I agree with the Macc fans, targets should change during the season and anything other than top 5 now would be poor for Macc

Every football fan in the world probably thinks things could be better. Lets be honest though things could be a hell a lot worse

Is that how we judge managers now? 'Well it could be worse', it just sums up the desperately negative attitude he's instilled in some fans.

His post match interview sums him up.

Interviewer - Is that a substitution you will make in the future?

PH - Absolutely yes.

An absolute refusal to ever just admit he got it wrong.

Nah I can somewhat come to terms with his inability to manage a football team but the guy is a colossal shaft in general.

First half was a total shambles, 2nd half was better but we dont shoot enough and try to walk it in half the time, which never works.

Good to see Williams on the scoresheet, and once again we are almost solely relying on him for goals on a regular basis. He may not be a world beater, he may have a few weaknesses and he could apply himself more - but at this level he does enough to be a first team regular and i'm sure if we dont keep him this summer someone else in this league will have him. That said, he is the club scapegoat this season which in my opinion is crazy.

like I said every other time he has done it we haven't ended up drawing or losing why would he flatly refuse to ever make it again, just because we dropped points with it today?

I'd say the negative attitude is coming from people like you who flatly refuse to praise the manager when we win but very quick to slate him when we don't. There is 16 players in the match day side that also need praising when we win and slating when we lose.

I don't agree with the sub but can see why it was made, but lets be honest we are still in a great position for promotion. Ironically we could do with LJL back because he can hold the ball up better when we are winning.

Maybe you should go back to Cyprus and stop posting here, we do better then. Just don't be there in October when I go, because people will get pissed off if we keep arguing in person rather than a few anonymous users on here ;)

"The game seemed to changed when you made the substitution, is that something you'd agree with?"
"Yeah, yeah of course." (realisation that he's actually taking the blame) "But, well- ..hmm, we- well, I do agree that that's when the goals came"

Very nearly had a breakthrough there. Close but no cigar.

2-2. Fuck sakes rovers. Making me look an idiot now

Basically yeah. You can't budget for two class goals like those in ten minutes. You can't even budget for two goals of that calibre in ten games. Zilch from your fans for 80 minutes and in the final few they were all stood up. Was a cracking game and your fans need to realise you have excellent quality at this level and showed the character of champions.

I just think you should take into consideration what your expectations were at the start of the season. Surely you didn't think you would be in a strong position to feature in the playoffs
No I didn't but now we are it would be verging on a disgrace to throw it away IMO.

To be fair to the management and players in their interviews they all say they're targeting top spot, you'd never believe it by seeing how they play each week though.

Good numbers and noise from Grimsby but loathed to praise them myself considering how badly behaved some were in town before the game, Town Crier smashed up apparently, a few arrests made.
Anyone who stands there shouting 'O'YE O'YE deserves to get smashed up in my opinion...... ;) :D

P.s. I am guessing the Town Crier is a pub, and if it should actually be a person you are talking about, then i apologise!! :D

I'd usually say this league needs three promotion spots but this season we'd probably be better off with none.

Ha, aye pub outside the railway station, it's had a few redecorations in the past from Wrexham but today was a surprise. Police even put some buses on after the game to take your fans back to the station because they didn't want anyone roaming around.

"You said after the Braintree game you'd take the flak when things go wrong, will you take the flak for today?"
"... has it gone wrong?"

Another top class interview by Paul Hurst Football Genius. Any old sod could listen to the things he says and know he's a detriment to the workplace, but unfortunately he's employed by a bloke who is notorious for saying moronic things on a regular basis.

But we conceded a goal against Woking when we tried it and came close to doing the same against Braintree. First time you use it, fine. Second time, a little fool hardy but it's a warning. Third time? No sympathy whatsoever. Don't they say insanity is the result of doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result? It's 'worked' as such previously, but we've looked worse off for it every single time.

The buck stops with the manager, it's as simple as that. That LJL comment just sums it up, you have 2 strikers who have 2 goals each in 2 games and you want LJL back because 'he holds the ball up. It's so negative it's untrue!

Back to Cyprus in a couple of weeks, terrible place. The only up shot is still being able to earn an ops bonus, not that you suppliers will get about enough to earn one

Blimey - it didn't sound cracking! we score barely any goals, because we can't finish. Clarke got his tactics wrong today. To start with Monkhouse upfront or absurd!

The character of champions would never have gone 2 down from 2 shots on target.

You all know what I think of Hurst, but I don't think it's fair to put the blame solely on him for today's result. Putting in a midfielder or a defender for a striker should make the side more solid at the back, so I think the players have to take some of the flak too.
Re. Hurst's interview, how many managers hold their hands up and say 'I was wrong and cost my club 2/3 points'? Not saying it's ok but something that's accepted as the norm by football fans of all clubs.

Fair play to Martin Allen, fans slating him then he does that open letter and suddenly the old Barnet seems to be back, winning at tough away grounds.
Don't know if had any positive effect on their players today but if it did then credit where credits due i suppose?

I didn't say I wanted LJL back I said if he was up there up front on his own it would work better, notice you didn't mention the LJL comment in the interview where Hurst said the obvious substitution was LJL for Palmer but LJL wasn't available suggesting he wouldn't have started LJL and if he had better options he wouldn't have brought Parslow on for Palmer either.

Some of us have more sense than to earn op bonuses, plenty of suppliers to volunteer for going to places where you get one.

If Grimsby or Barnet (or both) manage promotion this season, it will surely go down as the most unpopular manager(s) ever to gain a promotion!

(I mean from teams own fans of course)

He'll talk about LJL more than anybody else, anything he says it's justifying LJL, constantly. It's absolutely tiresome. Yes he would've been good on 70 mins today, no doubt about that. But Palmer and JPP are consistently doing the business and putting the ball in the back of the net.

Why did it HAVE to be Parslow? He's a defender, you had Scott Brown sat on the bench, a better option. Parslow is another one of Pauls favorites, does anybody actually have any idea what he contributes because I personally am struggling!

Aye, people like Edgy! Nah Cyprus isn't so bad, problem is the only place to get any wifi etc is in the pub. Which is an issue when you're on a drinking ban. Mess is pretty decent now too, and free if you're classed as on Ops too?

I couldn't make the game today so I can't comment on the performance. It sounds like many of our matches this season (eg. Kiddy) start strongly, then a silly mistake and it's backs to the wall until 90 mins. Stack apparently had to make several worldie saves, they hit the post and we cleared off the line twice in the last 20 mins, so I can't say it sounds convincing, but I'll leave that judgement to the ones who were there?

Still, a fantastic, fantastic result where I really did not think we'd get one. The lineup sounded disgusting and again not being there makes it hard to comment further, but I'm extremely glad to be proven wrong this week.

Onto another tricky tie away at Halifax on Tuesday now. Win that and we're 3 ahead going into a nice run of Welling, Alfreton, Dartford and Nuneaton, so that would be a lovely thing to happen.

I might bet against us every week!

Surely Parslow the defender/defensive mid is a better option to go 4-5-1 than Brown the central midfielder?

Yes i will be on ops though fully expect after the election to it not being Cyprus!

Character's what shows up to get results in the end, and the amount of points you've snatched in dying minutes must be mind boggling. Why would you comment on these things when you weren't even there? No singing unless you score, no compliments taken for your team's play. Who were the last Conference side that whinged their way to the title?

Parslow has been awful since he got here, I'm not even sure what his position is.

Oh definitely, after seeing the waves already being made out there. I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a 'new' destination on peoples assignment orders come summer.

Nope, pretty wrong. We were much the better side and really should have made it 3-0 until we gave away a soft but justified penalty and it was a bit hairy for the last 15 minutes but we still broke away and had a couple of chances.
Yep Stack had to make some great saves but Flitney did too. In fact, Flitney was by far the busier keeper until the penalty. Yes, we were under pressure for those last few minutes but we were bound to be against a top 6 team who had been in great form and had just beaten Bristol Rovers.
The line up worked. I didn't think it would but it did. We can do the same at Halifax (or wherever it's going to be played).

A good set of results today keep us in the hunt.

1FF is brilliant this evening.

Good point for us, shame we were so bad in the first half of the season or we could have had a chance at getting in the playoffs.
= us last season.

Brilliant day for Barnet, the only team in the top 7 who won!
Ahem! :bye:

Just got in from match against Grimsby. I left at 0-2 and heard a big cheer and though 0-3 because of Grimsby's amazing support ( must have been 800 there), but it was 1-2 and soon after it was 2-2.
Hahahahaha. Serves you right for leaving early.

Rapidly getting fed up.
Hahahahaha. You're joking, right?

Are you obsessed?
I'm pleased that GTFC1979 isn't obsessed with me anymore.

Good numbers and noise from Grimsby but loathed to praise them myself considering how badly behaved some were in town before the game, Town Crier smashed up apparently, a few arrests made.
Doesn't sound that bad. I mean, our yoof shook Barnet's goal net and were branded the worst supporters they've ever seen in 30 years etc.

Fair play to Martin Allen, fans slating him then he does that open letter and suddenly the old Barnet seems to be back, winning at tough away grounds.

Yeah fair play to Martin, like. All of...two away wins in-a-row. :fl: p.s. one against Altrincham...

Our game was a draw, which was a pretty fair result as neither team really did enough to deserve all three points. Devonshire did a job again, set his team up to frustrate their opponent, there are plenty of managers who get nowhere near as much from their players than he does. The frustrating thing for Rovers fans was that the Braintree goal came from a free kick that probably wasn't, resulted in a yellow card that probably shouldn't have been and that was probably taken before the referee blew his whistle. The fact that it sailed over the head of a 6ft 5ins keeper who wasn't that far off his line, and that he really should be able to catch the ball when unchallenged, is a subject of considerable debate on the Rovers Forum.
