Barrow would have been caught anyway. Wheels had come off. No promotion, no relegation, happy days

Well this is exactly it - I would never suggest we should be champions, and if there was no vacancy in the EFL then I think we'd grudgingly accept that we aren't getting promoted. But the fact of the matter is that one team will almost certainly be filling that gap, and all metrics and measurements of achievement over the past 8 months suggest it should be Barrow.

I agree with you over your right to claim the spot but I did read an interesting point that never crossed my mind on the Notts forum.
If this season is null and void, we revert to May 1st 2019 effectively and as Bury have folded, only Yeovil should have been relegated and Notts would be saved by default having finished 91st. There is a logic to it but if I were a Barrow fan having been booted out the league legally but unjustly to be denied entrance back again probably legally but unjustly would send me bonkers !

I think N+V will be an option - but one that is totally unpalatable for the League as it will most certainly lead to 2 up 2 down between EFL and NL going back to 1 up 1 down, which will be suicidal for the National League. That would mean that the only 3 clubs that benefit in the short term from N+V would be Ebbsfleet, AFC Fylde and Chorley. In the long term if it goes to 1 up 1 down then absolutely nobody in the League benefits from N+V.

This is pure guesswork, let's see some sources for this information.

Sure the bottom three should survive in the National League from a null and void season, but none of them were actually relegated at the time of stopping (maybe Chorley?), much like Barrow who weren't champions when things were stopped, dishing out promotions and relegations with 9/10 games left to play is a farce.

Saying that if the EFL want another team to fill in the gap in their league from one team in the National League, I don't think anyone could argue against Barrow taking it, (maybe Notts with the Bury situation)

the trouble with that argument is that Bury legally still exist and did at the start of the 2019/20 season - so reverting back to May 1st 2019 still leaves you relegated.

The EFL statement yesterday whilst it doesn't say it can be read as if the NL do the wrong thing it won't be 2 up 2 down...

"As it stands, the English Football League (EFL) is still working on the principle of two teams getting promoted - but that will depend on whatever format the National League decides."

As for Chorley - no they were not Mathematically down - but even if AFC Fylde, Ebbsfleet, Maidenhead etc didn't pick up another point Chorley would have needed 17 points (18 realistically with their goal difference) out of the last 24 to get out of the bottom 4.

Nice try Mr Haythornthwaite.

I don't think there will be a promotion/relegation matt. Barrow have had a great season and well done but in the end it will amount to nothing. You'll be back to mill farm next season. Enjoy your summer

You're Fylde, nobody cares what you think. Come back when you support a proper club. What's that one you used to follow? Blackburn? Hartlepool? Hartleburn or something? :ds:

We would have escaped. No two ways about it, so on that basis they need to scrap relegation. They will do anyway

It's pretty clear to me that that only applies to this season.

You constantly repeating the notion that voiding the season will mean the EFL would scrap 2 up 2 down sounds to me like a bizarre attempt to pressure clubs not to void so Barrow can go up.

If the EFL wanted to change the number of clubs being promoted/relegated why would they need such an excuse? Surely they would have just gone ahead and done it before now (or never have implemented it in the first place)?

So you think it's fairer to deny everyone the chance for promotion? There is no way in the world you'd want to null and void it if you were top, no matter how much you protest.

And there is no way in the world you would be so keen for the side who happen to be top with 9 games to play be promoted if it wasn't Barrow, no matter how much you protest.

Self interest is hardly a surprise is it?

No idea why he keeps doing it, he's had Barrow promoted since October.

That's literally the opposite of what I think! If the roles were reversed and there was still a gap in the EFL, then obviously Notts would be entitled to it. The whole point I'm making all along is that I can't see how anyone other than the highest placed non-league team takes that space.

All along I've wanted the season to resume, but it isn't going to so this has to be the next best option.

I suppose that’s true - I could accept a scenario where the season is declared void and there’s no champion or ‘promotion’ in the record books, but Barrow are invited to fill the vacant EFL spot when we return, as fair enough.

it's not just me saying it it's also fans of L2 teams.
Also the likelyhood is that with the EFL rule book allowing them to invite a team to replace Bury without breaking their rules means Barrow would be likely to be in the League next season whatever (likely but yes - not 100%). If the change from 2 up 2 down was just for this season the same would apply - why would the majority vote to spite the 2nd promoted team - when the team that's top will probably be unaffected by the vote and be in the EFL whatever happens.

The dilatory nature of their support, their away followings to either Underhill or the Hive have been pathetic compared to what we bring to theirs and our average attendance has been lower than theirs for the past decade. I just get the feeling that their fan base is not committed and they started out as exiled Spurs fans.
Nothing is more shabby and dispiriting than a new town falling into disrepair.
All this after they have gone back to being 4 sided again......ah well.
To be fair, the place is as dull as fuck, like a Hertfordshire version of Swindon. A place you go through to go somewhere else.

Loads of fuckers about round my way. Lockdown won't last unless the government put their foot back down.

Media have over sold this.

Time to get back on with our lives as best we can (still some necessary restrictions needed for precaution) and stop shutting down the economy and ruining the future for millions of young people.

Mate who lives not far from Lake Garda reckons they're easing things there and planning to re-open restaurants and cafe's with the exception that tables must be 1 metre apart.

You couldn't make this shit up. As if that will stop contact.

It's called "we need to get the economy back up and running" but still want to look like we're taking measures.

It's fucking rammed my way and I live in a village. People are voting with their feet. I told you all last week, the people will decide.

it worked well in 1918 (Spanish flu) when the people decided - the 2nd wave killed 3 or 4 times the amount 1st wave did.

Non Covid deaths have doubled. There will be a massive rise in the number of undiagnosed cancer cases. The "stay at home or your scum" scaremongerers need to be really, really careful what side of history they want to be on.

The Chief Scientific advisor was practically begging people come back to A&E's the other day.

Barrow would be straight back down anyway if not in the first season, then the second, so send them up I say.

whilst i agree that people who are ill do need to attend appointments and go to hospital if they need to I think some people are scared they'll contact covid-19 if they do.

The Coronavirus Media wank off has left them so scared to go and get treatment either because they'll get it or more likely because the tone feels like if you haven't got Covid symptoms you're a selfish bastard who needs to stay at home and shut up.

The media have read the tone completely wrong, whilst we’re all desperate for some positive news the idea that we’re over the worst of it is completely misplaced. All we’ve seen in the decline in deaths and infection rates (if the latter can even be measured), indicates that lockdown is working.

We haven’t beaten the virus, there is no cure, and if we allow people to go back to normal too early the ‘second peak’ of deaths may well be higher than the first. Like someone said earlier you only need to look at the Spanish flu outbreak to understand basic epidemiology.

Stop being shits and stay the fuck at home.
