As much of an idiot and egotist as the man is, he doesn't seem to have left Billericay in a terrible state in terms of facilities and seems to have written off most if not all of the club's debt to him. I can certainly see why he'd appeal to a club without a ground and with very little money, though that makes it a little more risky for everyone involved.

If he really is serious about Romford, his first priority should be sorting them out a new ground and getting the fans back.

Looks like his Lamborghini will be needing a new paint job.

I give it a month before he announces himself as manager.

Silly question I suppose, but other than ego, what's in this for him? He complains about the abuse he gets, so why put yourself through it?

As a supporter of a club with no ground & very little money (aside from our ongoing FA Cup run this season) i can safely say he does not appeal! It must be an Essex thing.

Ricay fans on Saturday seemed very happy to be rid of him.

As you said - ego. He thrived off the attention at Billericay.

This is just a scenario on a never ending loop

Businessman takes over shitty little club. No fans to oppose a takeover so he takes over. He promises the earth

Shitty little club starts to spend vast sums on money on players who 'cant wait to be part of this exciting project' and it starts smashing teams all over the place

Ground begins to take place, albeit on a small scale and all looks fairly temporary although smart

Shitty little club attracts glory hunting fans who jump on board and proceed to look down their noses at anyone who questions their loyalty or why the players are suddenly playing 2 levels below where they should be.

More players are bought, shitty little club then goes full time in a bid to reach 'the football league in 5 years'

Once the national league is reached (and South/North) other clubs fail to be impressed and shitty little club loses far too many games.

Owner starts making noises about things being 'not sustainable' and the budget decreases. Results are mixed and 'fans' vanish

Money goes, fans go, and shitty little club reverts to what it always was.

I'm no fan of Tamplin, but this is a tiny step 4 team sitting bottom of their league with 5 points all season and no ground.

The worst case scenario for them isn't much worse than their current situation.

Tbh if I were a Romford fan I’d probably welcome someone like Tamplin with open arms. No cash, no home and no prospects. Lucky not to be playing County Football (AGM Cup winners last season). As mentioned above what have they got to lose?

His son needs a team to play for.

Tamplin confirms himself as manager.

Weird choice of club, they don't have a ground and the area is another East London/Essex West Ham chav hole. They barely have any fans as well, if any apart from your usual non league old man ground hopper.

I used to enjoy going out in Romford in my youth, no I can't stand the place - This has just made it even more unbearable.

He must feel that there's some potential here, that if he gets them a return home then the fans will start coming out in droves. But it won't be that easy, especially if he puts himself front and centre all over again (as that was arguably a large part of why things fell apart at Billericay as he opened himself up to abuse that he obviously wasn't ready to take).

You missed off the bit where the changing rooms get painted Jungle Book style.

Doesn't he usually appoint that Wheeler bloke and sack him 25 times a season.

Maybe he realised full time pro football was never going to be viable at 'ricay. Build a small stadium in Romford, recruit the best local non league players, the resulting increase in attendances might just make it viable. Or it could just all go horribly wrong. Only time will tell, but Romford have gone from total obscurity to suddenly being discussed all over social media.

No chance of ever having sustained attendances unless it’s league titles every year in this area, it’s impossible to attract the population that exists in these areas to matchday experience beyond premier league. We’ve tried it for years and years.

It seems that Romford fans are wary but generally accepting of the move, as they need Tamplin's money to get their new ground built and not just slowly die off; they've already received planning permission for a new ground in Romford, but they didn't have the money to actually start building it and Tamplin offers that.

Of course, I'm sure they're less than happy with the rest of the Tamplin circus, but it's at least understandable why they've let him take over (as one has said, it's better to have that than to have no club at all).
