We had a Wimbledon season ticker holder visit us on Friday, and within five minutes of arriving his son and one of mine were sent out with crisp twenties to get a load of pasties. This got us thinking about which place has the best food around, not in, the ground? He said that he heard Fleetwood had the best fish and chip shop near the ground.

I did have to point out that the Kingfisher chip shop in Plymouth won last years national chip shop awards, but it is not close to the ground.

So where is the best place you have eaten near the ground before a match in league 1? I hope Wimbledon and Bradford score highly, as they are likely to be the only two away games we do this year.

Can't beat an Ivor Dewdneys from the van outside home park.

Fish and chips at Cleethorpes away was good last year though.

We've got Fatboys cafe just down the road. They do a roaring trade and are much better vfm than eating in the ground. The portions are enormous though so if you've got a small appetite you need to ask for half portions.

We have a burger van at one end of the ground is standard fare and quality. The Ozone Complex has a Chippy, Chinese and another restaurant (can't remember what) as well, all ok I think as haven't eaten in them in years. If you're brave enough, there is a local takeaway in Blackbird Leys a 10 min walk away which seems reasonably busy but haven't a clue what it is like. Nothing outstanding unfortunately.

Remember there used to be (could still be there and good) a fantastic Chippy right by Selhurst Park many moons ago. It sticks in the mind as it had 7 strengths/flavours of homemade Curry Sauce and really good chips.

Rag Pudding @ Grotland is unbeatable except by a takeaway Chaddys black pud off Bury's world famous market, extra fatty with English mustard please.

Steels is always good. Best to book before you go though. It's dated but that's the point.

If you like a curry then you'll be sorted for Bradford, more post-game food though. You can't really get a bad one, that's why everyone will recommend a different one to you.

Rochdale's chippy is good. There was also a decent pub about 10 minutes walk from Deepdale which did incredible pies, can't for the life of me remember the name of the place though.

Wimbledon for a bit of up market fish http://www.fishkitchenkingston.com/

Bristol Rovers, Gloucester Road, possibly as good as the offerings in Cleethorpes (best ever) and with room to sit down.

Apparently Fish kitchen is top notch and it's very close to Norbiton station. It isn't cheap though. If you want bog standard fish and chips, or pies, or saveloys etc, etc, there's a chippy in the same parade as Fatboys. The chips are excellent although I can't vouch for anything else.

Can't beat us for choice - Nandos, Bella Italia, TGI Fridays, Pizza Express, Prezzo, Chimichanga, Frankie and Benny's, KFC, McDonalds, Asda's cafe, IKEA restaurant - all within metres of our stadium.

Everything I want from an away day, a little mooch looking at chest cabinets in Ikea before a cheeky Nandos and then pop in to Asda for a pint of milk to take home.
Don't forget to visit a bookshop and buy Kevin Beresford's Roundabouts of Great Britain.

Granada fish bar in Albert Square ( less than 5 minutes from ground ) is excellent. Also there is a Chippie right opposite ground now under 'new management' Remember going in there some 49 years ago just after Man Utd had won the European Cup, p...as a fart, the owner then was a City fan, oh yes Fleetwood were then in the old Lancashire Combination-Happy Days mate

You do the best pies though, so no need to get food outside of the ground.

There's a great chippy about 2 mins walk from Crewe station. Not sure what it's called but that's worth the visit to Gresty Road on its own.

If it's the one I'm thinking of (on Nantwich Road), it had turned into Job Agency or something similar by last season. There's another half decent one a bit further down Nantwich Road - on the way to the Beer Shop (about 100 yds), which is definitely worth a visit. parking is easy around those back streets as well.

Does Charlton still have that Chinese takeaway round the corner from the away end? Haven't used it on my last one or two visits, but there's been a couple of evenings when it's been a god send.

Opposite the train station?

That's the only Chinese I can think of, The Dragon & Phoenix. If so, yes it's still there although despite going to The Valley for almost 25 years, I have never eaten from there.
