Richie Bennett has left Vale and signed for Stockport on a 2 year deal... very odd that one as Pope could still face a ban and Cullen isn’t always fit!
Absolutely weird and bizarre. Now i realise he wasn't everyones' cup of tea but he has played his part on a number of occasions.
Cullen has a body made of glass and Pope is Pope, massive gamble and Archer couldn't get into the Stockport team !
Askey has obviously some master plan because Bennett is not as bad as all the Pope lovers make out

Got a few as well so maybe that was considered in terms of the potential for losing revenue in the coming weeks?

Aye, 50 years from now some of our supporters will still be calling to wheel out Pope in a glass jar. One day maybe they’ll realise a spot in the Vale team is not a lifetime achievement award and has to be earned on what they are doing now. Doubt it though.

Bennett was an ok player for us, it is true he went through a spell where it wasn’t happening for him but when he started we have got some of our best results this season so must have done something right.

For some unknown reason according to our website we sent a young lad out on loan to Hungerford yesterday ‘for the rest of the season’. That’s going to be quite a long loan...

We've signed a goalkeeper called Dino Visser until the end of the season. He's a Saffer who was Exeter for the first half of the season. Apparently, our third choice keeper is injured and we may lose Will Jaaskelainen to Finland duty for a game so he'll come on to the bench then.

He’s very unlikely to play for us but he saved all 3 Oxford penalties in a shootout for Exeter earlier in the season.

I would say he probably won’t.

We've been linked with a move for Theo Archibald from Macclesfield. Is he one of those who asked for their contracts to be cancelled?

No they all left in January but basically any player who has a transfer lined up can cancel their contract at any time.

I haven't seen us play since early in the season but back then Theo was a decent winger and chipped in with a few goals. His development here has probably been stunted by our off-field situation and rarely being played in his best position under any of our various different managers. Wouldn't begrudge him making a move away once the season restarts.

I am hearing a rumour that Graham Carey might be on his way to Salford. Find it odd that there any rumours at the moment, and he would probably have unreasonable expectations.

Colchester announced earlier in the week that Frank Nouble, Ryan Jackson, Brandon Comley & Luke Prosser were all being released regardless of what happens due to finances.

All 4 could do jobs down here, but the question is - Who's going to have any money to sign anyone up?

If it’s true that there’s not going to be any matches til next year, I doubt any lower league club would retain any players - regardless of whether they have a contract or not.

It’s all about survival now.

Unless they have a clause if under contract they would have to but would assume they’d stay on furlough as long as possible and likely most wouldn’t top up the wages to 100% like we currently are doing for example.

Killer for a lot of clubs isn’t just fans either, hospitality which we have with weddings and functions etc will lose clubs even more, certainly then bigger clubs in the league with that kind of facility like Vale and assume the likes of Plymouth and Bradford offer would be a killer.

Prosser is someone who seems to do well against Crawley and Nouble is a handful but as, imho, our right back position is pretty weak (except for our Brum loanee) I wouldn't object if Jackson turned up here.

I know we normally couldn't afford him but times might be changing and he is a South London lad.

Yeah, they're all on 4k+ I'd read? Admittedly on Reddit. The clubs who were being sensibly run are definitely in a much better place than so many clubs in the division. Swindon, Northampton, Colchester, Mansfield, Cheltenham, Scunny, Macc...all up shit creek I reckon. It's gonna be a buyer's market once this is over and if wage caps are introduced it's going to play into the hands of the clubs that were living sustainably and haven't had to release L1 quality players from 3-5k pw contracts.

Confirmed we’ve let all our loan players go back and released one who was on a short term deal since Jan.

sounds like Chris Taylor? We played him in a county cup match back in October - to help him get his fitness up - and that ended up stopping you playing him before the transfer window....

Dylan Motley-Henry, a former youth player we released years ago then signed out of no where at the very end of January, Taylor’s inevitable release just weeks away though.

We've gone down the opposite route and extended Nottingham's loan until whenever the season finishes, also working on something for Chuma Anene. We should come out of this pretty strong, the main downside will be we probably won't be able to command the fees we would have liked for the kids of Ng, Wintle, Kirk ect. Alot of teams will be relying on youth development after this and that's where we have the advantage and a head start as such.

Sounds like a gamble from Crewe. Everyone else is going opposite direction, if we play games this could work well. But personally I doubt it.

It's an easily calculated gamble. "Extended till the completion of the season". Be a matter of weeks if not days till we know if we play again this season. If we do play again (lol), he's vital to us. If not, he goes back.

Of much more concern is, as crewelad says, the amount of youngsters at the club. We basically have 2/3 of a squad that we cannot cull + an academy in take we need to offer contracts to before vultures strike.

No point worrying about us, we were most likely going to the wall anyway, so not much has changed!

In a really weird way this could end up being some sort of saving grace if we end up safe of relegation in that at least we're still an FL club and may still be of some sort of attraction to any potential buyer.

Straws being well and truly clutched.

I hope I am wrong, but unless there is money from the leagues, I assume that you, Southend and probably several other clubs simply won’t be solvent when the league eventually starts. Someone is going to have bail out quite a few clubs, and I just cannot see who it will be.

There’s talk of a handout from the PL if they manage to play out their fixtures in Australia.

I saw that too. Not sure a) the PL will play the games b) I don’t trust the PL c) will it be enough by the time it trickles down - the real risk is the championship not us, d) I don’t trust the PL.
