Ah good, 2 teams I know something about.

All eyes will be on Mo Salah ahead of this one. Nervous Liverpool fans, not to mention the entire country of Egypt will be focussed on his fitness heading into this big game. Even if he does play, it's hard to imagine he'll be fully fit, as he'll have had very little recovery time with it being just 3 weeks between his injury against Real Madrid and his first outing here.

To say they are a one man team is possibly understating it. Their current 28 man squad has 70 goals in it. Salah has 33 of them. If he isn't fit to play, they don't stand a chance.

But saying that, they are facing what I think is a Uruguay squad similarly powered by a world class striker. Yes, they have a solid defence in the likes of Godin and Cacerers, but without the magic of Suarez, they wouldn't be anywhere near as dangerous. Their hopes surely rest on him producing upfront, along with help from Cavani, who has disappointed every time I've seen him live.

You'd have to tip Uruguay to win this one, Salah or no Salah.

All match chat in here.

Serious question, do they offer anything in attack without Mo Salah there? Can see Uruguay winning this one.

Uruguay have got some good midfielders coming through, as well as having the Atletico defence and Suarez and Cavani up top. They are a quality side. Think they'll win this with or without Salah playing.

Personally think Uruguay will go deep into the tournament. Wouldn't rule them out of winning it either.

Early signs suggest both of these are considerably better than Saudi Arabia.

Its just as I feared. Uruguay deploying their shitty long ball tactics from the qualifiers. I get that historically thats how they like to play, but you could honestly do so much more with what you have.

Dire game so far.

Uruguay look terrible in midfield and Suarez doesn't look sharp either so far. Hope Salah comes on half time to liven things up a bit.

Both crumbling in the final third. Suarez has been particularly dreadful. Egypt look resilient, and would probably be quite dangerous with Salah included.

Keep in mind Uruguay are slow tournament starters.

2016 Copa America - 1-3 loss vs Mexico
2015 Copa America - 1-0 win vs Jamaica
2014 World Cup - 1-3 loss vs Costa Rica
2013 Confederations Cup - 1-2 loss vs Spain
2011 Copa America - 1-1 draw vs Peru
2010 World Cup - 0-0 draw vs France
2007 Copa America - 0-3 loss vs Peru
2004 Copa America - 2-2 draw vs Mexico
2002 World Cup - 1-2 loss vs Denmark.

Uruguay look like a side that do better when they're up against sides that try and attack them and leave space in behind. Struggling to break Egypt down.

Sad for Egypt, but still think they will qualify.

These two will make it through imo. Gutted for Egypt but everyone will lose to Uruguay in this group.

Can't see that though I'd rather them or Argentina win it over those arrogant Brazilians.

I’m in Cairo and watched it in a shisha cafe. They love their football here and I was gutted for them. There were actually blokes crying at the end. Deserved a draw, defended valiantly but obviously missing their talisman forward. Questions will be asked why he had no part to play.

They could go through, not a bad side but realistically need to beat both the Saudis (who are apparently a quality side) and the hosts to get through.

No one has sad they're quality, but they aren't as shit as so called experts like you claim having seen them once. Recently they've lost by 1 away to Italy and Germany, drawn with Ukraine and beaten Algeria. They also beat Japan in qualifying.

They aren't a pub side like Halteplool or whatever the team you support is called.

If you ever disagree with St. Juste I think the world might actually end

Uruguay always remind of the Italians, and not in a good way. Keep it tight at the back, then look to win the game right at the death, something the pasta lovers were famous for. Boring footy.

Now what can I say 'bout my adopted team? Hmm, dunno tbh. I can see why they didn't risk Salah in this one - he wouldn't have lasted more than 20 mins as the dirty Uruguayans sure know how to stop any half decent opposition player (by injuring him in case you were wondering). IMO, they need to stop this thing of overplaying the ball - I thought they were trying to emulate Barca at times - and pull the trigger much quicker.

As for the Saudis, no I don't think they're that bad actually, more like they had an off day. I thought their no. 5 was hilarious actually. I also reckon that FIFA standings don't really mean much. Russia are ranked 70th right? And yet the sides they met in the WC friendlies were mostly big names in footy so how does this ranking actually work I ask? Surely it's better to play the likes of Estonia and Belarus than say Brazil and France as far as FIFA ranking is concerned?

They’re indeed better than both us and your village team with one year of football league history and 1500 home fans. Must try harder.

I love this lower league bantz we can't do that in the Prem no more because there's like five of us so we have to play nice.

Support Forest Green. They need as many fans as possible to not look so awkwardly out of place in the football league.

Always bear in mind that some sides will win their first couple of games and top the group in the process, so there's every probability they'll play their second string side in their final group match. Why risk one of your star players getting himself injured or suspended for the knockout games.

That's the main reason I predicted Russia to make it at Egypt's expense. Uruguay will surely beat the Saudis so I don't think they'll risk playing their strongest side against the hosts.

This is a good point Russia really got lucky with this honest fair draw in their own world cup didn't they?

Just like every host then. Nothing wrong with that whatsoever. Hosts should get easier draws, it's better for the tournament if they do well.

Agreed. But then again so did England ;) Could be that Putin is a closet English fan after all!
