Decided they were worthy of a thread of their own.

First legs: Thursday, June 18
Colchester United v Exeter City - 5.15pm
Northampton Town v Cheltenham Town - 7.45pm

Second legs: Monday, June 22
Exeter City v Colchester United - 5.15pm
Cheltenham Town v Northampton Town - 8.00pm

Final: Monday, June 29
Winner semi-final A vs Winner semi-final B - 7.30pm, Wembley Stadium

Despite beating the Cobblers at home the week before lockdown, and drawing away during our worst spell of the season, I can see them shithousing their way past us.

I think they'll beat Exeter in the final as well.

No offence - but can you all just let Exeter go up so their annoying fan isn't on this L2 board next season when we are officially here....

That wouldn't also have something to do with the 660 mile round trip that you'd avoid as a result now would it? :bg:

Saying that... Colchester is a 650 miles round trip for you boys!

For selfish reasons alone, I'd like to see Exeter go up. I also think they'd be more of a threat next season than the other 3.

Losing Exeter and Plymouth in the same season would be fantastic for the die hard away following.

We had Torquay, Yeovil and Dover this year - so that's not a reason... Devon Lad is just plain annoying

Why the hell is the final at Wembley? Would have thought somewhere like Ashton Gate would be better.

Yep it’s stupid holding it at Wembley. Not exactly going to pay back the build costs with those gate receipts!

Thanks for that sentiment, but as my mum says, you can go off some people.

You better hope you are never in the same division as Rotherham then, if you think he is annoying.
We played Rotherham away in the FA Cup in the 1990's when they were still at their old ground - not a very welcoming bunch....

To be fair to Rotherham they only have one troll, but he is in a league of his own.

Hope it’s Exeter, just feel like they have been pretty consistently decent during recent seasons overall and it’s way to far for me to ever travel to watch Mansfield nowadays.

although a different date, obviously Wembley was already booked, and to be fair, this might be the only opportunity for some of these players to play any game at Wembley so for that reason alone I think it is a good thing

What will happen regarding colchester as they released a few players about a month ago will any of them be allowed play in the play offs? Think nouble and prosser were 2 of them.

When retained lists are released, surely the contract is still valid until it's term is up. As we know most contracts are running until 30th June, so presumably those released players are still contracted to play.

I’m backing Cheltenham for the playoffs. They are a decent likeable club and seem to play decent football. Plus Varney plays for them, he was brilliant back in the day for us.

He's been immense for us as well.

I just can't get confident for the playoffs. I can't put my finger on why though.

I can only assume that those bunch of useless twats in Preston have a contract with Wembley stating all Play Offs Finals have to be played there and if they aren`t the EFL are in breach of it. Of course the EFL don`t give an airbourne because they get the TV money which is the only thing they care about. Meanwhile 20 people lost their jobs at Prenton Park yesterday. People who amongst others have spent the last 3 months making up and delivering food parcels to pensioners etc. I hope Rick Parry is enjoying counting his money the morning

I've not kept too up-to-date with those four clubs but Exeter and Cheltenham seemed to be the most consistent through the season?

I'm not too surprised Cheltenham have made their way up there, I said after we played them at the end of last season that Duff had something to work with and you could see what he was trying to do.

Northampton would be better for us location wise, it wouldn't be ideal to have Plymouth, Swindon and Exeter/Cheltenham up, on top of losing fairly straight forward journey's like Coventry and Rotherham.

We are very much the odd one out in terms of footballing approach. Get ready for an absolute overload of long balls up to Vadaine Oliver. That being said we do have the ability to bully other teams so hoping thats what happens. Having Alan McCormack fit for these 3 is going to be huge.

I didnt realise the final was still going to be at Wembley though, that is going to look horrendous on TV without anyone there, whats the point?!

They weren't released, just told that they wouldn't be getting new deals and that they wouldn't have to play/risk injury if they didn't want to. There's only Brandon Comley who won't be playing and we're well covered there with Pell, Stevenson and Lapslie all probably ahead of him. It appears Theo Robinson's loan from Southend is to be extended too so he'll be available as well.

How excited is everyone for these games? Given the current circumstances these games feel like there being played in space, there's no real connection or momentum for these play-offs, for me anyway.

Stop polluting this thread with bitter whining about the EFL.

Those 20 people lost their jobs mainly because your team was too shit to avoid in effect being bottom of league 1. (Bolton and Southend were basket cases). You even had the luxury of playing Bolton's youth team in August (5-0 win) before they improved and still had by far the worst goal difference in the bottom half. A lot of blame also needs to lie with the Palios clowns, why didn't you budget for a possible relegation? It was always a strong possibility. The fact even the cup money doesn't cover for what are relatively cheap wages is a poor indictment on your board. Seems you gambled on staying up and it didn't pay off, and its cost those poor staff their job when it should be the board, management and players suffering instead. End of.
