Well we know we will face one of Wolves kids, Mansfield, Bolton or Doncaster at home.

Mansfield at home for us then, hard to tell what’s a good draw or not as it depends on what level of sides they field and us!

Oxford at home which is hopefully a good chance of us going out

We beat Blackpool 3-1 to qualify for the next round. We were massively benefited by the fact we don't have a game on Saturday and could play our first team. Don't really care about the result but it's great for a teams that's been low on confidence until recently

All the draws at this stage are not good. Because it means you’re still in.
I hope you win.

Though if we’ve still got dempster in charge you will anyway!

I notice the EFL have now started hiding replies to their posts that criticise their wonderful competition on Twitter. Shitehawks, I suppose censorship was the only route they could take next to keep justifying ramming this down our throats every year.

Drew 2-2 with Mansfield. Won 4-2 on pens.

Both their goals against the run of play.

£50k we've made from this so far. People will have their views in regards to the U21 teams and boycotting etc... but we've made just shy of £200k from this and the FA Cup with Manchester City to come in January which is another big wedge.

The treble is still alive.

ATTENDANCE: 1,164 (104 away)

I suppose they were all there to get a glimpse of Robbie Williams who was at the game.

Mansfield were poor and we should really of buried them but almost the opposite to the league game where they nicked a lucky last minute equaliser.

Not sure how many changes or how far that was off their first team that was but we made 7 changes and was pleasing to put in that performance and add more cash.

Dempster must go after being out tacticed by Robbie Williams who did our team talk!

Have to say Mansfield’s penalties were absolutely terrible! The two they did score, one bounced down off the bar and the other Brown got a good hand too but Mellis has to be the worst penalty I have ever seen! Literally Brown walked out to smother it it was that weak!

Good end to probably the craziest seven days in Port Vale’s recent history!

Salford away in the next round. Its winnable, but a home draw would have been nice.

So apparently Stevenage posted that they have us away in the next round, an hour before the draw was apparently done ‘live’ on Sky sports.

The whole competition as an absolute farce

Weird as I watched the draw and apologised to Howey for having to wait due to the Silva sacking!

I'm sure that was Mal Benning's penalty?

Mellis scored his penalty.

Probably was then yeah! No idea what he was thinking with that one! Even if Brown has started to go the other way he probably had time to re adjust to that one! The other save was pretty special to be fair.

Brown has a fantastic penalty record for us.

He does to be fair, similar to Goodlad. Saved a Mansfield one last season, plus off the top of my head at Newport this season, Morecambe and MK also last season.

Really sorry but it looks like we might have a decent crowd for our next game v Ipswich. We usually only open one stand but Ipswich have sold their initial allocation of 300. There seems to be interest at home too so it may be around 2000.
I still wont go though.

Are we still in this sham of a competition? Hope our reserves throw the game.

Getting silly now. We keep playing our kids against sides we have no right to beat, Ipswich being the latest. And yet we are in the quarters.

The good news is that Ipswich fans were taking this quite seriously and may have taken tens of thousands had they got to Wembley, and we wont.

We’ve got an away tie at Salford... only a few miles away from Saturday and a huge huge come down in front of probably 100 or 200 Vale fans...

We’ve played every three days since December 21st and have made about three changes over all those games and after chasing Silva and Aguero around will likely need to make 9-10 changes I reckon... not got a free mid week next week either so need freshness for the league even if sadly we have to sacrifice this one.

If we get to Wembley we’d probably take about 5,000 after so many recent play off visits. Still, we’ll take the £40k prize money for getting through on Saturday.

Also, funny that Lee Martin scoring the winner has wound up so many Ipswich fans on Twitter!

I was confused by the Saturday comment because I thought you were referring to the FA cup then realised you played an EFL Trophy game on a Saturday. I bet it’s been a while since that happened.

20 (or even 10) years ago a home tie against Ipswich Town would have been an extremely tasty FAC home tie on R3 day. How the mighty have fallen!?

Before anyone tries to belittle what, in any trophy, would be a decent win, even in a tinpot trophy. In the last two rounds we have managed to despatch the teams currently 4th and 5th in League One packing - and, in doing so, netted £60,000 extra and unbudgeted prize money "bunce" (to go on top of the £30k already in the nett for going unbeaten through the group stage). And it's not as if Ipswich were not taking the game seriously - while we made 10 changes from the side who won at Nailsworth on NYD they left their tractors back in Suffolk and flew their whole first team squad down the day before to get ready!!

I do still agree that it still is a bit of a tinpot distraction - particularly since the EFL kow-towed to the powers that be and allowed the PL kids in - but do have to grudgingly accept that, as you nudge nearer towards the "sharp end" the competition does begin to get marginally more tolerable - especially in financial terms!
