Pep Guardiola and Zinedine Zidane done alright tbf, plus your forgetting Dave Hockaday was an academy manager that went on to be a half decent.....oh.

The only one I think of is Nigel Adkins for a while. Even then I’m sure he was a physio or something

Nigel Adkins had actually played as a goalkeeper (for us, Wigan and others) but our former physio and then manager, Les Parry, had no playing experience or coaching qualifications whatsoever.

It showed in the quality of the football we played under him, which was truly dire, but he did manage to keep us in League One on a shoestring budget for a couple of years.

In 1983 we appointed a coach as manager as we lounged at the bottom end of the EFL in dire straights... in the following 16 years we ended up spending much of the 90s in the second tier, nearly made the play offs for the Premiership, ruled the city ahead of our hated bigger rivals, had numerous giant killings and cup runs and went to Wembley for the first time... followed quickly by the second and third time... not to mention had some of the greatest sides in the clubs history with the likes of Steve Guppy, Robbie Earle, Gareth Ainsworth, Jon McCarthy, Ian Bogie, Tony Naylor, Ian Taylor etc etc etc... he had a tribute night last week with Sir Alex sending him a video message (he was furious when he was harshly sacked).

Never know, probably more chance gambling on this chap than the same old lower league plodders like Martin Allen, Graham Westley etc.

So Humberside commentator John Tondeur who was in the room with Jolley says there was around 10 others in there including other journalists and club officials. Humberside didn't make the recording and neither Dean or Tondeur complained to the club. He doesn't know who leaked the recording.

It was literally two mins after the final whistle against Orient, as Jolley went straight there, and was obviously upset at the result.

JT wasnt happy with the criticism of him or Dean but spoke to Jolley a week later and had a good chat and left on good terms. Doesn't think Jolley should have been sacked from that incident alone. (Bear he mind he wasn't sacked, he quit before the disciplinary hearing).

Big thing though is for the first time JT his questioning whether he should continue as commentator for GTFC.

Grimsby fans I see Chris Hargreaves is very much high up on the new manager poll -- Could do a lot worse. Done well with our Acadamy/23's squad. Would be a great loss but deserves to get a head coach/manager roll in the FL>

Going the other way around, Paul Simpson managed us to the Conference playoffs and League Two title before his career faltered at the higher level. Then he went into youth management and won the U-20 world cup as England manager.

Anyway, this talk about Grimsby possibly appointing someone with a background in youth team coaching, that's exactly what we've done with Chris Beech who started out coaching youngsters, so we'll see how he does in his first permanent senior management position.

Pete Wild is another, though it remains to be seen how successful he can be, but this time last year he was a coach in Oldham's youth system.

At a much higher level, I notice Freddie Ljungberg and Steve Bould swapped jobs this summer, with Ljungberg moving from academy manager to assistant manager at Arsenal and Bould going the other way. If Arsenal fans get their way then Ljungberg may get the opportunity this season to stake a claim for the managerial role, even if just in a caretaker position being a caretaker manager of a Premier League team can be a big springboard.

Won't have been outside the top 3 or 4 clubs budget wise though I wouldn't have thought, not saying he didn't do a good job, but having a good budget helps.

Sticking my head above the parapet...the big budget he had in the League 2 promotion season was largely generated from player sales which Jones actually helped develop in the first place.

The summer before Marriott, Vassell, McGeehan as well as quite a few youth players for big money all sold in the summer before the promotion. He managed to replace those players (2 of which were the main goal scorers the season prior) and build the side he wanted without spending all of that money which in turn helped us in League 1. Now we definitely had one of the best budgets in the league before that anyway (not that it helped John Still) but its a little harsh to hold the budget of that season against him when he played a very large part in creating it by developing the players to sell on!

League 1 I think we probably started off with a budget around 6/7th until January when we really went for it by signing a few like Moncur, and keeping hold of the fullbacks, still lower than the likes of Barnsley, Sunderland, Pompey, Peterborough and certainly not title winning, but by then he was gone anyway.

Stoke was the wrong move for him, i think he was probably the only person around who couldnt see that but, hes an excellent manager, which you probably wont hear many other Luton fans say

Like I said, I'm not saying he didn't do a good job, but the budget certainly helps whether he help create it or not. How many of these coaches that were youth coaches first come into a job and have a massive budget?

Money isn't everything as Mansfield and the opposite way Accrington have proved but nobody can deny that being able to spend more should make it easier to have success than not having that money.

One win in fourteen league names (or something) and a bit of fan aggro against the owner after Saturdays loss in the fa cup meant he was on borrowed time. I was surprised about have little time he was given.

No clue as yet as to who we are thinking of appointing. Craig Brewster is at Horsham as a dof. I don't think John Yems has a job at the moment (ex Bournemouth first team coach and ex coach at Crawley).

As I've learned. Expect an odd appointment .

John Yems appointed head coach. Only given a contract until the end of the season which I (imho) think is strange.

Dannie Bulman added to the management team but still to continue playing (almost ever present this season) and Edu Rubio remains as first team coach.

For those who have not heard of him. Yems is localish to Crawley, he had temporary charge here when we were in the conference. Went to Exeter under Tisdale then to Bournemouth under Eddie Howe in league one and helped in their rise to the Premier league. Undoubtedly a good coach with lots of friends/ contacts in the game.

As always a coach to management change can catch people out but I wish him well. I can't see too many fans bemoaning his appointment as he has kept in touch with the club over the years. I don't see many transfers in or out (money!) but we need a left back and soon.

Lee Bradbury appointed first team coach. An up and coming coach I says on our official site(!).

Been round the block has our Lee but again localish and out of work. He was last at Eastbourne Borough (one of the biggish non league clubs round here) who let him go because the money ran out.

Keep until Boxing Day and re-assess the situation, and if you then can’t beat a team like Grimsby then it really is time for him to go.

So many games I’ve already committed to going to before Grimsby I’ll probably give up before that game. I was hoping they put a arsenic capsule underneath my seat on Saturday.

Best thing about working 12 hour nights is that I have an excuse not to go to half our games, when I first switched to this shift I thought that would be the worst part of it but at the minute it’s a blessing, thankfully I missed Saturdays amazing performance from us.
