Given Swindon are now the pre-requisite for having an individual match thread I thought I would start this one.

No real expectations on us for this game, Swindon are far and away the best team in the division, and are now brimming with talent, including 2 in 2 Hallam Hope who is guaranteed to score against us.

We can aim to give a good account of ourselves at least, and it would be just like us to nick an unlikely win, just as we did against the likes of Lincoln and Bury last season

We should have a decent number of players to select from, with Patrick being eligible and McKirdy back from injury, think just Mellish might still be injured. I'd maybe look to go with the following:

_____________________Collin______________________
G.Jones_____Hayden____Webster______Anderton
_____________M.Jones____Watt___________________
Thomas________________________________McKirdy
_____________Kayode____Alessandra_____________

Bench: Dewhurst, Hunt, Sagaf, Guy, Bridge, Patrick, Olomola

That sees Loft being the loanee to miss out, but that's maybe my own desire to see Olomola get a chance, I don't think Beech really favours him. Dewhurst may or may not be on the bench too. Not sure if he's been brought in to challenge for the number one jersey, to replace Gray, with a view to a permanent deal, or just as backup if Beech doesn't feel any of our own youth keepers are up to the task should a senior keeper pick up a knock.

I would just like to point out that Swindon have won every game this season when facing a bottom half team and Carlisle have lost to every team in the current top 8.

Yates is bound to score because he played for us last season.
Hope is bound to score because he played for us last month.
Doyle is bound to score because he nearly signed for us last week.

So if we can score 3 goals we might get a result. Can’t see it happening.

Carlisle 1-4 Swindon

You lot are well known for wrist slashing and predicting impending doom.

In this instance you are correct! You’ll get mullered! From what I remember about the game at the CG you are a very neat and tidy side with 2 very good winger types - caused us problems that day. Don’t think you are much of a lump it up side - which we have struggled against - so that’s a plus for us.

Be a good game, I reckon. I’ll go for a sneaky 1-2.

More like a sneaky 4-1 win for you leaving us huffing and puffing.

You have basically got two of our former forward players who tore this league to shreds last season when they were playing together and of course your 20+ goal a season striker who are hard to come by these days.

When we he was playing alongside good players last season he did.

Hope, Yates, Nadasan, Devitt, Sowerby.

So lethal.

Even then I don't think we were quite tearing this league to shreds, he was some distance off the top goalscorer charts at that stage.

Back on the subject of the weekend's game... I had a dream last night that the final score was Carlisle 7 - 4 Swindon

Definitely take that.

You must really love our club if you dream about us winning a L2 fixture 4 days before it kicks off.

As ID has already stated, the way Carlisle play should play into our hands (hopefully). I think it'll be a good football match with at least 3 goals. Hopefully we can get the majority of them!

Carlisle smashed us 4-1 so logic suggests they should beat Swindon because we drew with them. Lump on the home win.

Carlisle have made some good signings in January although not as good as Swindon's tbf. Swindon have probably done the best business of any club in the country. They are nailed on for the title.

So Swindon fans has your club invested a lot of money into your club recently or have you just been running things well for a change?

To be honest, nobody really knows, however we have cut our cloth since (fairly) recent financial issues and the current owner Lee Power is renowned for running a tight ship money wise.

That said, we did fairly recently receive a large sell on from Aden Flint and even more recently sold a 16 year old kid to Brighton for a rumoured 250k up front. Crowds are up due to our good season - on Saturday we had 13k+ which may have tempted Mr Power to open his wallet. I doubt wether this is a shit or bust situation knowing Power.

It appears as if the purse strings have been loosened a bit.

We have got rid of 2 high earners - Diagouraga and McGlashan - sold a youth teamer to Brighton for £275,000. I suspect some of next year’s budget had been spent in this season’s.

Power and the Supporters Trust have bought the ground off the council for £2m and he is trying for planning permission for a £6m training complex. An Aussie fella has bought 15% of the club so maybe that money may have gone towards player costs.

I very much doubt we’ve just chucked money at it as Power’s mantra from day one has been to make the club sustainable.

The rumour regarding Doyle is we paid circa £90,000 to Bradford and he has agreed to accept a large cut in his wages with the promise of a possible big payday come the end of the season if we fail to get promoted.

Don’t know what we paid for Hope. Caddis, Grant etc are probably on good wages.

Our bumper crowd last Saturday probably put £100,000 extra into the coffers. I suspect, if we do get promoted, the present squad wouldn’t change much in L1.

The rumour on our end is that he went for about 75k.

Which I'm glad we took since he was going to be out of contract in the summer and likely to leave for a higher division anyway.

I’d play Nick Anderton and the youngsters. Lightfoot in defence, Kyle Soper up front, Charters in midfield.

Seems a lot for a player nearing the end of his contract. Power must have won the lottery.

He would likely of signed on a free for a relegation avoiding L1 side, so could be worth it for you.

I take it he won’t get a warm welcome Saturday?

Well as long as he doesnt act like a disrespectful knob or anything, but even if he doesn't there will probably be some idiots (chav element) boo him just for the sake of it.

There are no hard feelings from when he left, it was kind of expected.

Or a calculated risk. Swindon look almost nailed on for promotion and all the financial rewards that come with that. Spending a bit of money now to make certain they don't fall at the final hurdle might seem like a no brainer.
