Promotion / Relegation
  • Champions and play-off winners of the Premier will go straight into the National North/South. There's none of last season's super play-off malarkey.
  • The bottom 2 in the Premier will be relegated to step 4. Third bottom may be relegated depending on PPG across the 4 step 3 divisions (2 more to go down).
  • Champions and play-off winners of the North, South East & South Central will all be promoted. No PPG fiasco as per last season.
  • No automatic relegation from North, South East & South Central. Bottom side will play-off against a step 5 side. Winner stays/goes up. All part of the re-structure for 2020/21 when we'll see a new step 4 division giving non-league a nice symmetrical 1-2-4-8 structure.

The only relevant appeals I'm seeing so far is that Barking have appealed their placement in the South Central Division, while Southern League side Kings Langley have appealed their placement and want to be placed in the Isthmian Premier Division.

Think Not Police have appealed (again), and want to get switched to the Isthmian Prem. Don't seem to care about who might have to switch the other way. Very selfish of them.

Gateshead booted out of National means a reprieve for Truro, which leaves the southern league one short.
Way I read it that means Heybridge Swifts as the highest rated unlucky playoff winners will join us.
That would leave us one heavy with the most likely scenario being Bognor shunted into the southern league to balance the numbers.

> thinks too much travel in southern league

> complained about the super play off defeat & thinks they should be promoted to Conference South

Go away you non-entity of a football club. Should have been nerfed from the pyramid when Team Bath went for the same reason.

That would make sense though I never understand how all this works.

With Gateshead going then in the National league I guess the option is to either reprieve 4th bottom Aldershot or promote an extra side from step 2 which would be Spennymoor on the grounds they were the best play-off losing finalist (same PPG as Woking but better goal difference).

The knock on effect to the North/South would similarly be to either reprieve Truro (as they had the best PPG of the 6 relegated teams) or promote an extra team from step 3, presumably the best super-play-off loser which would be Warrington as their record is better than Met Police's.

At step 3 the best PPG of the relegated sides is Basingstoke Town, so I don't know whether they would be reprieved or whether Heybridge Swifts would be promoted as they were next in line in the step 4 PPG play-off winners race.

Who knows.

I can't pinpoint the relevant links right now but it's already decided how the vacant places would be allocated. It's reprieves at Steps 1, 2 & 4 for Aldershot, Truro and Molesey; but no reprieve at Step 3 for Basingstoke, where the spare place goes to Heybridge as an "unlucky" play off winner. Harsh on Basingstoke, who were relegated in 20th place with 49 points (and an identical points/playing record to my own club Dulwich, who finished 14th in National South) and were never in the bottom three until the final day of the season when four other results all went against them as they lost their own match.

According to the Isthmian site the league will have new sponsors for next season, replacing Bostik.

To quote "The big news is that the League will have new sponsors for the start of next season. We’d like to sincerely thank Bostik for their support over the last two years, which has been greatly appreciated and has made an enormous difference to our clubs. We’re rather delighted with their replacements, too- but they will not be announced until July 1st. The new contract is with a national brand who want to work with us because of our growing digital footprint, and will last for an initial two years. "

Full article.

I'm going to guess Evo-Stick now has the full step 3 & 4 sponsorship monopoly.

Apparently not, as the Southern League are set to announce a change in sponsorship on the 1st of July away from Evo-Stik.

Bit of a last minute bombshell. .. I know of at least two clubs who have already got next seasons kit on order with full Bostik branding.

Last year Dulwich were forced to reorder complete sets of home and away shirts because the league sponsor's logo was printed on the left sleeve instead of the right sleeve, and this was unacceptable to the National League. Fortunately the club was able to sell them all to supporters and avoid making a loss.

I'm surprised clubs would do that anyway as the sponsors often change their logo from one season to the next.

The Bostik logo on shirts from 2017/18 was different to the Bostik logo on last season's shirt.

Sometimes an incorrect kit is more valuable than the finished article. Theres a (comparatively) legendary K's shirt where the badge was incorrectly placed off centre a little bit which has gone down in Kingstonian folklore.

The boss says "I've signed up the core of the Merstham team, which everyone probably expected" - why is that?
Because he's just resigned from Merstham after 7 seasons to take the Kingstonian job and Merstham have just had a much better season than Kingstonian despite apparently having a smaller budget.

Who have Merstham appointed to replace him? He will have a serious job on his hands building a squad from scratch.

Frank Wilson, who won promotion as D1S champions with Tooting in 2016/17, then took them straight back down the following season. I'm surprised their star striker Walter Figueira isn't among those who've moved to Kingstonian. Maybe he's had a better offer?

Right, so that's our pre-season done and dusted.

8 games

3 wins, all against teams 1 level below - Grays Athletic (2-1); Great Wakering Rovers (4-0) and Hullbridge Sports (3-1)
1 draw, against Dagenham & Redbridge (2-2)
4 defeats, Leyton Orient (0-1), Chelmsford City (0-2), Billericay Town (1-2) and Canvey Island (1-3)

Pretty positive about the new signings though Arthur Lee (signed from Tonbridge) is in plaster as is our left back. So we'll be starting the season a couple of defenders light already.

Glad the friendly shenanighans is out of the way. Roll on Merstham on Saturday for some proper football.

Can not wait for Saturday to indulge in my favourite pastime of having my blind optimism crushed. Hopefully we start the season off better than last time round... having a manager who has actually achieved something before coming to us means we're already on better ground. Not releasing a news article saying "this new signing will help us achieve our promotion goals" every 5 seconds takes a bit of the pressure off too but people (both K's & non-K's) will still be expecting us to do well given we've got the manager & half of the squad from a team that made the play offs last season.

WE DIDN'T LOSE!

I'll take the 0-0 tie with a team that's just been promoted in to the Isthmian Premier over the 3-2 defeat to start last season that saw is reduced to 9 men.

Wingate & Finchley away tomorrow for the K's in match day #2.

Happy with the 2-1 win at Merstham. But for 3 excellent saves we'd have gone 2-0 down and then probably game over but we hung in and managed to nick a couple to win it. Next 3 games are Margate (h), Worthing (a) and then Kingstonian (h) so we'll have a much better idea after those where we're at as a squad.

It’s nice to see that carshalton have lost both of their opening games, 2-0 at Potters Bar and 2-1 to East Thurrock. Long may their form continue!

Must have been a decent result for W & F last night considering they played for almost 80 minutes with 10 men. Rifat might a Fingate stalwart but it’s like he has a quota of sendings-off to fulfil every season.

Ex K as well. We had him on loan for a period of time from (I think) Reading as a youth player around the mid 2000's. Frustrating to be held to a tie against 10 men, even being a goal down for the entirety of the first half, but I keep rewinding my mind 365 days & suddenly nothing Kingstonian related seems too bad anymore.

Surrey based Isthmian promotion contenders start season off with 0 from 2. I'm just happy it's not us this time round :)

I'm sure Carshalton will be up and running soon enough with Peter Adeniyi still in charge.

I reckon East Thurrock could be contenders. John Coventry clearly knows how to cobble together an effective side that'll keep it simple and score enough goals, and they became quite a formidable unit in their last few seasons at this level when the standard was a bit higher prior to the fourth Step 3 division being formed. I would think they had one of the smallest budgets in National South and were operating mostly with non-contract players. They seemed to lose a number of theor better players ahead of the start of last season, made a poor start, then got mired in a relegation battle before they could begin to strengthen. They've done well to get Billy Crook on board, although I believe he lives out that way these days. He used to live in Dulwich / Herne Hill when he played for us.
