The only question now is, if we do end up finishing fourth, how long before the top three start losing matches on purpose to make sure that they face us in the play off semi finals.

You're not serious are you? So the top 3 dismiss first place so they can face Macc in the play-offs? Your theory only works if the title's already decided with 2/3 games to go, which is something I can't see.

Yeah, obviously that only happens if someone runs away with the title. Though given what some of the Grimsby fans say about Paul Hurst's management, it's not impossible that they might be targeting third place.

We didn't sit back, they scored with there second effort on goal. It was from a free kick taken on the halfway line, aside from that they didn't threaten once, they were shite.

Played well today, aside from Clay and Disley in the middle who seemed wasteful. Palmer was superb, LJL came on at exactly the right time and looks much better off the bench in my eyes. Jolley and Arnold were good on the wings.

Eastleigh were a fucking horrible bunch of c***, and they were shite.

What about the great save Mckeown had to pull off in the last 10 mins?

Agreed Eastliegh were poor and didn't threaten at all but they still had most of the ball the last 10 mins and we sat back and let them attack us.

We were comfortable until then and it would have been a travesty if they got a point but there is no denying they scored and we had to pull off a good save to get the win.

Jolley isn't a winger as we have been told and Pittman was largely anonymous most of the game other than that no one had a bad game.

Massive result for us today. Finally, FINALLY we got the result we deserved against a 'top' side. Should have made it easier for ourselves by putting away the chances we created. FGR didn't produce much. Hoof ball and long throws at Parkin's face for 90 minutes. Penalty looked a bit soft, will need another look at it.

Not a bad following from them. Atmosphere was pretty good for the first 20 minutes but then both set of fans seemed to get bored.

Oh, thanks to Halifax, Gateshead, Eastleigh and Macclesfield for all messing up. :woo:

Get in there. Penalty was a bit soft, but we probably edged the play - it was very even mind and you could argue they deserved a point. The duck of playing shit against top teams is over, only 4 points behind them now and with Eastleigh and Halifax dropping points we're right back in it - 4 points off with a game in hand. Fucking brilliant.

Bit soft? It was never in a million years a foul. Thought Forest Green slightly shaded it overall, Bennett hit the bar and Cole made a great save. Point would probably have been fair though. Surprised their keeper wasn't tested more, didn't look at all comfortable. I also may need a neck brace from Forest Green's hoofing.

On a side note, good to see Brian Saah having a great game, surprised he's back in the Conference.

That's basically what I meant. The refereeing is shocking in this league though, it's gone against us a fair bit in the past - although we had a few half-decent penalty shouts in the first half. Brian Saah was immense, two times he saved us with last-ditch challenges. Yeah, it was pretty even, just good to see us hold out solidly as our defending has been poor this year. We passed it about very nicely at times in the first half, certainly played better football than them, although they did look very dangerous from set pieces and counter attacks especially. Parkin kicked Ricko on the ground (and Joey Jones later in thr game apparently) so hopefully our video shows it and the fat lump gets the ban he deserves, dirty thug.

How come you were at Kingfield anyway, what did you think of the setup?

Been said already how bad a game it was Nuneaton if anything wanted it a bit more today which was the worst bit, we are now playing how I expected us to play at the start of the season, shame the wheels have come off big time but you
Play one up front at home and it doesn't set the right tone.

Love a late equaliser against a team that time wastes for about 70mins.

We're very much on holiday and neither team deserved a win. Easy to see why Alfreton are where they are in the league...very nice goal for them though, screamer.
What? Have you watched a different game to me?
We didnt do any time wasting? Nothing of the sort.

It was an enjoyable game. You are a very decent side indeed. First half we played one of our best halfs of the season and just about shaded it.
Yes the Goal from Tom Shaw is an absolute wonder-goal. Contender for goal of the season and certain to win our goal of the season. If it was in the Prem it would be all over SSHQ.

You were a constant threat though. That Heneghan looks a hell of a player. He cleared off the line twice and popped up of course with the equalizer. And talking of the equalizer What the fuck is the Ref doing?! He was an embarrassment. I was stood right next to Nicky when the referees accessor told him "He was awful I have awarded him 2/10. You wont see him at this level again. He is being demoted". Not at all surprised. How he can say that was not a foul in the build up to the goal i dont know? :bl:

Cant wait for the highlights for that goal though

Shrewdblue can you explain this - We're very much on holiday and neither team deserved a win. Easy to see why Alfreton are where they are in the league? Couldnt disagree more? Both sides looked well up for it. You own twitter account said as much during the first half?

You can see why we are were we are in the league? huh? I struggle to find any negatives today from us? Perhaps we should have taken one of those chances in the second half with Jake Speight? If you think were poor today I dread to think what you would of though of us at Woking Grimsby etc. We have come on leaps and bounds.

Sorry for the long winded post?

Let's hope you are of a similar standard to Welling.

Hmmm, arrived at Alfreton but no personal welcome from DarkSithLord

Very disappointing.
Haha mate. Must admit that made me chuckle

Looks like I have watched a different game to the Chester fans on here? If you think that was dreadful you have been here Tuesday or at the game at Dartford,Telford and Nuneaton to name a few. That was fairly decent. You guys played ok. So did ourselves. Good to see Jon back too!

No idea of course how Welling played today but if it was similar to how they did against Alty we will be comfortably better than that.

I expect to you win by two clear goals but only pulling away in the final quarter with Akinde being the difference. He is certain to score.
Today was a blow for us. Left us needing nothing but three points from Tuesday v Dartford

Timewasting - Your keeper was the main culprit for this. Ref had to tell him to get on with it numerous times and it got to the point where the ref had to start timing every goal kick he was taking. Your sub took about 15 minutes to stroll off the pitch as well.

Heneghan - Yep he is class and is still very young, we picked him up last year after he was released by Stoke. I'd be very surprised if we don't make some good money from him in the future. Didn't see his early goalline clearance as I missed the first few mins due to walking around the whole stadium looking for the away entrance :ffs:

Ref/Equaliser - I have no idea whether there was a foul in the build up as I couldn't see properly from the other end of the ground so will have to have a look at the highlights. I thought the ref had a good game but if i'm honest that is probably because he gave us pretty much everything.

Your league position - You're much better than Welling and Telford (Haven't seen Dartford and Nuneaton so can't comment) but your players couldn't seem to connect with the ball properly (with the exception of the Shaw goal which was the complete opposite) and it was being spannered all over the place.

Jake Speight - I thought he was a great signing for you but to be honest, and I'm not fishing here, I thought he was pretty ineffective and with the chances that fell to him he has to at least test Worsnop.

Heneghan gets better every week, to think when we signed him, one of his last games was the season before on loan at Droylsden where they shipped in about eight goals in one game, hardly an endorsement!

Overall today, maybe I missed something but just didn't rate it as a spectacle. Our performance was littered with mistakes and over/under hit crosses and passes.

I'd agree, I think that's what everyone is getting so frustrated about rather than the actual poor results if that makes sense. It's painful to watch when we have seen the kind of football the same team can play.

Time wasting - No idea on that. Cant say I noticed any myself. As for the Ref timing the time he takes on goalkicks I think he had much more important things to work about than that!

Equalizer - The foul on Hawley was up the other end of the pitch near the Chester fans. You then broke and McConville cross was header in by Heneghan. How many goals is that for him now? As for the foul Clear two hands in his back. Foul every day of the week even Burr admitted in his post match interview as much.

Re our league position I still believe we have enough to stay above Welling not sure about our chances of finish any higher than 20th especially looking at Southports fixtures which are very favourable. As for not connecting with the ball properly thats the full time/part time thing I think. Something that was noticeable at times as you guys never stopped.

Regarding Jake Speight lets be honest he had done more in his first 5 minutes than Ironside did in the whole 90. He wass poor. If Speight doesnt take his starting place on Tuesday Id be gobsmacked. Yes he should have taken one o his chances but he worked damn Hard as did Hawley and knew his job.

You really shouldn't worry DSL, Welling won't make up the gap on you as our thrashing of them ought to have totally demoralised them. Assuming you beat Dartford, I'd think that that would be enough for you to stay up.

Yep I am thinking a win on Tuesday and a win against Welling on the penultimate will be enough. Wellings final four tho are Wrexham who could be well and truly on their holidays by then, Kiddy who are in awful form, Alfreton and then Southport so....

Strange how people see games differently. Clay was my MOM today with Disley a close 2nd and Jolley was bloody awful again. Seems to be the view of most posters on The Fishy too.

Pitman wasn't great, but Jolley was alright I thought. Had a hand in the goal and made some decent runs, fluffed a few crosses etc. but he was encouraging. Clay wasn't great today, gave the ball away a lot. Magnays work for the first goal was superb.

That bad?

He was getting embarrassed by non-league wingers not too long ago, so I'm not surprised he's struggling against L1 players.

Halifax fans are very quiet today. Happy with the point really, they probably did enough to shade it. Halifax's teenage "firm" was cute.

We did warn you great going forward setting up goals etc but gets caught far too often defensively and definitely by pacey wingers/forwards.

Enjoyed today, comfortable all game. Gash and Vilhete really stood out. felt sorry for Vose who still looks fairly decent, Wellings keeper did his best but otherwise they looked poor.

Sounds like Clay is our new man in the middle who does a lot that people don't see. I personally don't know because I've barely seen us this season but looking on twitter the opinion on him is largely divided.

I thought Disley and Clay did well, sure Clay gave the ball away a couple times but he works hard and puts in some tackles, he is keeping Brown out and rightly so imo, wouldn't go as far as giving him MoM like some yesterday but i also wouldn't say he was poor either.

Edit: Oh and Clay is in the team of the day in the non league paper.

Down in the Ryman South, normal service was resumed at Burgess Hill who beat Chipstead 3-0 and have a record of P38 W30 D7 L1 PTS 97. I went to watch Worthing draw 1-1 with Folkestone Invicta on "pay what you like day"- cracking match, played in great spirit with not a little skill, and a crowd of 446, and a Great Dane wearing full away kit (minus socks, that would just be silly). I think that Worthing will just miss out on the playoffs, sadly, but for a club with no money and a team full of kids they're doing remarkably well.

Oh my Welling were bad. Look very much like a Conf South team bar Vose who can only do so much on his own.

Very easy win for us, we didn't need to get out of second gear and still scored five. Tougher tests in store, Welling look doomed.
