They have Katrien Meire as CEO (formerly at the Charlton circus a few years ago) and things don't look good behind the scenes at Sheffield Wednesday with them getting a potential points deduction from the EFL.

Do your home work before posting :bg:

Things are not great at Sheffield Wednesday right now but we've still got a long way to drop to catch Ipswich Town up. :fing:

Rumour has it that Sheffield Wednesday have WON their case against the EFL over FFP and the ownership of their stadium.

If that is the case, be prepared for absolute uproar from the rest of the division. Any appeal is likely to go on past the end of July meaning that it would be almost impossible to implement any sanction this season.

I choose my words carefully, but if this indeed leads to a failure by the EFL again, there is time for major change. There is no transparency (who even is on this "independent commission?") The credibility of the EFL is almost zero right now over Birmingham (being found guilty and no punishment), Wigan, Bury and now this. Per the below, they have almost encouraged this situation with the watering down of the stadium sale and leaseback rules.

Details to the case:
http://captivatelegalsports.com/ana...ons-on-the-efls-financial-misconduct-charges/

Prior to the English Football League (EFL) bringing misconduct charges against the club last week, “in respect of a number of allegations regarding the process of how and when [Hillsborough] stadium was sold [to a new company established and wholly owned by Mr. Chansiri] and the inclusion of the profits in the 2017/18 accounts”, we had already struggled to comply with the EFL’s financial regulations for Championship clubs, known as the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (P&S Rules)... I once again became concerned about the club’s ability to comply with the EFL’s financial regulations when it was revealed that the most recent accounts were considerably late. It now appears this was done to financially engineer the sale of the stadium, for an alleged inflated price, to avoid breaching the P&S Rules.

We are not the only club to be under investigation (it is alleged) for such practices. I wasn’t aware until listening to the excellent Price of Football podcast, that under UEFA regulations on financial fair play, clubs are not allowed to include any profit made from an “internal sale” of an asset in its calculations. This used to be the case with the EFL’s rules as well, but this was mysteriously and without explanation removed from season 2016/17 onwards. So, although de facto Mr. Chansiri has done nothing in contravention of the EFL’s current regulations in essentially selling the ground to himself, he is for the purpose of the regulations a “Related Party” and therefore anything sold to a Related Party has to be done at a “Fair Market Value”. The sale price of £60 million to Mr Chansiri’s new company was not it appears a Fair Market Value for the stadium.

...Given comments Mr. Chansiri has made at fans’ forums the club has hosted, he does not agree with the financial regulations applicable to teams in the Championship and has always been looking at ways to circumvent them... The regulations are something that the clubs of the Championship agree to, with the EFL being a membership organisation.

Lot of good it’s done them, anyway. Another load of moolah pissed up the wall.

Paying players outside their contracts. Spurs got charged with exactly the same offence and got fined.

Anyway, what have you spent between 2015 and now?

Douze points! If I was a Charlton fan (or Wigan fan for that matter), I'd be absolutely fuming right now. And rightly so. This season hasn't finished until next week's AGM.

Mouthy Southy.......Its all gone quiet over there..,...real quick to call everyone else out for cheating. Wear that fucking cheat sash with pride you c***. Cos you did cheat. We just tried to stay afloat and survive. Yes it was wrong and our next decent owners were forced to pay the price and carry the burden but we did. You just plain tried to cheat your way to riches. Shameful. Way way worse. Somehow you big name wankers get let off light. Shameful again.

I wouldn't get too comfortable just yet - await the written reasons. I'm sure they'll be an opportunity to water this down somehow, despite their fans accepting the verdict as "guilty as sin". I'm sure though the EFL may also appeal the severity of it.
