France are a couple of decent full-backs and a centre-back (Varane) away from being a very good side.

What a man is Payet. Beautiful goal such as a good performance.

I like this French team and think they match well and can do even better. Also having the support of the home stans is always a great incentive. For the other side Romania exceeded my expectatives.

Enjoyable opening game and Romania - credit to them - made it a contest and the French had to work, piece of magic though from Payet to win it. Good to see Martial get minutes as well. Coman looked bright. More of the same please!

Decent opening game, good win for France and deserved over the 90 minutes, takes a bit of pressure of them now going into the next group games. What a goal from Dimitri Payet that is, early goal of tournament contender, France didn't impress me all that much to be honest though. Had them down as my favorites to win it but not so sure now, credit to Romania they were better than I expected.

I hope it wasn't just a case of "home court advantage" LOL. But yeah, Payet was spectacular with that late strike.

Opinions obviously differ, I thought Payet ran the show - set up the 1st goal and won the game with that strike right at the end. If they didn't have Payet, I don't think they would've won that. Kante worked tirelessly but didn't think his performance was
overly special.
He did, but he got very lucky as in reality the keeper could've dealt with it a lot better. Wasn't a great cross. Obviously his goal was phenomenal though, and I still think he was MOTM.

Kanté btw: Most passes made. Most touches of ball. Highest pass completion %. Most tackles made. Most interceptions. Most distance covered.

According to MisterMagic there's loads of Kantes in Ligue 1.

Though I may have misread that.

I didn't mean that to sound as negative, it was a great performance but I thought it was just a typical Kante performance that we've become accustomed to.
But this is the thing. The solid defensive midfielder, who plays at a high level for 90 minutes, goes unnoticed whereas the flashy forward, who didn't really do all that much, gets all the credit. If Payet puts that winner over the bar, are we talking about his performance with such praise? I don't think we are.

Maybe Payet was the best player on the pitch, but I don't think its fair on Kante to say Payet was the best by a long distance. You can't downplay how good Kante was because he does it all the time. By that logic, it was a typical performance from Payet, no? Because haven't we become accustomed to him scoring screamers and getting assists?

Bloody hell, all I'm saying is I thought Payet was clearly Man of the Match, and I said that throughout the game. Kante's work didn't go 'unnoticed', I said he played very well, just not to the standard of Payet who essentially won that game for France.

I genuinely don't think it matters who was given MOTM, meaningless argument.

Can't we? Please do. Shite he was.
No, sorry, I can't. He was brilliant and in Paris no less. Wonder if any teams in that area would be interested in his services?
