Don’t think Mansfield will go down but this argument that they “have the players” makes me chuckle... everyone was saying the same about Notts County! (All be it Mansfield are not quite in that level of mess at the minute)

Once low confidence or poor management has rooted in then it can be terminal regardless.

Anything HG can use to argue why carlisle will go down over someone else is a valid argument

For anyone thinking ‘overreaction’

24th in form table, 24th home form in the entire league - this isn’t hellogregory stuff.
We’re bottom over the last six games and teams are beating us who are on horrific runs:
- Walsall 6 defeats in a row, then beat us
- Orient no wins in 8, then beat us
- Mansfield no wins in 9, then beat us
- Macclesfield no wins in 9, then beat us
- Stevenage no away wins all season (13 games), only 6 away goals in that period, then beat us 4-0.

We are fortunate that we have a cushion at the moment - if we were six points further back then we’d be in big trouble. But if you saw today then you’d realise we are probably the worst side in the league at the moment in terms of ability and attitude.

I’m racking my brain but I can say for sure it’s definitely among the worst five performances I’ve seen us put in in 25 years of watching us and believe me there are plenty of other candidates.

but you have the players. They are badly performing yes, but you at least have the hope they’ll play to even 50% of their capabilities sooner or later which will see you ok. Maynard or someone will go through a purple patch at some point which will win you games. It is and will end up being a shit season for you, but no way will you finish bottom. No chance.

We on the other hand, have a squad of shit players with no decent track records that pretty much all need replaced this month. We’ve brought 4 in so far but we need 3 or 4 more and they need to be good. Then the new players will have to hit the ground running just to stand a chance of turning things round.

Whereas I get your point, you saying we’ve got the players is like saying the french army has the numbers, it’s not really useful.

We’re in all sorts of bother

I think one team having better players than the other team is a fair enough valid argument to why the other team will go down.

As I keep saying, we have an opportunity to stay up, but we have to sign better quality players than the relegation standard 2 wins in almost 4 months shower of shite we currently have.

Mansfield are really good in reality, they played well at Swindon earlier in the season.

I feel we've slipped under the radar here on this, our owners and Martin Ling have buried their heads in the sand these last 3 months - saying we're not in a relegation battle and that this squad we have is good enough.

1 win in 16 games later says otherwise, our boards decision making has been seriously poor this season, there is only so far I can defend them because of last summers tragic events.

We've got one of the worst defences in the league, our out of possession structure is really lacking and disorganised and now we're struggling to put chances away.

Ross Embleton should never have been hired and now he is carrying the can for our boards poor decision making, because if results don't improve he will be sacked as well (could well be after 29 days) and then we find ourselves once again back at square one.

I've heard that one of owners - Kent Teague wanted an experienced manager in but got overuled by the rest of our board who wanted Ross to take it, even though it doesn't take a genius to work out what the problem is.

Make no mistake about it, we're in a right state at the moment.

Also Cambridge United are playing a very iffy game themselves here.............They've been beaten and been 3-0 down to ourselves and Stevenage in the last few weeks!

It's interesting stuff, so many teams and their owners seem to want that elusive last slot into oblivion. Maybe it looks good on your CV: 'Managed to get relegated above all the odds' or something like that.

I really have no idea which club will eventually secure the 24th position but so, so pleased my beloved Grimsby Town now seem safer than six weeks ago. I am not stupid enough to think Ian Holloway is 'the new Messiah', I've followed enough of those over the years to realize there is no such thing, but he has been a breath of fresh air and appears to be getting us on an even keel. Time will tell.

I think GTFC can officially be removed from this thread!

PS. Will review that removal after the Easter games.

4 of our next 5 games are against teams in the top half, including 1st placed Swindon and 7th places Cheltenham.

We could be in serious shit after that run of games.

FAO Orient fans - you sure you want to stick with Embleton? Some great deals right now at the club shop, like Colin Calderwood at 90% off and what more, you also get his two assistants throw in for free. It's almost too good to be true if you ask me.

But do take note that a highly competitive playing budget is a must if you do take him off our hands. Give him a mid table budget and he'll flop.

None of us want to stick with Embleton. Appointing him was a fucking joke. Our budget is probably top 8, so Calderwood would be happy enough. Best mates with Ling, so I’d be completely unsurprised to see it happen in the future. We’ll be garbage for years.

Whats the beef with Cambridge? They seemed happy a few weeks ago, Beat Exeter 4-0 at home and then lose 0-4 to Stevenage at home! Crazy inconsistency there!

We're quite good at helping teams who have a similar record like yours before we play them to get a positive result, tomorrow night may be the night that we decide to assist you...:dk:

Story of our season up to Christmas tbh though I sense we could be on for more of the latter if we don’t make big changes soon. We’ve really collapsed since Christmas with rumours of dressing room unrest too. We’re fortunate we’ve got a buffer (and therefore time) to change things but more worryingly I don’t think anything will change. We’re not too far clear to go down.

Top 8 budget? You really are underachieving then.

Truthfully the only teams in this thread now are Morecambe, Stevenage, Carlisle, Macclesfield and Orient. I would be very surprised if the bottom team come May isn't one of those five.

Not really. Lost two of our three best players in the summer without replacing them; the other one has been injured all season. Plus losing Edinburgh and all the repercussions from that (including re-signing some of the deadwood for sentimental reasons). I’d’ve taken 22nd before Bury went pop.

Mansfield are by far the biggest underachievers this season, it’s not even close. Going purely on budgets anyway.

If you take in to account we spent half the season with somebody pretending to be a football manager then it’s about right.

Salford?

This season has seen a hell of a lot of money spent on being mediocre, no wonder we're struggling.

They didn’t go mad in the summer but they spent more than most in the past two seasons anyway!

We only added about 5/6 players but that includes Maynard and Cook who we spent six figures on.

Does the figure for Maynard include flights to/from Faro and a calculated portion for business use of the tax on the Radford's Algarve villa?
