Mexico's task is simple. A win/draw sees them qualify top. Anything less than a 2 goal defeat still sees them through. You'd back them to get the job done here.

As for Sweden, after they let the result slip against Germany, can they regroup and get something from this one to give them a chance of qualifying? Or have they blown their opportunity?

A win and we're through, apparently.

I reckon we'll do it. Then hopefully Brazil finish second and we get Switzerland and then ... and then ...

Fucking Germans.

Sweden creating 2 great chances already not even 5 mins in.
Edit, they keep coming. How the hell are Sweden not ahead in this game. Criminal finishing.

We started bright but it shows that Mexico's individual quality is way, way ahead of ours.

There was a decent penalty shout regarding a handball that the ref looked at that was very very close, but personally I lean towards the ref making the right call not giving it. The only thing convincing was Hernandez looking like he knew it'd be a pen.

One goal. One one one goal. Come on for fuck's sake it's not like we're here every four years

We've been the better by a large margin so far.
Mexico have been playing out of their skin so far in the tournament, much like we did back in '94.

We should be a couple of goals up, being denied a stonewall penalty and a superb save on Bergs chance after the corner.

Really wanting Mexico to win this group, I've had a soft spot for them since the '14 WC.

Must say, thought that was a penalty though.

Just doing some calculations and if Sweden & Germany both win 1-1 here it will finish:

Mexico 6 -- GD = 1 -- GF = 3 -- GA = 2
Germany 6 -- GD = 1 -- GF = 3 -- GA = 2
Sweden 6 -- GD = 1 -- GF = 3 -- GA = 2

Can you imagine missing out on yellow cards? They all beat each other so its not fair to have a winner on H2H

When was the last time this happened?

Or worse, drawling lots?! Lots is bad enough for 1st or 2nd, but to make it through or not?!

Translation: Green means we qualify, red means we don't. Upper axis is Sweden-Mexico, right hand is Germany-South Korea.

Yer welcome.

Not sure there was much contact, but he definitely didn’t get the ball. Quality penalty

FC Copenhagen; Celtic, Krasnodar, Man United, Werder Bremen; Krasnodar, Hull, Hamburg, Leipzig; Tolouse, Al Ain.

That's the starting eleven we've used this group stage (bar Pontus Jansson, Leeds, in the first match). The fact that we knocked out the Netherlands was beyond expectations. Knocking out Italy unreal.

Winning this group? Everything. I still remember when we drew it. So unlikely to even finish second And if we somehow did, Brazil would be waiting.

Yet here we are, with a 3-0 behind us against Mexico and there's just nothing to describe it anymore. We had no right, no right whatsoever. This 4-4-2 is very reminiscent of Atlético and Leicester, that four central midfielders kind of defense that is primed for overachievement. But this isn't overachievement, this is an entire squad worth less (and earning less) than Toni Kroos who's going home. And we're not. I pray for Brazil to top their group but fuck me I wouldn't bet against us. There's seemingly nothing beyond this group of misfits and generally untalented players.

I'm from a small town called Gävle, and we're shit at football but very, very good at hockey. And one of the 13 championships we've got is defined by a quote: "Motivation beats class".

Well would you fucking believe it.

Go Brazil tonight. Love you guys. Just win. Give us Switzerland.

This is everything but one more thing:

Could; could; could.

We could have put 70 past your goalie when you only started with 3 players
Yeah, and we could have scored a few more (Brandt, Gomez etc) but we haven't like your team. That's the problem.

What I mean is, Sweden is great for defence but they lack it normally in attack (and they can't rely on Mexico to make such stupid passes like Rüdiger and Kroos in the 1st half that gave you chances).
Fuck you very much.

Fantastic achievement for the Swedes, topping a really tough group should give them a better chance to progress in the last 16. Credit to Mexico as well though, to both go through ahead of the Germans is sublime.

They aren't North American - and you call yourself a journalist (not that they NEVER make stuff up ;) ). As you can see they are my adopted team so hope they go all the way! Ariba riba!!

They are federationally North American, and we're talking football, rather than geographics.

Which is a load of bollocks, same with Israel and Turkey being in European qualification.

Hey, Bilo, congrats for advancing. I was so fucking sure you would quote my post when I heard during the match that Sweden scored more than one. ;).

If you read my other posts I was always sceptic about the german team and never was unrespectful against Sweden (only that I thought they would only score one and could win 1-0).

tbh I am not even disappointed that we are out now because we're shit and it wouldn't end well with this team in the knockouts. So better we don't have to play them. Good luck for Sweden in the knockouts though.

No. I don't have anything against them (and I am not even insulted by Bilo's "fuck you" post) and I wrote before the Sweden match that I am the first to congratulate them when they win (against us, which they haven't then but now). I love my country and our national team but I am also a sportsman and can handle losses and have no problem to accept it.

And you are comforted by the fact that you lot will probably win the Euro's and next World Cup eh!
