No updates in over a month so maybe it's not just me whose found this version a struggle to enjoy. I just can't even work up the energy to get involved in a new game. I've been tempted to reload 14 for the last few weeks.

I'm still using 14. I had a play on the demo's of 15 & 16 but just felt that overall 14 was a more complete experience. I generally play in obscure leagues so not having the most up to date squads is irrelevant to me.

I'm the same.

It's that bad, that I'm getting more enjoyment in a game where everything's set-up for me in terms of finance/facilities (Man Utd in this case). It's the worst FM for quite a few years IMO, particularly for lower league games, which I usually do.

This years version is the first where I've moved to classic rather than the full version. I was dubious at first but glad I did it now. Just as enjoyable as ever without taking too much of my time.

Okay, I'm back to plug my latest attempt at writing something Football Manager related. This time I've gone fucking insane for a fantasy setting in a nation that I have created with new competitions & teams. Below is an extract from the 'about' page:

The Republic of Kingstopia is a fantasy scenario played out using the video game Football Manager in which I have created a new nation based in the Pacific Ocean that has just established competitive football & will be documenting it’s growth in a story format.

I'll be updating every so often on here & also for those of you who may be signed up to Tifo, the Football Manager social media site, my group link can be found here: https://tifo.site/+Kingstopia/posts

That's it. I'm done. There's nothing left to achieve in life. My 36-year building project has finally resulted in us winning the biggest prize of all.

Dunno, you could always make them the most successful European side ever.

Well, the most unprecedented season I've ever had....

Started the season with the expectation of CL qualification through the league, which I thought shouldn't be a problem as we easily managed 4th in the previous season, and we improved the squad, CL we were expected first KO round, FA Cup was expected to reach 6th round, League Cup the board didn't give a shit, and the super cup was be competitive.

Well...

Good start!

Chelsea v Crewe_ Overview Overview.png

Even better! Especially when I played reserves all the way though except the final...

English Premier Division_ Overview Stages.png

This was the biggest shock, we walked the league in the end without an issue, the loss came to Swansea...

Crewe v Q.P.R._ Overview Overview.png

Again, reserves all of the way to the final... Final was easy, QPR were never going to be a threat.

BOOOOOM! My best achievement to date on FM goes to this career now. I shall continue trying to dominate following this though, this man was the main reason we won so much I think, turns out changing him from a CF to an AF made a massive difference (I also changed tactics from long ball, to keep ball)...

Nicolas Audren_ Overview Attributes-2.png

He goes down as the best player I think I've ever managed, I've also never had a player valued at £50million before either!!!

Finally, I have a bonus, one of the best regen names I've ever encountered...

Shame he's shit and has no potential.

Wonderful fact from this season.... I knocked Man United out of the League Cup in the Quarter Finals on penalties after a 1-1 draw, knocked them out of the FA Cup 4th round 3-2, knocked them out of the Champions League Quarter Finals 3-0 on aggregate (2-0 at Gradi Park, 1-0 at OT), and they finished 2nd to us in the league.

Not to forget my escapades with Chelsea, not quite as fun, but fun nonetheless, beating them in the LC final, knocked them out of the CL Semis 5-3 on aggregate (2-2 Zola Stadium, 3-1 Gradi Park).

There is literally no way for me to beat this season next season now... Ah well, time to truly establish Crewe as the dominant force in Europe.

Depends, tends to take me about 4-5 days. But then I do other stuff whilst playing it, and don't give it my full attention.

Still can't get into this game. I've been put off doing my usual lower league games by my two efforts at a Lincoln save so I've ended up doing what I don't like doing and doing a couple of PL saves.

Might give it once last crack with a lower league career save but I'm not holding out much hope.

How long does it usually take to complete a FM season?
In the earlier FM days when it wasn't quite as detailed, I think I did one in a day, although that was through to early morning.

I haven't played this for a long time so I decided to jump back in with a Wolfsburg save.

I'm expected to qualify for the Champions League and reach the semi-final of the cup. They don't expect me to get past the group stages in Europe this season. I was given £23m and I spent it on two central midfielders because we didn't really have any playmakers in that area - Lucas Lima and Roberto Soriano.

First team...

Started a new save a few weeks ago as an unemployed ex professional footballer.

Took over Bury at the end of the 2015/16 season after they had been relegated from League 1 and thus sacked their manager. I took over and immediately got rid of half the squad who wanted to leave. We were in dire straights financially too so I big shake up was needed. Thanks to all the player sales I managed to get a decent amount of money in the bank to bring players in.

This was my ins and outs. The four key players to this Bury squad is the 4 loanees that I managed to get for 2 seasons. Angelino and Nwakalli at full back with Caceres at attacking midfield were all on loan from our senior affiliate Man City. Up front we had our main goalscorer Rushian Hepburn-Murphy who banged in 40 goals in 68 games in his time with Bury.

After a dodgy start we built slowly and managed to finish strongly in 2nd place. League 1 was next and once again there was a big overhaul in the squad due to lots of average players on decent contracts having deals expiring - I felt I could do better. I also still had a decent amount of budget left over from the player sales after we were relegated.

These were my ins and outs for my second season. Once again the four loanees were key to the season. And once again after a dodgy start we quickly got some consistency and managed to end the season incredibly strongly and we ended up becoming Champions.

However my contract was expiring at the end of this season and the board seemed to want to refuse to offer me a new deal, despite how good I was doing. They finally offered me a deal in mid June but by that point I had already made my mind up that I was going to leave and move on. I joined Hull City in the Championship on a 1 year deal. They were having serious financial problems but had a really decent squad.

These are my ins and outs for the season. I ended the season fed up with my board who kept selling players from underneath me. Nathan Thompson was sold completely behind my back despite him being my only real defensive cover after they also forced me to sell Tomas Kalas for much less than I tried to get for him. To make matters even worse though; because of the club being in huge debt they had set the percentage of the transfer fee's received that went to my playing budget to 10%. So Nathan Thompson was sold for £1m and I has to try and replace him for £100k.

We finished 5th after it came down to the final day with 4 teams fighting for 2nd spot. At half time we were in 2nd place but by full time the other teams won their games and we finished 5th. In the play offs we won the first home leg 2-1 but ended up losing the away leg 5-1 after my left back Haidara got a straight red after 10 minutes. At the end of the season I resigned and left.

I was unemployed for about 4-5 months until I applied for the Southampton job. They are sitting in the relegation zone in 18th place and my job is to simply keep them up.

Football Manager is such a rollercoaster. From a league 2 manager to a premier league manager in seasons - I love it. I recommend to anyone who can't decide on a team to manage to try an unemployed career, it is well fun.

Started with AFC Wimbledon. Going to be a career game, so I'll probably end up moving Clubs every 3 years or so when I've got them out of L1.

Mid-table in January, which is where the Board want me. Terrible squad, but I've added 5 loan players to it to give me a bit of quality. £10k under budget and I'll just save that until the summer where just about every player is out of contract and at the minute both my LB's have broke their legs and 4 of my 5 strikers are out injured, so happy days.

Will get a better gauge of how I'm going to do next season when I can re-build the squad.

I'm back on 14 for now. It's 2025 and after winning the world Cup with Spain I was struggling to find an interesting job so I slipped down to League One to take over Aston Villa who have been down here for 3 seasons now.

Their finances are in an awful condition and we've not really got anyone we can sell. I limped to 14th place after taking over in January. During the new season they cut my wage budget to 35k so I released loads of players and staff to trim everything back.

Currently in October and after a slow start switching to 4-2-3-1 seemed to help and I'm in the top 10 which is the expectation. Sadly I've lost my last two games against Birmingham and Scunthorpe 4-1 so I'm hoping this isnt the start of another slide down the table. Hard to see how it will progress with fuck all funds but I will try to stick at it as obviously the potential is there.

Hopefully this isn't a realistic look into the future for Villa Jase as it seems it can get worse!

 it always turns out for us like that on FM after a while... I'm hoping we don't end up in that situation, but in my time following football, nothing would surprise me.
