To make sure the germans are dead you have to shoot them twice

That was some finish to the game, and a stunning hit from Kroos. Poor, sweet Sweden.

Embarrassing 2nd half from Sweden. Blew their energy early, totally threw the game away. Didn't even try for a winner after Germany went a man down, made some stupid decisions at both ends of the pitch. Pathetic performance, totally let Germany off the hook for what was a piss poor performance. They'll get picked off by a better team in the knockouts, totally flawed approach.

Dominated that second half, had plenty of chances to put the game to bed. Do we ignore them to create another story or?

If either side could finish it would have been 4-4, with Sweden up by a couple at HT. The only story being touted is yours.

Nevertheless, I don't think the Germans are going to fill anybody with too much fear in the knockout stages, which I now expect them to get too.

All the Sweden striker had to do was keep ball in corner instead of shooting and they win and the defender was just had bad diving in when he should stay on his and keep cool. They have just shot themselves massively in the foot there Sweden.

Well, I'd like look like a fool to call someone's opinion wrong, but...

Not worth arguing the other points as I've stated my views in the other threads.

I'll just say to give Draxler more of a watch, he was the player of the tournament at the Confederations Cup last year, has performed well wherever he's been and in whatever competitio. He's still only 24 too. Trust me, he's good. You don't start for a Germany team with this talent, that left out Leroy Sane no less, without being good.

Oh, and Mitrovic is an enigma. I mean, on his day Duncan Ferguson was a world beater. Wouldn't call either great because their great performance were so fleeting.
I like a good football debate, I don’t care if anyone agrees with my opinion or not, I just like discussing football and certain players. You can laugh at my opinion, although I’m not sure why you would, because you’re also offering up opinions of your own.

Well yeah he had to be playing well in some games, I’m just saying I’ve seen him in the French league, cup, Champions League, friendlies, Euros etc and I’ve not seen him play well. I never saw the Confederations Cup because the games always feel like friendlies.

Mitrovic is inconsistent, I agree with that. I’m just saying that when he’s like that, he’s a great striker. Not world class, never said that, just great to have.

So we agree they got what they deserved then, decent. Wut.

So naive from Sweden that second half.

There's so much to this game of football and I've felt some painful defeats but this is pretty much the worst. I'm genuinely struggling to think of any defeat more painful than this.

First of all, because I'm a bitter c*nt and we lost I want to mention the ref. He was very, very bad. Which, in part, is because players from Bayern and Real Madrid play the ref better than players form Tolouse and Al Ain (it's completely different ways of playing football). But the penalty shout was genuine stonewall (and you have to assume the VAR told him the same), he took aaaaaages (probably VAR shouting in his ear) to very obviously send off Boateng for what should have been his third yellow and then when we're three against one on the counter in the 94th to wrap it up, he finds a free kick far from the ball that was just baffling.

That was painful. I don't know if I blame the ref especially often, I like to think I don't, but he played his part today. In the 94th I screamed right out loud that he's fucking bought. Which is why I watch these games alone.

Truth is though, this team is playing out of their skins. Our starting eleven today was FC Copenhagen, Krasnodar, Al Ain, Tolouse etc. That's the quality of this side and they were within one moment of brilliance from a player worth more and earning more than this entire Sweden team combined.

The equalizer came too early, we absolutely (despite the difference in quality) should have gone for it when they went down to ten men (and kept one, 1, natural defender on the pitch). But at the end of the day, these eleven players can't beat those eleven german players unless the latter completely, and utterly fuck up. And they almost did. Almost.

It hurts a lot. We're not out, we need to beat Mexico by two clear goals though. Chances are we do. But fucking hell. This hurts.

No one think the goalkeeper could have done better for the goal? Seemed a bit flat footed, the strike didn't look unstoppable.

I thought that. Probably came as a surprise, plus think it came through a few bodies on it’s way. He really thumped it though

Thought Germany were good, especially in the 2nd half. Probably had about ten clear opportunities. Defensively, though, they've got real problems and can be got at by sides who can hit them on the break at pace (like England).

This match was no good for my heart. We were out for quite some time.

My "yellings" through the match:
32 min : "Piss off, Toni Kroos you useless c***"
48 min: 1-1 Reus. "No surrender"
88 min: Goalpost shot of Julian Brandt (same he did in the last minutes of the Mexico match) : " Jesus, loves us no more"

95 min: "Toni Kroos, Football God"

Again many faults (Gündogan again useless when he was brought in. Maybe a hopeless one for Germany?), Defense shaky again (especially after the Rüdiger fault)
But this win could have brought some spirit back. Maybe, we'll see.

We are not through yet but at least we have it in our own hands and don't have to rely solely on Mexico. Could be interesting if we win against South Korea (not guaranteed, they are a proud team and don't want to go with 3 losses) and Sweden wins against Mexico. Then 3 teams with 6 points.

Anyway I am happy for the moment :bdick:

Oh yes, it will be role reversal this time.. Özil pulling a caravan behind Henderson as he squares for Kane to slam it past Neuer after catching Germany on the break late on to secure the win.

Mexico and Germany were clearly the strongest teams in the group so for Sweden to still be in with a shout is about where you’d expect them to be. They played well first half and looked solid at the back and a threat on the break. Great save by Neuer by the way to stop them going in 2-0. Crucial.

The way Germany started the 2nd half clearly rattled them and it was all hands to the pump. They looked knackered and a bit mentally shot after Germany scored, just retreated and retreated and although I thought they’d hold out, that can happen at the end if you play like that. On balance you’d say the Germans deserved it. Disappointing the Swedes didn’t have a go after the red.

Some of the Swedish totty in the crowd though was one of the highlights of the tournament. Fucking hell.

Unfortunately I think Serbia are as good as out after Mitro was ROBBED of a penalty. Apparently 2 people literally climbing him isn't worthy of a VAR review.

Also, football never really left home as such. We kinda just let the rest of the world borrow some of it (ok, most of it) for 52 years.

Top analysis from the boys. But for a shocking disallowed goal decision England had came back from 2 goals down and were on course to win the game (and probably the whole World Cup). Good times.
