ifollow, where does the money go?

I think this may be old ground, but. Doe's anyone have a link to where the money actually goes?

Tonight for instance I will pay £10:00 to watch Colchester v Grimsby Town. I am registered as a Grimsby Town supporter.

I am assuming both Colchester and Grimsby Town each get a bit, but how much each?

What is the split? What would the split have been if it was at Blundell Park?

According to our OS the club gets 80% of the amount purchased via iFollow Mariners.

Town supporters living in the UK can watch Tuesday's Sky Bet League Two clash with Colchester United live on iFollow Mariners.

Improvements to the streaming service have continued to be put into place for the 2019/20 season - including live replays. And don't forget - 80% of revenue from iFollow Mariners goes directly to your club.

Yes, there's usually more in it for the away side.

As an aside, when I was in California over Christmas and New Year in only cost $7:00 (about £5.40) to watch the games.

When it first came out, it was in favour of the home team but they changed it when Club's kicked up a fuss about how the money was distributed. Seem to recall the Accrington Chairman kicking off about it after on of their home games was re-arranged and they stood to lose money on the game. I think I'm correct in saying it's still at the home clubs discretion whether or not it's available on iFollow (we had a game earlier in the season where it wasn't shown).

We had a fans forum a month or so ago and our Chief Exec was saying we get a six-figure income a season through it now, which is higher than I thought we'd be getting from it.

Six figure income sound very high (good though), that's a lot of people watching at home, even over a season. I wonder what my club gets, around the same I'm guessing. Will have a look at our accounts next time they come out.

Our accounts only came out in December for year ending May 19, available on Companies House.

No specific mention of ifollow but Media turnover was 1.3m up just under 300k from the season before.

So, if 1000 Grimsby fans watched last night’s game via iFollow the club will receive £7000.

If 1000 Colchester fans also watched via iFollow they, too, will get £7000.

There is no split between home and away clubs - you just get the 70% of how many people watch through their own iFollow apps.

I have an iFollow season ticket - €130. Individual games are €6.

It’s better for the away sides which receive nothing from actual attendees. Be interesting to know what the actual numbers who do watch via iFollow are.

I didn't mean to imply that the away club gets a greater split than the home club. What I meant was that there's likely to be a bigger uptake from away fans as home fans will actually be going to the game.

The first time we had a Saturday match shown (because of this odd rule about Saturday matches being fair game if there's an international break) we were home to Notts County. They were publicising it all over the place whereas we barely mentioned it.

So, in effect, the away team is almost always going to get more income from individual games as more of their fans are going to watch via iFollow. But seeing as all teams play 23 away games it’s an level playing field.

Better than the away team receiving nowt from the actual attendance.

In the sense that they would, before iFollow, get nothing. At least now, depending on numbers of course, they may make a few quid.

The home team for the midweek games suffer as they’ll get 70% of £6 for those that choose not to attend and pay circa £20.
