Good luck to him there. It won't be easy particularly with his background. Should get them back playing some good stuff again though.

Why would his background cause him problems?

He's from Northern Ireland and Celtic manager. Lennon had a lot of bother from idiots because of that (along with him being a toerag as well mind).

12 month rolling contract as well, makes sense for both parties that.

I think the difference will be that Rodgers comes from a Catholic background whilst Lennon was a Northern Irish Protestant managing Celtic. It's fucking pathetic tbh.

Agreed but there will inevitably still be neds out there who'll try to make something out of it.

Can see him doing well though he's up against a capable foe in Warburton.

The test will be getting them to do well in Europe which is Celtic's main downfall.....

It's a good job for him, and I think a good appointment for Celtic as well. It's a guaranteed league title for anyone, but I think he'll play good football and keep the fans happy. Their cup record is appalling for a side that spends more than the other 11 sides put together, so he can only improve there, and Celtic have been embarrassing in Europe for the last few years so there is quite a lot of room to improve.

Was found out a bit with Liverpool in Europe; let's see if he's learnt lessons from that experience.

But how far further will he drop after he fails at Celtic?

It's a good move for him. If he can claim a few big scalps in the CL then he can use that momentum to jump ship to a bigger club in the future. Shame he's such a cock..

Superb appointment for Celtic.

He could make a mark in Europe with Celtic.

What a fucking waste of his talent. I don't think this job benefits him in any way, he is expected to win everything so he won't get much credit if he succeeds. If Rangers close the gap or even dethrone Celtic during his tenure, it's a failure. He could have waited around for a good Premier League job, he is an excellent manager.

He's not half as good as he thinks he is. I do agree that there's not a lot to be gained from this job, though. What can he reasonably hope to learn in Scottish football? Would have been better for him to give Spain a crack IMHO.

I think this is a good move for both parties. Rodgers is a decent manager (probably be classed as really good in Scotland) and he'll get celtic playing good football. I have no doubts that Celtic will win the league next season (I could probably manage them to that) but his big test will be Europe. Will the Brendan Rodgers name and the chance of CL football attract the sort of calibre of footballer that Scotland hasnt seen for a long time and give Celtic a chance against the bigger European sides?

It's a great appointment for Celtic in my opinion, I know they are a huge club but I expected Rodgers to get another Premier League gig. Maybe he sees this as an easy chance to raise his stock again, a few easy titles and domestic trophies to get rid of the stigma of failing to win anything at Liverpool. Also with how poor Celtic have been in Europe recently he can only improve on it, the strange thing for me is the 12 month rolling deal though. Maybe shows Rodgers is only seeing this as a short term stop gap, or maybe the Celtic board don't see him as the man long term.

Rodgers has never won a trophy so it will help get him started on that count for the future. It's a 12 month rolling contract as well which enables Celtic to cut ties after a year if it doesn't go to plan and Rodgers freedom to move back to the PL if someone comes in for him.

I agree with the general consensus that this job doesn't really benefit Rodgers.

He's expected to win the league and domestic cups. Not much of an achievement if he does it, however a complete disaster if he doesn't manage it. The Celtic board have pulled off a major coup with this one.

Well losing to a bunch of part timers isn't a great start and suggests a lot of re-building it needed to be done!

Rodgers is such a bellend. Why keep Patrick Roberts out of an U19 tournament if you're not even going to use him against a load of part-timers?

Seems to think they will easily get though still.

Showing his arrogance a bit then.

With all the headlines about it being Celtics worst ever defeat I thought it was a bit OTT. That's because initially I thought it was a friendly. Terrible start for Bwendan. Are they all part time dentists? That might soften the blow a bit.

I think it's the other way around! Lennon is a Catholic, Rodgers is a Protestant. You can tell by their surnames, not that it matters.
Actually Rodgers has one Catholic parent and one Protestant parent.

You could be right, although im sure I've read Rodgers is Catholic. As you say though it really shouldn't matter.

The result is absolutely hilarious but the will smash them at Celtic Park. Bit of a shame it wasn't a straight knockout game.

Are the Red Imps now considered better than Lincoln City?
