Think you and I watched a different programme.

The documentary showed the sheer nepotism afoot. From the cringe worthy family pre match chat in the chippie (wonderfully cutting to Hayrettin who has to graft for his keep at his chip shop he also runs...get the feeling the production team had the measure of weaver, it wasn't complimentary at times), having his mum and dad travelling in the team bus to the point where it held up by son Simon forgetting to pick them up, the obsequious build up to meeting Sheridan, the fact that he keeps out of pre match build up thanks to his very talented assistant etc etc

The supporters (a small minority but not insignificant number of the pre weaver fans) don't go after some mouth opening shows of arrogance towards fans club officials telling some supporters to go and support another club, openly mocking a couple of fans, siding with a player who had a criminal past who threatend a fan in a car park and then at a service station....they thought it would be fine to out him on the front cover of the programme a few weeks later.....and many other examples. The fans are along for the weaver ride.

A ride that unfortunately sees the club as a subsidiary company of the house building company owned by the weavers.....sees the club lose around 500k a year with absolutely no plans as to what happens when the owner and debt vehicle support goes...he has openly said he is only there as long as daddy's boy is manager.

So no, it ain't good at all. We have had nearly ten years of it and latterly it's come good.... but at huge financial burden to the future of the club and a whole load of many years and cash wasted to get one promotion. All whilst daddy's lad learns on the job. And btw he was there for one season ore his dad bank rolling him and we would have been relegated had it not been for the AGM cup.

The club to me says a lot of modern society.....the rich getting unbelievable leg ups and tax right downs on a Ponzi based bubble fuelling their ability to be arrogant and wasteful. Blindly followed by many naïve and head down sheep, there for the easiness of association of success with feck all idea or care to bother what is fuelling their current bandwagon of choice.

Those that can see through this have seen the bankrolled bandwagon before. And it never ends well.

Thank you. I guess you support my previous post. From the horses mouth and all that. There have even been a couple of posts positive about Tamplin.

Tamplin is still a wanker at times but he is a naïve one, a bit of a good meaning way over the top one....he is using his own cash and not write downs against large tax bills to fund it. If he wants to spray it up the wall because he loves a club then fine. We have had the imposition of someone who would never of handled a manager's job in the big wide world having a club and huge budget (that will ultimately kill the club, Jon stead on £150k a year FFS) land in his lap and many of the more clued in fans treated with abohrent arrogance by said family.

Harrogates situation is far more commercially, nepotisitically motivated and destructive longer term and done with a typical Yorkshire millionaire arrogance and obstenance that I find a whole less easy to enjoy than the absolute circus car of clowns that is Romford. That said Romford wasn't my team.

Out of naïve interest is his fortune legitimately accrued unlike our previous owner Steven Vaughan.

Tamplin seems to be a bit of a lunatic.

However, if he wants to invest his time, money and effort into small local non-league clubs then fair play to him. He invested considerably at Billericay and now seems to be doing the same at Romford.

There have been worse owners out there who leave clubs in ruins when they walk away. I've certainly not heard that Billericay are on the brink of folding following Tamplin's exit :dk:

I live in Billericay and he left them a small sum but they still needed to strip out all the high earners and luckily most found other clubs. The current owners are propping it up until end of season when they will need to get rid of more high earners in the summer. Attendances have gone from over a thousand to 500, glory boys have left the building quicker than a they arrived.

Mainly in the Steel supply industry, though his companies house profile does show a history of debts to HMRC. One just before he took over Billericay

You must be joking! Hes the very definition of an owner who ought to get weeded out by any meaningful "fit and proper persons test".

Several companies of which he was a director were liquidated owing (from memory) a total of £1.7m, yet he goes around flaunting his ostentatious wealth and splurging a similar amount on non-league football. It's obscene.

As for loving a club, I'd say he only loves himself. He tried to buy Dagenham and one other club believed to be Bishop's Stortford (then still in the National South) before Billericay parted their legs for him. They were his third choice at best, it could have been anyone for him. Then after less than three years he walks away and just a few weeks later pitches up at Romford. He doesn't love any of these clubs, they're just vehicles for his own ego and vanity projects.

I wouldn't be too sure that Billericay are in a better place now than before he arrived either. Historic football club debts have a nasty habit of resurfacing like unexploded bombs months or even years after a dodgy owner has departed, especially if that owner has been deliberately deceitful or secretive about them when passing on control of the club. I give Billericay two more seasons at most in National South before they're back in the Isthmian Premier playing to crowds of 300 again, much like Margate or Whitehawk before them.

Talking of teams like Whitehawk, where are they now? I think having a "where are they now thread" would be quite interesting.

There must be a whole host of these random teams who somehow spiral their way out of the nothingness into national awareness before dropping back to Dog & Duck level.

They’re at Isthmian Division 1 South East level now, that is Step 4.
Canvey Island, Grays Athletic, Histon, Leigh RMI, Farley Celtic, Droylsden, Leek Town, Hyde Utd and Fisher Athletic are others of that ilk I can think of.

Shaw Lane Aquaforce were a recent one that we played in the FA Cup - I think they just folded?

As mentioned elsewhere, Colne Dynamoes were the originals and that went tits up too.

And where are they all now?

Canvey - step 4
Grays - step 4
Histon - step 4 (promoted from step 5 last year)
Leigh - resigned from the pyramid in 2011 after being relegated to step 5, carried on as a Sunday league team but nobody has bothered to set up a proper phoenix club
Farsley - doing well at step 2, though with their attendances I suspect they are being bankrolled again
Droylsden - step 4
Leek - step 4
Hyde - step 3
Fisher - went under in 2009, phoenix now at step 5
North Ferriby - went under last season, phoenix have joined at step 6
Shaw Lane - went under in 2018, only carrying on now with a youth team

Whitehawk's attendances at step 4 have barely changed from what they were getting at step 2. I was surprised to see JP Kissock is still there, who I can only assume has lowered his wage demands.

I also remember a guy who ran some Brazilian soccer schools buying Garforth Town and getting Socrates to play for them - I think he tried to get Roberto Carlos or Cafu to play a few games too! Presumably he went bust too?

He never got them above step 4. He combined being owner-manager of Garforth with a coaching role at Southampton during Sir Clive Woodward's weird spell as DOF there. It did not go well.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2005/nov/16/newsstory.sport11

He clearly got on with Rupert Lowe during his time there though as Lowe later bought Garforth and his kids football schools off of him.

I stand to be corrected, but i can imagine that Whitehawk never broke the 1,000 barrier after hosting Truro in the Vase QF in 2007.

They did play Lincoln City and Dagenham in the FA Cup proper, so could have attracted 4 figure crowds for those two matches

Shaw Lane didn’t even get higher than Level 3!
Colne Dynamoes was a real case of the owner throwing a strop and leaving the club to wither when things didn’t go his way.

The owner of Colne chucked it in when he got abuse from the fans for the ground not being up to standard

And still to this day teams are lobbing loads of money at teams while neglecting their stadiums.

As yes, Simon something or other and his 25 year plan to take Garforth Town into the Football League, he was owner, chairman and manager. We first encountered him in 2008. We wondered who this plonker was in a suit on the touchline, in charge of the pub team we were playing. It was a game that consisted of 10 minutes of football and 80 minutes of waiting for a new ball to be found after they'd booted the old one out of the ground. The game there the following season will be talked about in Halifax until the sky falls from its heaven and the Earth falls into the sun. Second in the table to Lancaster who, due at The shay on the Saturday for a game that would more or less decide the Champions, and who were shall we say, rather pleased when they walked off the pitch at Rossendale to hear we were losing 3-1 and the game was in stoppage time. Their manager later admitted they were utterly crushed when they got on the coach and learned we had scored 3 goals in 5 minutes of overtime to win 4-3.

Here's the sound of the winning goal, I still get goosebumps when I hear this:

Whitehawk's attendances at step 4 have barely changed from what they were getting at step 2.
They're in a play off place following two consecutive relegations and had just under 300 for their last home game. They're actually quite well supported for their current division now.

The first time they were promoted from that level, as champions in 2011, I recall they only had four league attendances over 125 and were being bankrolled by people associated with Kingspan, a manufacturer of building materials. There were various pie in the sky proposals including a move to Withdean Stadium, then a plan to completely redevelop the current ground as well as a change of name to Brighton City. They've probably found a niche as an alternative to Brighton & Hove Albion in a fairly large city and ought to be able to stabilize as an Isthmian club, whereas even just a decade ago their natural level was probably only Sussex County League.

At one point he wanted to relocate the club to share with Burnley, who were in the Fourth Division at the time. Maybe I'm missing something but surely the whole point of a club like Colne is that it plays home games in Colne, so the people of Colne can all go there and support it together within their own community.

I support Dulwich Hamlet and our ground is no longer really adequate for the crowds we get, as well as having an uncertain future due to the landlords wanting to redevelop. Millwall is less than 3 miles away and right next to a station on the same line, no doubt the Colne owner's logic would be to move us there, but then it wouldn't really be Dulwich Hamlet for me even though I now live at Bermonsdey and more or less walk to Millwall's ground to get the train to East Dulwich for home games.

I'm sure Wealdstone fans can attest to the fact that moving a non-league club to groundshare with a neighbouring Football League club isn't a successful blueprint for long term progress.

50% stake in Vicarage Road was only ever going to end in disaster. I'm amazed the club didn't go under but credit to the hardcore at the time who refused to let the club die.

I dont think you can get a soya frappuccino at the New Den so that alone would be enough to put most Dulwich fans off.

I hate to give them credit but that's a cracking win against a team who looked far too good for step 4 in their televised FA Cup tie earlier in the season.
Still bottom on goal difference but with games in hand. It's looking like they'll stay up now, possibly at the expense of their landlords Brentwood.
