (Man City) on loand, with Mathieu Baudry coming in on a free transfer.

Just in pre season for the Premier League – board expect us to make around £75m profit, yet are only allowing me £7m to spend. Got a couple of decent free transfers, though they wanted decent signing on fees (Jores Okore being one) and somehow managed to snap up Andrej Kramaric from Leicester for 850k. Paying him £35k p/wk though…..
Also signed Kenneth Omeruo from Chelsea for a club record £2.5m.

It’s going to be an extremely hard season this. One which I would snap hands off for 17th and a decent cup run.

Just started my first save on 16 and went with Spurs.

The board have only tasked me with a Europa League place finish so I shouldn't have many problems in the short term.

I've just finished the pre season and, as you can see, I decided to through down the gauntlet and really challenge the lads...

7OLxILp.jpg

I've only made one signing and I think it will stay like that until January so these are my two lineups...

Lloris
Trippier Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose
Bender (Sven)
Bentaleb
Lamela Eriksen Chadli
Kane

Vorm
Walker Wimmer Fazio Davies
Dier
Alli
Townsend Mason Son
N'Jie

Won the title in my second season with Sassuolo. Lots of quality players available cheaply in Serie A. Was looking about 3rd/4th but won 12 of my last 14 games and won the title by 10 odd points.

Defrel is a great poacher (starts with them) and bringing in Vlaar and Gourcuff on frees massively helped.

Fucked if I can get a tactic to work with Lincoln on this game.

I abandoned any passing principals in a 4-1-3-2 and decided to smash the ball up field in a 4-1-2-3, which worked for 7 or 8 games and now that's not working either. We don't quite score enough to batter teams and don't concede enough to get battered either, so we're just coming up short in both areas, which is why I've drawn so many games. At the halfway point, lower mid-table, I've actually lost as many games as 2nd placed Tranmere but they've only drawn 1 to my 9 or 10.

Is it a case of needing two different systems you can quickly switch between? Be it just keeping one for a few games and switch for few, switch back. Or if you want to be more clever choose between the two on a game by game basis based on the opposition. Either way it'll keep the AI guessing?

Perhaps, I've just always used one tactic (4-1-3-2) on the games and it's served me well and never been a massive issue. At times, it took maybe a month or two into a season to work properly.

I'm now 2.5 seasons in with Lincoln and it's shown no real signs of working. The rating for 9 out of the 11 positions is a full, green circle so everything seems ok on the face of it.

I'm having similar issues, although more recently I've managed to get some sort of success.

I found that making only slight changes to my team instructions made a big difference. So I went from trying to exploit the wings to playing through the middle where my two best players are, and this seemed to work well.

I think the days of picking one tactic and it working forever are gone. I suppose it makes it more realistic, but I am concerned that the game is becoming too much like a chore. I want a balance between realism and fun. I don't have hours and hours to dedicate to tactical analysis!

That hits the nail on the head for me with the later FM games. It's too heavy and misses the fun. At least there is the lighter game mode now.

Well this is my issue. I've reverted to FM Touch and I'm still finding it more involved than previous full FMs.

Obviously I don't have to worry about press conferences etc which is good. But in terms of tactics and so on, I find myself having to really think through a tactic before every game.

I long for the days where a tactic with 2 defensive midfielders and three strikers would smash every team you face.

Yeah, maybe so. I've never pissed about with more than one tactic because I like to build a squad just on that one.

Will get through this season and see where I'm at.

I've not really played for a while, but am in my third season at Barrow, taken them from relegation certainties to promotion favourites. Currently 21 games in and lost just 1 time, despite this I'm second in the league, behind Tranmere on goal difference as they have lost just 1 game as well, and my next match is Tranmere away. Really think that this result and the home game against them in the penultimate week could be huge factors in who goes up. My main problem is I have 0 budget for January signings, so have to make do with the squad I have, which is regularly missing 2-3 players for international games.

Ladies and gentlemen WE ARE LIVE!!! with a patch to fix this shit game.

Match engine fixes:
Improved defending of full backs who were tucking in inappropriately
Improved behaviour of backline when deciding to cover out of position players
Prevented ball getting stuck in the crossbar
Fixed instances of goalkeepers being stranded out of goal after being called over to be booked
Fixed some examples of dead time after ball is returned from a throw in following an injury
Improved system of players taking a penalty when on a hat-trick
Fixed some instances of poor back passes and goalkeepers lack of reaction to them
Fixed some problems with Specific Man Marking instruction
Refined referee decision making on offside calls
Improved defenders behaviour when reacting to a ball they are favourite to win
Improved goalkeeper decisions to parry ball back into play when they could let the ball go out
Improved goalkeeper decisions on when to come off their line
Improved accuracy of shots on goal
Refined passing decision making to reduce instances of unnecessary direct and rushed passes
Fixed some instances of a goal being awarded when the shot had hit the bar and not gone in

"Prevented ball getting stuck in the crossbar" is my personal favourite fwiw

That accompanied with the last fix on that list, I wonder how many goals they awarded.

I dunno, but I've recently had my keeper catch the ball in front of his near post then walk through the side netting and a goal has been given.

Finished my 3rd season with Barrow, was top of the league for 28 weeks, but finished 2nd on goal difference. Got promoted after beating Wimbledon 3-0 in the playoffs, then finished the season by winning the FA Trophy beating Exeter 4-0. Signing of the season must be Owain Jones, a free agent after being released by Swansea, who was the league's top scorer and Vanarama National player of the season, and FA Trophy top scorer, scoring a hat-trick in the final. Will be happy just to avoid relegation from League 2 next season, but my squad have told me they think they are better than that and can get mid table.

Ok I tried playing it on my iPad (FM Touch, not Handheld which I know is a poor imitation). It's okay and it's nice to have the match engine on an iPad, but I really miss the other little controls they've stripped away from the full version - press conferences, pitchside teamtalks, match preparation training etc. These are little things you can use to gain an advantage with a rubbish team, but without them you're just completely beholden to your shit players. So it's only really worth playing as a top level team (or being a very patient master tactician, which I am demonstrably NOT).

As you have probably inferred by now, sacked.

I've been playing touch on this year's version, mainly because I don't get a huge amount of time to play so the streamlined version appealed to me.

But I do have to admit that the lack of control is infuriating at times. Morale seems just as important a factor in touch as in the main game, which seems a bit unfair considering in the full version there is lots you can do to improve morale, whereas in touch there's very little you can do. At least once a season I'll go on a bit of a losing run which affects morale, and there's sod all I can do to halt the rot.

That's the sole reason I haven't won more trophies. The game doesn't want me to win.

Yeah, exactly. It's a bit of a shabby compromise, really. Just as difficult as the full version, but you're given fewer tools to manage with.

I'm convinced it's a conspiracy to prevent me from becoming the greatest manager of all time.

I have the handheld one. I havent played too many games yet, just trying to get a feel for the game as I havent had it in so long.

So far I am QPR (naturally) and won 2 from 2. Cant work out if I should cash in on Austin or sell up, as he doesnt want to be here. Grego-Cox is getting constant bids from Spurs, so I am guessing he is good (not great in real life).

Any gems on a free/cheap?

finally got this after waiting for christmas to get out of the way and downloading face pics, logo packs etc which seemed to take an age!

started a test game with everton and within 7 days i had stones and barkley unhappy that i had rejected offers from city and chelsea respectively. and randomly Oviedo is a really popular player with other prem teams

trying to sign people but evertons wage budget is abysmal. Kevin Prince Boateng would only have costed me £1m but wage demands were silly
