Takes the pressure off him a tad.

Watched him on Tuesday night and to be honest, struggled to get involved, although its unfair to judge a player based on early pre-season games.

Lots of scouts supposedly went and looked at him last season.

If he can rediscover his form from a couple of years ago, that's a very good signing

McGurk is a decent player and versatile which is always a bonus, obviously didn't work out for him at Pompey but a solid signing for this level still.

How's he fit in though? I assumed Cambridge would be going with Mingoia - Berry - Dunk as a three in behind the main striker (presumably Pigott until Corr is fit). Berry dropped deeper into central midfield? Pigott just a bench option with McGurk up top? Or even Dunk at left back again?

Dunk is wasted at left back and I expect us to bring another fullback in before the season starts. Derry has said he wants a squad of players that can change games from the bench as well as the starting 11. Last season we didn't really have a strong bench so he's certainly recruited in the attacking line to ensure we can turn games after 60 mins if its not going our way.

I suspect we'll line up something like this but I can't tell you who will be a starting striker whilst Corr is injured. Williamson has struggled for goals in pre-season where Pigott has been very very good.

Norris
Taylor - Legge - Coulson - Adams
Dunne - Clark
Mingoia - Berry - Dunk
Williamson

Subs - Pigott, McGurk, Elito, Maris, Dallison, Gregory (gk), Newton

Danny was with us last season before Wigan came in for him. At Conference level he was a cracking midfielder who was calm on the ball and had the ability to pass the ball around nicely. He'll easily make the step up to L2.

Looks a pretty decent side to me, like the look of that mdifield 3 of Mingoia, Berry and Dunk. I think dunk in particular is a pretty underated player at this level. I wasn't his biggest fan but I think now he is settled with a club, Pigott will get you goals. Wouldnt surprise me if he is your main forward option by the end of the season.

Dunk was player of the year the season before last and would have won it again this season had it not been for Leon Legge. Massively underrated and I was mightily relieved when he signed a new deal this summer. He guarantee's you 8+ assists a season and will chip in with a few goals too.

I'm liking the look of us going forward, we just need to sign another fullback and move a few out and we should be done for our business.

And yet he's ended up with you, half way through summer and having had to go on trial first - isn't that more of a bad sign? i.e. if he was any good one of said scouts would've had him signed earlier.

Michael Raynes linked :shut:
How strongly/reliably linked? He certainly won't be first choice for us, I should think he'll be competing with Atkinson for third choice, so if he's more chance of game time with you it'd make sense I guess. He's just finished a degree at a university near where he lives (can't remember which off the top of my head) so may feel now's a good time to move elsewhere.

Never cut it here. Went missing in too many games and given how much we've strengthened, he was never getting a game with us.

I wonder if there's a gentleman's agreement to prevent him playing against us this season?

Bloke on the forum from Twitter or something, not a reliable source. Really don't want him, unless I'm really mistaken he's essentially a big lump. Committed but no real footballing ability.

If so then I hope we do an Accrington to piss off that cock nose Cook. Did you play him as an attacking midfielder or striker?

He wouldn't be a terrible signing, he was actually better than I was expecting when he joined. I doubt he'd be first choice for Orient, and he'll probably be back-up for us.

I'd like to keep him personally, but wouldn't be a huge loss.

Attacking midfielder Nick Freeman signs from Histon. Decent scoring record and has apparently looked a good prospect in a few friendlies for us where he was on trial.

Taking a punt on non-league hopefuls is not a bad option when the finances aren't great, so let's hope Freeman can make the step up to the Football League.

Both. He excelled at neither.

I'd be surprised if he chose Williamson over Piggott

Which is a shame as Atkinson and Raynes are both better than Ellis.

I like McGurk. Very talented footballer, surprised it never really worked out for him at Pompey. Major issue for him is his scoring record for a forward it's not great

Remember I said we're after a centre half? Well, it looks like we've bid for Carlisle Michael Raynes, according to the internet anyway. Would be happy enough with him as a squad player.

EDIT: Looks to be a load of nonsense!

For the second summer in succession Cambridge have been right up there with the more impressive signings. I imagine that they have become one of the divisions better wage payers and will begin to want to see a return.

I'd expect them to be top three this season, anything less than top seven for Derry would be failure.

Excited by Kayden Jackson signing. Was the fastest player at Oakwell this summer so he's ridiculously fast if nothing else!
