I aren’t a fan of the competition in its current format but will always have a soft spot for it as I saw us win it in 2003 and a lot of my family were there when we won it in the 90’s. It’s a huge opportunity for lower league sides to get a day out at Wembley.

The only positive thing the kids sides bring is the extra cash for winning a game and progressing.. as I’m assuming the winnings were significantly less or non existent before.

Its the second of 4 consecutive away games in 10 days, and I'm hoping we rest a few. I won't be too bothered if we go out of this one, and saturdays game at Stevenage is the game to focus on followed by Morecambe. We should be looking for a maximum haul from those 2 games.

It’s frustrating really as a chance to get to Wembley and make even more cash if we win but it’s unfortunately come in the middle of something like 8 games in 3 and a half weeks and days after chasing world class players for 90 minutes so he has to rest certainly the midfield and Pope.

I’d have like to have been able to have a go as it’s such a winnable tie at Salford with the main XI. Hopefully shithouse through with the second XI and go from there.

Despite being the only side through so far and having beaten two top League One sides we are only 5th favourites according to bet 365. Man City kids are easily the favourite.
Lazy research or are they on to something?

Give players like Browne brisley conlon atkinson and Cullen a game. Not really bothered if we lose would rather us get 4 or 6 points from stevenage and morecambe away.

L2 reserves Vs Premier League reserves. Can't blame the journos for assuming Citeh would win.

6 changes, expected 9 or 10! Pope, Worrall, Taylor and Amoo not in the squad and Legge drops to the bench, Conlon, Cullen, Bennett, Atkinson, Brisley and Browne come in. Not bad that XI.

From 55000 at the Etihad to about 550 at Salford and our lads just look completely flat understandably.

Two absolutely shocking performances from the teams but Salford score a scrappy goal which pretty much sums up the game. Hard watch.

Worst half of football I’ve watched all season.

No one really stepping up to put pressure to get in the league XI based on that. Referee isn’t helping though as they are fouling us all the time and it’s so stop start.

Seen Shaun Harvey has been in the news today, received 500k from the EFL for his work. Don't know where else to put it but just wanted to say what a complete and utter c*** he is.

Well that was 90 minutes of my life I won’t get back. Angered that none of the fringe players have done anything to push for a spot with that effort tonight but seemed so flat after the excitement of the weekend so hopefully that’s the after Lord Mayors show out the way tonight rather than the league.

£40k in the bank at the end of the day. Does this tinpot cup take priority over league games. If so our rearranged game at Cheltenham will have to be rearranged again.

Newport terrified of playing at Whaddon Road this season - first calling a game off when a couple of reserves are called up for international duty and then going out to win the tinpot to avoid our rearranged game....

Salford vs Man City kids would be the dream final at Wembley for the EFL with it being filled with Class of 92 united fans and City in a Manq Derby.

They had something like 350 home fans there last night with their two first loves facing off a couple of miles down the road.

I noticed Pompey are through to the last 8 again. Undoubtedly another 30'000 plus would go to the final

What even if it was v Leicester u21's?

Leicester fans might get a Wembley final a few weeks before so that should deter them.

Bristol Rovers are the only ones likely to take a big following with Portsmouth you'd think so dare say that'll be the final.

If we got to the final (which I hope we dont,) I wouldn't even go despite living in London.

Easy to say that now. Guaranteed you would bring a lot if you got to the final against someone like Pompey or the Gas. And a lot of those are probably now saying they wouldn't go. Funny what a Wembley final does to principles.

We've been so many times in the past few years, I have no desire to go back. Crap, soulless ground. Even with 80k England fans in it the atmosphere is dire.

The atmosphere at England games is always dire. Should be at club grounds more often.

We've got a pretty much first team out tonight apart from a few injuries. Hurst is clearly taking this seriously as the rest of our season is going to be uneventful.

We won but I was really impressed with City's u21s, passed the ball incredibly but just couldn't seem to put it into the back of the net. We will definitely draw Portsmouth or Exeter away now
