Their wage bill is absolutely huge. Do not trust them. Typical ex admin club. Why did they not spend all this money last year? Why are they all of a sudden spending it now? Their fans should be asking the question.

Going by the players in their squad, fucking huge. What do you reckon danny mayor is on? 500 quid a week?

Clearly not. Why would i have figures? You think I'm on their board? Doesn't take a genius to know they have a huge wage bill. Look at their gaffer. Look at their squad. They don't get paid pittance, quite clearly. And like bury, they have past for overspending. It will all end in tears. Again.

So who's Danny Mayor supposed to play for if his mere presence in a squad in the bottom two divisions is proof that team is overspending?

Danny Mayor was but merely an example of one of many players in the Plymouth squad that, along with their manager, would demand a hefty wage to play for an ex cash strapped, debt ridden club at the arse end of the country that, much like Bury last season, have decided to chuck money at the league with nobody batting an eyelid.

They currently are not self sustainable, with Simon Hallett having provided £3 million in the summer in terms of shares, to help cover losses from last year. Their spending is essentially funded by one man and his wife. Granted, they are Plymouth fans, so maybe they will stick around for the long haul, but if they don't, then it will all end in tears. This has literally happened so many times before at so many different clubs, including Plymouth. Questions need asking before the proverbial hits the fan.

To some extent you could say the same about us. We’ve spent way more this season than previously.

But that’s down to a new investor who has bought 15% of the club and has made money available.

Maybe the same at Plymouth. So unless you know the ins and outs of other club’s business it’s probably better to keep schtum.

There are a few clubs that are funded but wealthy fan-owners - Mansfield for one in our league with the Radfords. Good luck to them, I say. It’s probably what most fans dream of.

Surely the days are now gone where fans dream of wealthy owners coming in and single handedly funding their club? It nearly always ends in tears. The examples of shit hitting the fan are countless. In 10, 15, 20 years time, do you really think the Radford's will still be at Mansfield? Maybe they will. Maybe the Pallett's will still be at Plymouth. Or maybe, like history suggests, at some point, it will turn sour.

Don’t know the ins and outs of their finances but if he has funded that with a share issue I don’t see what the problem is. The problem Bury had was they were mortgaged up to the eyeballs. I’d also say Plymouth have probably one of the higher levels of revenue through gate receipts etc.

Okay i am going to bite. Other than Mayor who are these high earners? And where is your evidence? Last year we had three at his level (two of which probably earnt more than Danny). We have shipped out more players than we have bought in, and we are making much more use of our own youngsters. The general belief among fans based on what the owner has said in a very explicit session is that our budget is smaller because our income is. What Lowe seems to have done is offer lots of incentives, so if we do well, yes the bill will go up but then so will the income.

The £3m was equity from Hallett. More importantly it has not gone primarily on the team, rather it has specifically been targeted at precisely those things that bring in income, and are designed to make us sustainable. Yes, Hallett has said he has put some money (but it is I think less each year) in because we are not yet fully sustainable yet, but his prime goal is to make us sustainable. Each year we have been getting closer, not further away from that goal. He has said he is 64 and mortal, what he is interested in is our future after he has gone.

I note that we had 11,400 for a Tuesday night game a few weeks ago, I am not sure how many other teams in league 2 could do this.

So yes, everyone in the lower leagues needs to be fiscally cautious but i believe that we are going in the right direction not as the OP suggests. Indeed, I think because of sustainability our cap is League 1, we will struggle to generate enough to stay in the Championship for any length of time.

Absolutely no evidence whatsoever, just guess work looking at the squad. Mayor, Cooper, Moore, Taylor will all be on north of 3k. Mayor will be on mega bucks. He could have easily signed league 1, yet chose to relocate to the other end of the country and drop a league. Again, that's guesswork, but it's fairly logical.

Hope it works out. This is lower league football though, and I don't trust anything about it any more.

Mayor probably is earning mega-bucks for league 2, but as i said it is almost certainly earning less than two of last years players, and about the same as a third. Cooper is a loan and i believe we are paying 30% of whatever he was on at Posh. By the way, it would not surprise me at all if Lowe is on less than Adams was at the end - he had been at Home Park four years and was supremo in charge of everything.

Our manager and owner has been fairly open, so while there has to be some guesswork, we have been given an awful lot of detail. I get your basic point about caution, but i don't many greens have alarm bells going off yet. And we are now highly sensitive to anything that is going wrong. rather, we are enjoying watching the football.

I actually said wealthy owners who also happen to be fans - like Lansdowne at Bristol City. Some fans at our level like to imagine that one day they’ll be competitive in the Championship. Most, like Crewe have always done, is once in a generation they’ll produce a handful of home grown players that will see them into L1, then sell them and return to L2 and start the cycle over again. Nothing wrong with that.

The £500k for Ladapo could cover a fair bit of wages couldn't it?

Yes, take out the 150k to cover Aimson and Lowe and there is still a chunk left, plus his salary.

Dammy Mayor was NOT on megga money last season, not on bad money either.
Burys stupid spending came in the seasons PRIOR to last season and last seasons wage bill was supposed to be a whole lot lower than the squads that only got us relegated.

Hopefully Plymouth get themselves up into the Championship fairly soon.

Would be two typically lively fixtures in the league to look forward to.

We got 500k for Ladapo. We lost Carey who was on very good money. Our owner has a lot of money and is a big PAFC fan himself. We’ve just funded for a new grandstand.

Know your facts before going and criticising a club. We are very well ran and we are a club on the up.
