Who is James Papworth?

Don't like the idea of being sold to a random person.

All the mods and admins here are fucking lazy, don't listen to anyone, express no desire to actually change anything for the better and are as distant as the Norse gods of old. This place is a fucking shambles, and no-one who could actually do anything seems to give a toss. 'Cept Tommy. He's ok. I don't even care about being a mod (that's a lie I want to be a mod more than anything else in the world), but FFS, as anyone could tell you the most important thing in a relationship is communication. If this was a relationship we'd be an attentive, loving wife with a husband who keeps popping out for beers at all hours and who fences our beautiful renditions of lilies on the down-low to some rando shysters down the local. We need change.

TractorBoys.

Out with the old, in with the new!
I know they've put a lot of time in to run the site, and appreciate that a lot, but seems a bit rich that they kept asking for contributions from us lot to help run the site, which a lot of us have paid, and it turns out they never needed the money, were making plenty of profit anyway, and will now make a shit tonne of profit on top from selling the site.

Such is life mate. A lot would do similar under the same circumstances, I probably would.

A) That classified is 4 months old and the sale is not currently active- as can be seen publicly on that listing.
B) It's been public knowledge for around 6 months that I'm leaving the forum for personal reasons.
C) The amount of initial investment and continued time for the technical upkeep to operate & maintain to the site means I have a completely clear conscience knowing I have poured a hundreds, if not thousands of hours, into this place, willingly.
D) Site supporter/donations from my side have always been for you guys to browse ad free and support the site if you wish too, I've never shoved it down your throat.

Hopefully that covers it. It's was public classified sales listing for a reason- there was no need for it to be private and there still isn't. Flippa offers both Classfieds and Auction formats. The former is simply to gauge interest. We aren't about to offload the site to just anybody.

Would explain the lack of shits given about the site in recent months, let's face it.

It's an opinion, but a naive one. Even with all the shit I have going on I still spend around 5 hours per week doing the menial back end work on the site keeping things ticking over and approving new members, dealing with new members etc. 'Lack of shits' given. Yeah.

Can understand a lot of your points, but seems from the financials on that listing you've been making most of your investment back anyway?

If you fancy leaving can't you just pass on to someone else?

Anyway, thanks for unlocking the thread. Will leave it alone now.

Oh right. It's just these posts seem to be pretty recent:

Hello all,

We have just received an offer of $26,000. As a courtesy to all interested parties, and in an attempt to secure the best possible price, we will allow 72 hours for others to counter before accepting/rejecting.

Best,
James

Explain which part of your post disproves the following statement;
"That classified is 4 months old and the sale is not currently active"

There are various possibilities.

What we aren't going to do is float to them all to a community of 3,000 people- as much as that sounds like a fantastic idea, it won't work.

What is going to happen, is when something is landed on that seems feasible, it will be put to the core userbase and the majority are set against it then it won't be pushed through.

Why would he definetely need to pass it on to someone else mate?

1FF is split owned 50-50 between myself and TB - as TB mentioned above various possibilities - it's just 'for sure' that TB wants out of his half for personal reasons.

A) That classified is 4 months old and the sale is not currently active- as can be seen publicly on that listing.

So, does that mean the site has been sold, or what?

B) It's been public knowledge for around 6 months that I'm leaving the forum for personal reasons.

Yes, but it has not been public knowledge that the forum is up for sale, this is where the problem lies. I understand you own the site, but without us, there is no site. We provide the content. We provide the cashflow. You provide the site. Seems it would be a fair tradeoff for us to be aware of the goings on of the forum, no?

C) The amount of initial investment and continued time for the technical upkeep to operate & maintain to the site means I have a completely clear conscience knowing I have poured a hundreds, if not thousands of hours, into this place, willingly.

Fair. But it hasn't been without any returns by the looks of that site, has it? I don't expect all of that work to be done for free, nor do any of us, but the way this is stated makes it sound like you're doing it for free.

D) Site supporter/donations from my side have always been for you guys to browse ad free and support the site if you wish too, I've never shoved it down your throat.

Fair.

Hopefully that covers it. It's was public classified sales listing for a reason- there was no need for it to be private and there still isn't.

Yet, as stated, this was not communicated, and we had to find out from random happenstance of a forum member googling the name of the site.

It's an opinion, but a naive one. Even with all the shit I have going on I still spend around 5 hours per week doing the menial back end work on the site keeping things ticking over and approving new members, dealing with new members etc. 'Lack of shits' given. Yeah.

Okay, fair enough, but see it from the side of the members. Mark is the only (semi) visible admin unless shit is kicking off (like now), and only one moderator seems to give a flying fuck about the rest of the forum, that being T.A.

I get the site runs well like this usually, but it is still nice to have a visible presence around, you can understand why I (and a few others) believe that the site has just been left to its own devices, and that it seems that none of the staff give a shite.

I wasn't trying to disprove anything.

The serious response to your post is;

Flippa offers two listings;

A classified; designed to gauge interest and value a website before taking it to market
An auction; designed to obtain legally binding bids and obtain a contractual sale

The active listing we had means even if we receive an offer, at that point we can come to the forum & put it to the core users, explain who the potential buyer(s) are, any plans they have etc, and gauge response.

At present, neither of the above apply.

RE: Has this site been sold?

No, absolutely not. We had been speaking to 3 or 4 people but in the immediate time frame there have been no new discussions & the listing is not live.

Visible presence I get, but to be fair that's never been my thing ever since we started Jan 2015, I was open that I would handle the technical aspects. Here's a snapshot of what I've done recently in the admin backend, this doesn't even include the server stuff or if anything goes wrong. I'm certainly not sat with my thumb up my arse!
