To be honest I would have preferred that. Ultimately Sterling and the rest of the squad are the only people who need to get the message. Now if the result against Montenegro is anything less than perfect there'll be a needless media backlash about the decision. What I'm more worried about though is Southgate believing that Maddison can only play as a #10 and reverting to the disastrous double pivot we saw against the Czech Republic in order to accommodate him.

A bust up at training is hardly something to get all wound up about. Press making something out of nothing for once. Bet City are happy Sterling isn't playing.

More worried about the amount of stuff that's getting leaked.

Whilst I do agree that this stuff should have been left in house, Sterling does need to be held accountable for his actions. Yes, I get emotions are raw and all that, but you can't try to grab a fellow international team mate because of an issue with your clubs. He needs to learn to leave that shit at the door.

I worry that Southgate might have alienated him and a few others by taking the action he has, but he also can't leave it unchecked. For far too long, some England players have acted with impunity and been above discipline. By taking this action against arguably England's best player, he's sent a message that no-one is above the law and if you do stupid shit, then welcome to the bench.

I think what he did is to be applauded, but he should have left it in house and dealt with it there.

Bit of both. Can only beat what's in front of you, job done.

Kosovo should be more interesting.

The sort of fan that goes to watch England games at Wembley is a very different type to those that go away. Wembley 'fans' are often day-trippers, an odd type of person that treats an international like a pantomime. Those fans who booed are morons, but in their defence I don't think they meant it maliciously. Either way that'll be of little comfort to Gomez, who appears to have done nothing wrong in all of this.

If Gomez plays in Kosovo on Monday I'm confident the England fans will back him from the off.

The boos were the loudest noise of the night. I’m honestly surprised that our form is as good as it is in that stadium given how lifeless it is almost every time I’ve gone to watch the National side.

As a side note, I have a theory that most of the boos were not for Gomez but for the defensive substitution when it looked like we could rack up a cricket score. Quite a few people near me left shortly after the sub, and I don’t think it was because they didn’t like Gomez lol. The stadium was virtually empty at FT.

Obviously things can change, but as things stand this would be my squad for the Euros;

Pickford, Pope, Heaton

Maguire, Stones, Gomez, Mee, Alexander-Arnold, Trippier, Chilwell, Rose

Henderson, Winks, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Rice, Maddison, Mount,

Kane, Sterling, Vardy, Rashford, Abraham, Sancho

The atmosphere at Wembley is really embarrassing, compare it too games at N/S Ireland wales and Scotland ours is so much worse.

Trippier instead of Walker? Cant see how southgate thinks that too but either way taa is number 1 right back.

Tough one to call, Trippier's impressing for Atletico and was brilliant at the WC. Slightly better defensively I reckon. Agree TAA is first choice anyway.

I doubt that Vardy is going to come out of retirement unless there's some sort of injury crisis.

Be a great option to have off the bench, he's on fire this season. Can't see anyone else I haven't named being anywhere near as good an option. Might be possible to persuade him I reckon.

I always wanna see players picked on form, age/potential is irrelevant you pick the best squad for that tournament. As things stand Vardy is the most in form striker in the country.

Hope Scotland qualify so we can smash them at Wembley in a major tournament.

Be made favourites it seems after the draw .

Tricky thing is we might face one of Germany , Portugal or France in the 2nd round .

The way the draw works means it looks easier to get to the semis/final if we finish second in the group.

Draw couldn't have gone much worse. Whatever group we got we were always getting through, but we will win the group quite easily I'd say with all being at home and we now will most likely face germany in dublin, so if that happens it's another 1st round knockout in the euros for our last 4 weve been in it, out in the groups in one and never qualified in the other in the 6 since 96. If its France were also out, and tbh I wouldnt be confident against Portugal either. We managed to get knocked out twice to them in 04 and 06 despite having a vastly superior team.

Hoodoos are meant to be broken. Hadn't won a pen shootout in a major tournament before Russia. No reason why we couldn't beat any of those sides in a one-off game.

jordan Henderson has been named England's player of the year.

Maybe a bit surprising given the talents in the attacking side of our game?

Fans I guess ?

With Rashford and Kane out for a whille chance for another striker to get a chance ..

Who would you pick?

Think Southgate will go for Abraham.

If it's France we're fucked. If it's Germany not ideal but they're rebuilding so we'd have a decent chance. Portugal are beatable, although they seem to be one of those annoying sides that don't often look great but shithouse their way through.

Basically avoid France.

Pickford''s England spot must be under pressure ?

Another mistake gifting Palace a goal.

Dean henderson surely has to be considered for number 1 never mind the squad.
