Charlton didn't even play in their own ground in the top flight in the 1980s and Wimbledon didn't in the 90s!

So, a question from someone who's club has moved/been stolen (delete as appropriate) from another city, when does it not become acceptable to move, ie, if Coventry were to have a permanent arrangement with Birmingham to stay at St. Andrews, doesn't that mean they are doing exactly what Wimbledon did, move Citys?

I'm not trying to reopen the Wimbledon/MK debate, just interested in what fans, especially Coventry fans, regard as acceptable and what isn't. Also considering the EFL have said they wouldn't let the MK situation repeat itself, what has been put in place to stop that.

I believe Gillingham explored the possibility of a move to Gravesend sometime in the 2000s when the Ebbsfleet International development was a thing. The FA and FL said it was illegal as the rules had changed after the MK debacle so you're correct there.

I took the time to look into this myself a few years back. And what I found was there was a long history of the town of Milton Keynes courting clubs. And we have to remember football was very different when MK (the town) came into existence. Crowds were down, stadiums were decaying. MK courted Luton and Charlton at various points in the 70s and 80s. Wimbledon explored the possibility of moving to Dublin in the 90s before moving to MK in the 2000s. Wimbledon struggled to get their own ground in London, MK welcomed them with open arms. It might not be right, it's definitely controversial, but that's the way I see it.

I'm not as partisan as most football fans when it comes to the MK argument. Give it 10 years and you'll have a whole generation of football fans who'd consider MK to be part of the Football League furniture. Just like 90s lads like myself consider Wigan, Wycombe and Cheltenham to be part of it despite them being traditional non league clubs in a historic sense. Wimbledon had been groundsharing for over a decade. According to EFL rules now, there's a 4 or 5 year limit on groundsharing out of your town or local council boundaries? Coventry have another 2 years at St Andrews with a break clause in each year, but beyond 2022 you'd assume that they'd have to make provisions to either move back to the Ricoh or build a new stadium in their own city again.

There is no appetite for a permanent Coventry City residence in Birmingham from whichever way you look at it. That's why I don't think it'll ever be allowed beyond the stated EFL legislation.

Of course. It is in nobodies interests. But the situation needs to be resolved one way or another. A lot of clubs, especially in the Championship are built on sand - Coventry at the moment are no different. I appreciate that Cov supporters like the situation clearly a lot less than myself, but football has to start getting a grip.

The point is that if the (temporary) move was deemed ok by the EFL last summer, why wouldn't it be allowed this year?

They aren't the first club to groundshare, Fulham, Charlton, Brighton and Wimbledon all did before. Plus Rotherham played in Sheffield and Spurs used Wembley.

We were forced out of Millmoor in 2008 but were only given 4 years to be back playing in Rotherham.

If Tranmere and/or Peterborough take legal action, a move which could cause a lot of problems and possibly send a few clubs to the wall, then if the action fails then not only should they pay both sides costs plus compensation, but imo a vote should also take place on whether to terminate both clubs EFL membership.
Chris, your standards are slipping. What happened to you, a once proud and dignified spreader of bollocks, hyperbole and lies, now reduced to this?

MacAnthony really is an arse isn't he... but that said, what is different here than how they normally operate as a club?

I’m calling next season the Vengeance Tour. We will have the largest chip ever seen on a shoulder. We will get a promotion push going. We know the players we want to sign and we know the players we will allow to go.

We need them to tell the clubs when we will start the new season and when we will know the fixtures. We can’t have any more of this voting nonsense. We cannot have clubs not wanting to play because they can’t have fans in the stadium. The EFL need to lead.

It'd be nice to see how they're going to finance their squad (albeit the pitiful attendances they get for the supposed size of club they proclaim to be.

Where did you find that? Perhaps DMAC is going into the music business as a duet with Barry Fry and named it the Vengeance Tour?

You'd think his side were 30 points clear at the top and the EFL have null and voided the season, if that had happened, no probs, I'd probably even buy a vengeance tour pin badge. As it isn't he needs some time off from the utter rubbish he has spouted, calm down and spend another load of money.

They do seem to flatter to deceive. With the players - and fees received - that have passed through the club they should really be higher up the food chain. In some ways they are a slightly bigger Fleetwood/Burton

This was in a local paper earlier today. When you have your own podcast as a chairman rather than as fans or players themselves, it says a lot about the person.

If only words could win promotion. As far as I'm aware, winning games and Excel spreadsheet are the only recognised methods!
Look forward to seeing him and Tubbs at Lincoln next season. Maybe the Vengeance tour will enable them to beat us next time around :D

Just to pick up on something here - Coventry haven't even got a bloody ground! When we had to fight for our golden share back 12 years ago and as a result get a 20 point deduction, we had to have a 10 year lease on a stadium.

Now to be fair, they have an agreement with Birmingham many miles away, but that is clearly not a sustainable arrangement.

Should Coventry really be candidates for promotion in any circumstance considering their off field position?
Don’t you think the Coventry fans have suffered enough?
The last few years they have shafted by their owners, the local council and the egg chasers from London.
Now you want to take away their first promotion since God was a boy.

Have a heart man!

And they'll still finish just short of the playoffs for the SEVENTH consecutive season...

Because they don't know what squad continuity is. They play real life football manager with players. If promotion isn't delivered after a year he rips it up and starts again.

You’ve said this a few times now, but I have zero recollection of that ever happening. Perhaps the other Gills fans can say if it did?

I do get bored of hearing the words “the fans have suffered enough.” Every clubs fans suffer - clubs are business and the players themselves aren’t playing for charity. Like in this scenario, every club votes for their own self interest (it’s their prerogative), not based on empathy and history. I raised the Coventry point because football needs to start looking at itself in the mirror and get a grip with financial regulations.

The Championship is a monstrous division these days. It is full of clubs with no foundation or one that is built on sand.

If I remember correctly scally did briefly look at building a new stadium to share with ebbsfleet, but both clubs couldn't decide on the location so it was dropped pretty quickly.

And you're still coming straight back down to league 2 however much you embarrassingly try and weasel your way out of it.

Confirmed PPG as voted on by the EFL if fixtures can't be played. Max 4 teams in the play offs. Promotion & relegation retained.

Clubs in L1 & L2 will meet today to formally determine whether to resume playing the 19/20 season or finish with PPG.

No surprise.

None of the other proposals got any support from the Championship either.

Common sense has won. Not sure why Tranmere fans are having a go at our owner, wasn't his decision and he's not the reason you were shit this season, he's just reporting it. Total lack of class from some of them.

you really are a class act aren’t you. Just like anything else about your tiny little club starting at the owner and all the way down to fans like you. Getting off on a massive injustice. There are clubs going to go broke this summer. Just hope yours is one of them.

Yes, and having to find extra hundreds of thousands of pounds to play on for a lot of clubs would really help that situation I suppose?

Take it on the chin and be thankful as a club you still have a club to support.

League One officially curtailed, then.

From a Pompey perspective I didn't really care how the season ended. If we played on I think our home record would have kept us in the play-offs but our away record not good enough to justify a top 2 finish. As it is, Oxford fans can take heart from our woeful play-off record. In the six play-off ties we've played in our history we've drawn all three home ties and lost all three away ties. So I'm not too confident.

I feel sorry for Tranmere and Peterborough who are the big losers here, but I think PPG was a better way of finishing the season than outright null and void. To have gone through all of this season's tedium and Jacketball for nothing would have been awful.

We don't have Nathan Thompson to get in their faces and wind them up this time! It's good to see some of our ex-players have some success at Swindon this season, especially Danny Rose.

Over the moon. Just three years after we were relegated to League Two we're finally back in the Championship. What an unbelievable job Mark Robins has done here.

Really feel for Tranmere, incredibly harsh on them. I hope they can channel the understandable anger from these unfortunate circumstances and immediately bounce back next season.

Oh I am grateful I will still have a club to support . One with a lot more class than Forest Green, their chairman and their mini bus of fans thats for sure.
