Ah Sweden. How are they going to cope without Zlatan? Their squad doesn't look all that impressive on paper. Plus their tournament record is not great, failing to qualify for the last 2 world cups and not making it out of the groups in the last 3 Euros. Will they do anything here?

As for South Korea, they have a few tidy players in Ki Sung-yeung, Lee Chung-yong and of course Spurs striker Son Heung-min. They made it to the last 16 in 2010 and finished 4th in 2002, but apart from that, haven't done all that much. And in a tough group, I think they could be finishing last.

All match chat in here.

Ehrm. While this statement is UNFORTUNATELY true, we have made it through the group stages in the world cup three times in a row. In 94 when we finished third, 2002 through the group of death (us, England, Argentina and Nigeria) and in 2006, again with you (and Paraguay and Trinidad). In fact, when we make it to the world cup, we tend to make it to the knockout stages.

Unfortunately, Mexico always make it through to the round of 16 and go out there and Germany are Germany. And if we somehow, miraculously manage to finish 2nd in this shithouse of a group we're likely going to get Brazil in the knockouts. So yeah, it's looking grim. Quite annoying that we start off with the game we kind of have to win as well. A bit like Ireland in the 2016 Euros, one game can send you out of it should you fail to win.

Mexico are the whippings boys. This will have to be a technical chess match because the loser would be going home most likely. I'd go with S Korea as they have better technical proficiency.

I'm watching South Korea against Honduras right now, and they are looking clueless against a side that decided to bunker down. Sweden tend to do that a lot as far as I'm aware, so I can see a draw or a narrow Sweden win.

I hope Lee Seung Woo plays. He's a talent.

We play a 4-4-2 very similar to Atlético. It was enough to knock out Netherlands and Italy so I'm quietly optimistic, just wish this wasn't the first match.

Now that I am half Korean I don't have to just support England who play really boring defensive counter attacking football. I also get to support Korea who do the same but with even less counter attacking.

Lee Chungyong is definitely not nailed on to start and I'd be surprised if he does, but they might throw him in as he is an experienced head. Lib is bang on about Lee Seungwoo though, if he plays and does well in this match and vs Mexico then he could be the deciding factor regarding who will finish 2nd and go through, in my opinion. Hwang Heechan is another one to watch after having a few decent seasons at Salzburg.

I'm guessing you haven't watched that many Korea games from the last few years?
Not a single minute, but they used to be gung-ho so to speak! Same with the Japanese. I hope they are still like that, otherwise it'll be a torrid affair like Spain v Portugal will be.

Haha Korea will be more than happy trying to knick games 1-0. I haven't seen a massive amount of Japan to be honest, as they were in the other qualifying group but I don't think they're as solid at the back as Korea so probably more likely to be a bit gung-ho.

Nr 10 but could do a job up front right

Anyway that world cup was a farce
The only thing I remember from that world cup was Rivaldo's shenanigans.

I have a lot of respect (and sympathy) for South Korean footballers since Bum-kun Cha came into the Bundesliga end of the 70's (Frankfurt and later Leverkusen). His work ethics, simply fantastic. What a great guy. Even at HSV we had a (now) popular South Korean footballer, Heung-min Son (now Spurs), from 2010 until 2013.

I hope they'll draw with Sweden here.

I remember him playing for you lot for a little bit, I moved to Korea in 2011 so I started noticing him quite early. Always thought he had it in him to do well at Spurs, but he always needed more game time - which he wasn't going to get with a fit Lamela in the squad as well.

Is my app wrong, or is Lindelof not even on the bench??
Edit: Ill according to Lotid?

Yeah he's ill, should be back for the next game. Jansson is an able deputy though, it could be worse.

Should be 1-0 to the Swedes there. Good reactions from the keeper. The koreans look shaky at the back.

According to the Korea manager westerners can't tell asians apart, so he played a load of people out of position/with the wrong no's etc during the friendlies to confuse the scouts.

I recognised Son and that brick shit house of a striker stands out, so he's wrong on that one.

Yeah he'll be right with that one.

If Sweden realised they are allowed to put the ball in Korea's net they'd be winning this one.

Aside from the first 10 minutes, we've been the significantly better team and really, really should have scored one of those chances. How Berg didn't score his tap-in I'll never know.

Good news is that we're playing well and I think we'll get a good few chances in the second half as well. We probably only have to score the one. Come on now for fucks sake.

We should have scored at least 2 goals so far and had 2 pens.

Sweden need a win here, cos I'd imagine they'll be on the end of a backlash from Germany next Saturday.
