I think he sounded like a bit pathetic, sad and overly defensive. As Renegade said when I posted about this, his speech was a bit Benitez fachtesque.

I loved it. But for a different reason than you it seems.

But to suggest Manchester United have no heritage..? Whaaaaaat....? There are a number of definitions of "Heritage." One such definition goes like this: Denoting a traditional brand or product regarded as emblematic of fine craftsmanship.

I think Manchester United have that in spades. The Red Devils..... Best, Law, Charlton..... Busby Babes..... attacking football...... umpteen Premier League titles in this century....... Cantona.... two stoppage time goals to win the European Cup...... One of the biggest names in global football, nay, global SPORT.

Great players have always been attracted to the club, sometimes for no other reason than they're Manchester United. Even when their play is less than majestic, they're still.... .Manchester United.

That's heritage. And just because they're having a poor time of things right now wipes none of that away.

They're second best in Manchester... in England.... right now but there's no shame in being behind this Manchester City team. It's galling for their fans, that's a given, but they just have to be big and suck it up. United will rise again. Believe.

I think he's waffling. His team are under performing and he's under pressure because he doesn't know what to do about it. And as we all know, when the team plays badly, the buck stops with the Manager.

If you can't shape up, Jose, then ship out. Make way for somebody who will. But while you're there, you could at least try getting YOUR team... the team YOU'VE built to play like Manchester United. Tap into that heritage and at least try to look like Red Devils.

Yeah, he clearly didn't understand the word heritage in the sense you or I would use it Cornish. He wasn't talking about the history of the club, he was merely pointing to what he has inherited from the most recent managers in terms of personnel. It was weird to see Mourinho who generally has such a great command of the English language lost in translation somewhat.

As Pags said, this was discussed in the Champions League thread too. It did come across as too defensive, even though he raised a few fair points, it doesn't defend the pathetic display against Sevilla. He has inherited a much less stable, lower quality squad than Guardiola, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be taking care of an above average Sevilla team that is stuck 5th in La Liga and is relatively leaky in defence, whilst playing turgid football. It probably does mean that he shouldn't be expected to win Premier League and Champions League titles straight away simply because he's spent money, I agree with him on that.

Yes, Renegade.

But it must be recognized that this is an aspect of football that is underestimated.

Big clubs or those who spend a lot always have high expectations and few fans make more detailed evaluations.

About Mou, he started a path that last year exceeded expectations and this has generated even higher expectations for this season.

However I believe that mourinho is doing everything possible to create this football heritage.

Las year three titles, this year maybe second premier league place and .. at least semifinal of Fa Cup.
