Chesterfield 7/1
Notts county 7/1
Wrexham 10/1
Barnet 12/1
Us 12/1
Harrogate 14/1
Stockport 14/1
Solihull 16/1
Yeovil 16/1
Bromley 20/1
Dagenham 20/1
Sutton 20/1
Torquay 20/1
Dover 25/1
Eastleigh 25/1
Ebbsfleet 25/1
Hartlepool 25/1
Barrow 28/1
Chorley 33/1
B wood 40/1
Gateshead 40/1
Massivefax 40/1
Woking 40/1
Maidenhead 50/1

Early thoughts, solihull are bromley are a fantastic price. Thought they would be shorter. Think stockport are too short as well, they've lost their best player. Think harrogate will be top 3 also

So in other words, the bookies have us as one of the favourites to go down. We kept 20 clean sheets last season... We've kept the core of our squad. If we can strengthen further up the field we could be a surprise package. Just shows how much the bookies know. Especially considering no one has a finalised squad yet.

pretty much the same as us 28-1 after finishing last season in the top half and keeping the majority of the squad - a couple of good signing away from a serious play-off chance.

Dover at 25s each way is a shout after the way they recovered from relegation certainties last season

Can anyone remember what price Salford were at the start of last season?

I thought you looked handy when we played you at our place early in the season. Taylor, in particular, stood out in that holding role. Just seemed to lack the killer edge in the final third but maybe that was a one off? Fancy you to do well again next season

From the strength of the sides promoted and the established names dropping down, this division (on paper) looks like it'll be stronger next season. I think Barrow will have a stronger squad, and probably improve our home record, but mid-table seems most realistic to me. I don't think the likes of Harrogate will do as well, and most teams will have figured out Solihull. Got to look at Chesterfield and Notts County as contenders.

Who'd struggled for form for the final third of the season, to such an extent many of us questioned his place in the side. Plus we've already got a couple of quality no.10s as backup... they don't share Warburton's sheer quality, of course, but many of us would've been more gutted to lose Keane or Palmer, both of whom are perhaps even more vital.

Agreed. Despite being top scorer I'm not sure he was head and shoulders above the rest for the reasons you state. Palmer was my POTS.

Plus, if we only lose one player from a championship winning side Id say that's reason to be confident rather than worried. If three or four end up going that's when I'd be getting worried (depending on who).

Liked the way you went about your football last season. If you stick to that concept and add a little grit plus a few more goals into the mix, I expect you’ll be a danger.
Watching your signings with interest.

It was a few seasons ago now, but when we came up with a very good Conference North team, we were confident. Started the season with much the same team and quickly realised there is a big difference in standards. I'm sure your team is probably 50% there, but you'll need some quality additions to really make an impact.

I'm confident there will be one or two recognisable names coming in and one of those will probably be a centre forward - whoever that is, they'll probably be the key to our success or failure this season.

Poor Maidenhead, worse odds than a Gateshead side with soon to be zero players, no stadium or fans.

No surprise when your budget is mid table NL South.

This season will be our toughest so far at this level having lost Clifton and with a stronger division this year, and we will have a real fight to stay up unless we can make some quality signings, however barring a takeover at Gateshead I will be shocked if we finish below them.

Mike Fondop-Talom returning to Wrexham will ruin you. Best striker in this division...

in august.

No real value there IMO. Not like Orient last season at 12's, which was ridiculous.

In hindsight yeah.

Leicester's 5000/1 looked a cracking punt too in 2015/16.
Not in hindsight. I, and others, said at the time that Orient at 12/1 were stupid odds and stuck out like a sore thumb. Especially as they had Edinburgh, a solid NL manager who'd been there and done it in similar fashion with Newport (and success at Rushden) and a decent sized club for the league who could attract and pay better than others.

Pat yourself on the back then as that was a good call.

Salford were spending ridiculous money, had a manager who also had success in this league and were rightly favourites at around 4/1. Their low odds allowed the likes of Orient to drift out. Bookies are also going to back big sides coming down so Chesterfield's low odds were a given.

From what I can see Graham Alexander had never managed in this league before.

Oops. Proven record above then.

A promotion from that level with a team as tinpot as Fleetwood is an achievement with ffp in place.

I'd look at who Sheridan manages to bring in before I'd say we were favourites. I reckon his initial targets won't want to drop to non league and we don't have the financial clout to tempt them

I'm not making the Orient comments off the back of them winning, just that Orient's were too long at the time and didn't make sense.

The top 4 last season initially were:

Chesterfield - 6/1
Orient - 10/1
Salford - 10/1
Wrexham - 10/1

Bookies were hardly a million miles out were they considering that was 3 of the top 4 teams.

Not sure about Challinor's promotions from the pub leagues with FLYDE.

Did well with Colwyn Bay but that was only because they were Going For It™ at the time as well.

Ah good, joint favourites with our local rivals to win the league. Just like we were this season.

Stockport willl win it.

Don't back Notts with those ods. Not many bounce straight back up and we're in no shape to even start the season.
Chesterfield finished pretty strong and will strengthen, have a proven manager and resources.
No reason to think Fylde won't be far away again and Barnet are competitive.
For outsiders I'd pick Halifax and Stockport , I don't think Wrexham and Solihull will get higher than play offs.
Having said that my actual knowledge and experience of the National league is confined to a couple of punts on Sky bet accumulators and looking at the tables.

biggest value is Barrow at 28/1 - completely new team and manager last season and were 3 points off 8th place - back them to get into the play offs when the odds for that come out

Thought I'd read somewhere that Lynch was off. Surely it's time for Rowe to play in the football league too. Get rid of them two and they'd be a midtable side I'd guess
