For all the cash they’ve spent and rumoured £6k a week wages they are not that impressive.

Gibson - released by Wigan no club in 6 months

Wilson - Barely scores goals in the SPL which is two decent sides and the rest L2 level...

O Connor - decent at this level but has spent a lot of his career at this level.

Andrade - Half decent but again not really done anything higher.

Rooney - barely set the world on fire in L2

Hunter - ok defender at L1 level

Elliott - was ok in league one for AFCW but hardly stand out.

Not surprised about Rooney one bit, such a big leap in defenders between the divisions.

O’Connor is brilliant for this level though, he’s the sort of player many teams need.

With the size of their squad and the players they have brought in surely they must be above the FFP threshold? They get tiny crowds so its not like they generate a lot of revenue that way. I assume that they must have some huge sponsorship deals to help cover the cost?

Almost certainly their owners are using sponsorship etc to get around the FPP. Don't FGR do something similar? (Apologies FGR fans if this is wild). I don't know the FPP rules exactly and I don't know budgets etc but it does appear odd that Bradford City for example get crowds of 12-15k and Salford get crowds of 3k and appear to have a bigger budget? I'm sure the rules are such to try and get teams playing on an even playing field as much as possible but to allow sponsorship deals and clubs selling their stadia seems like loopholes that need to be tightened?

The difficulty with that is what is an acceptable value of a stadium? Derby, Villa, Sheff W all sold theirs for wildly different prices. I mean Everton sold the option to the naming rights of their new stadium... which has not got planning permission yet! I guess there are lots of ways around it.

Exactly right, which is why this practice needs to be nipped in the bud in my eyes.

I think Salford get round it through directors loans (they put a £2.5 Million or something in during the summer).

Really? How does that work?

because its income, and its not a loan so doesn't need to be paid back.

Fenty said just before Christmas that he would have to buy some more shares in Jan in order to sign some extra players in Jan otherwise it would have to be one in one out because of FPP rules as we spent all the budget in the summer.

Why do you think they have a bigger budget than Bradford? Highly unlikely IMO

Salford only charge a tenner too that said Bradford's season tickets work out at about 50p a game so income wont be as high as expected

I haven't done any massive research behind it so I could well be wrong. However pre-season they had Richie Towell on a reported 8k pw and the players they brought in, in January must surely be on a fair wedge. Darren Gibson almost certainly won't be on less than Towell for example.

Even Scunthorpe reckon they have the 2nd largest budget in the table (according to the Chairman) in 2017/2018 they spent £6.4m on wages for the entire club :bl:

I wouldn't be shocked if we do. We still have so many people on huge contracts from previous seasons and we can't shift them because of that. Colclough and McArdle are on a fair bit I know that. Novak and Lund were the only big earners we seemed to get rid of. Our budget will be a lot better next season as all of their contracts are running out this summer.

Luke Joyce is set to become the third Vale player out of contract in the summer to commit his future, he has triggered a year extension with 30 appearances this season and has no plans not to accept it.

Fears of an exodus over the summer have been eased abit this week!

Yes that’s what I heard. Mansfield are in no position to say anything, our budget is definitely one of the biggest in the division too.

We brought in Paul Mullin from Tranmere and Ben Coker from Southend on loan until the end of the season.
Coker was from us.

I think he's been a little unlucky here. I'm sure he'd have got more minutes had DC/NC still been around, but Coker's main problem was Toffolo who was a top L1 player. He'd have probably been ok for us as a back-up LB but I think he probably wanted to get out and play having only made one appearance in about 16 months due to doing his ACL at Southend and Appleton wanting younger, more mobile, athletic players. We didn't see much of him but I can't imagine his two bad injuries in the last three years (broken leg and ACL) will have helped in that respect.

For all the cash they’ve spent and rumoured £6k a week wages they are not that impressive.

Elliott - was ok in league one for AFCW but hardly stand out.
To be fair to O'Connor, he's spent most of his career in L1 with only one less season at Championship level than at L2.

John McAtee has interest from Newcastle. He's been a bright spark in a very poor season. He has the potential to go higher but don't think he's ready yet.

Anyone got a right back they can sack so we can sign them? They don’t need to be that good, just fit enough to run about and get in the way. We have none.

The Horse and Groom down our street have said that barman Dave is on his final warning...Jenny says he's 'fit', he's doesn't hang about when glass collecting and no one got past him when he was on the door on New Year's Eve... I'll lend him my shinnies if you want him?

Yeah that'll do. Tell him to get up to Oldham tomorrow and bring his boots.
