What's a pancota I hear you ask? Well, Pancota is a Romanian Second Division side who are currently attracting attention for all the wrong reasons. I had never heard of them before, but I was checking out Flashscore some 3/4 weeks ago and the result of their first game caught my eye, as I couldn't believe a 16-0 scoreline was possible in a second div match anywhere in the world. That was until I stumbled upon this article-

http://www.sportskeeda.com/football/romanias-somimii-concedes-41-goals-in-opening-three-games

and now the reasons are all too clear. The club has financial problems and so will be relying on kids this season, with so far, quite splendid results if you ask me

Afumati (A) 0-16
Sepsi (H) 0-7
Juventus Bucuresti (A) 0-18
Satu Mare (H) 0-9

So that's already 50 goals conceded in just 4 games!

Having said all this, I don't think the club is simply playing their youth side, cos if they were then they wouldn't be humiliated in every game they play. I'm thinking it's more possible that all their players done a runner and they're resorting to fielding some local Sunday league players instead.

Are there any Romanian members on this forum who can perhaps shed a little more light on this thing?

I'm going to keep this thread updated (until I get bored that is) for my own amusement, so when times are tough at my beloved United like they are now, I'll simply look at this thread and feel better ;)

anyways, my Pancota (Yes, I've decided I'm going to start following them) played a couple more games and I'm glad to report the side fared much better!

Calarasi (A) 0-2
Tarlungeni (H) 1-4

:db: That's right! Pancota got their first goal! Fantastic achievement if you ask me.

C'mon the Pancots. Onwards and Upwards.

Pancots lost 6-0 to local (supporter owned) rivals ACS UTA Bătrâna Doamnă (The Old Lady), more properly known as FC UTA Arad. Bătrâna Doamnă got rid of their dodgy italian owner but italians Angelo Massone and Salvatore Micari continue to drag the Pancots down. Apparently new (italian) coach Giancarlo Oddi arrived, saw the mess and left.

Perhaps they should link up with Orient?

Googling up the Pancots eh Alan? ;) I didn't realise they had Italian owners until I checked out their wiki page, and I most certainly did not know another Italian was set to be their manager until he changed his mind which is simply unacceptable :told:

I think I need to befriend someone who speaks Romanian so I don't miss out on any updates concerning my new favourite side. Google Translate doesn't cut it for such important matters:)

I could speak a bit of Romanian (and read/understood more) once upon a time - hence my interest. It's nearer to latin than any other language, which helps with vocabulary, but I've not tried to use it for over 20 years. Good luck with your quest for a româneşte prieten (or even better prietenă) - Cambridge is full of them and not just at the car wash. City even had Claudiu Vilcu at centre back last season.

Pancots' match at CS Balotesti kicks of at 11 a.m., so we can get the result before our kick off at Rodney Park. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a live feed. Balotesti are also in the relegation zone but have managed a win and 3 draws. They lost 4-2 at Transylvania's FC Brasov mid-week

Pancots got to half-time 0-0 on Wednesday, before succumbing in the 57th minute and finishing 0-3 at home to Timisoara. Manager speak seems to be the same the whole world over -

With the debates that have kicked of about regionalising lower leagues of the EFL, it is interesting to note that Romania have just moved from regions to a national league for their Liga 2. Below that, it remains a Gordian knot with the bottom 6 of 20 in Liga 2 relegated to 6 regional divisions in Liga 3 (I think!!)

Thanks for the link Alan. Sadly, I felt insulted by what this Danut Bilia chap said. Who does he think he is exactly?

I would not want to offend anyone, but do not see the point of this team. Not pose, sitting on the ground, it's basically just the number in this championship, "said Danut Bilia and fulltime, midfielder came to ASU Poly CS Ineu.

Can't wait for the return fixture so one of the Pancots' players exacts revenge for his cruel words.

The Hawks got beat 2-0 at Baloteşti last week but something had to give today. They were at home to ACS Berceni - who have also played 9 lost 9. However, their goal difference is only -20 compared to Pancots -66.

The result - The Hawks got their first point with a 0 - 0 draw.

etichete_soimi_pancota.jpg

Wiki seems to think ACS Berceni play in a village (also called Berceni) down near the Danube in the SE. In fact I may have been in the vicinity as the suburb of Berceni lies just south of the Parcul Natural Văcărești in Bucharest.https://plus.google.com/photos/photo/109303516030761219376/6251842870281144322

A few "highlights" now on Youtube. Sebastian Ingrosso was not impressed "This goalkeeper is curupted de putta madre"

The Hawks will be looking for revenge at ASU Politehnica Timisoara on Tuesday in the Cupa României after the Băieții în Ghete (Boys in Boots) took their post-match celebrations (below) well beyond the Derry fist pump a couple of weeks back, after their first ever away win in Liga 2.

As usual in Romania, ownership and history of clubs in Timisoara is complicated, with politics at the forefront.

ASU Poli Timisoara (known as and backed by The Băieții în Ghete or Boys in Boots) appears to be a fan owned Phoenix club formed in 2012, after FC Poli Timisoara died and the Poli Ultras turned their back on a newly named ACS Poli Timisoara which was actually ACS Recas that had been moved to Timisoara and seems to be run by local politicians, especially Timisoara mayor, Nicolar Robu. Are you keeping up?

ACS Poli are currently 14th in Liga 1, having just escaped relegation at the end of last season and hence avoiding the local war that may have broken out with the Boys in Boots

Șoimii travel to Târgovişte at the weekend, having sucumbed 6-1 to ASU Poli in the cup on Tuesday. Apparently they had an even worse batch of players up their sleeves that they decided to field for the cup match.

"........I thought it important to see the work of juniors or players who have played less or not at all lately. Some of those who played in the championship and today we can count, but it's important to have all the players fit for the game on Saturday. Personally, I have already forgotten this failure and concentrate only on game preparation in Targoviste," said Nikola Jovan.

https://translate.googleusercontent...766195&usg=ALkJrhhPcxj3T3jZF1to_y56FLeca5kSXw

So they go into the match unbeaten in one, in the league, but with no great hopes or expectations - although new signing, Japanese "star" Gentaro Murakami, who scored on his second half debut on Tuesday, may make his league debut. As far as i know, he's no relation to his better known namesake Haruki Murakami, who famously said: "Don't feel sorry for yourself. Only assholes do that." and "Taking crazy things seriously is a serious waste of time."

In the early 90's, my work took me to the Târgovişte Min of Ag office where the Ceaușescus were held before their arrest, "trial" and execution Christmas 1989. The former capital of Wallachia is also famous for its connections with Vlad Dracula - who was pissed off that the citizens killed his brother so impaled a few of them. There were quite few battles and seiges involving the Ottomans during his 15th century exploits and they never got further N and W than Târgovişte. Vlad's big victory was the "Night Attack" or Battle with Torches" in 1462.

300px-AtaculdeNoapte.jpg

Local (former) rivals FCM Târgovişte had been around since 1950 but were dissolved in 2015. FC Chindia Târgovişte were formed in 2010 and are known as Micul Ajax (The Little Ajax). They are named after a local landmark, the Chindia Tower - which provided a relaxing sunday afternoon walk between some serious eating and drinking sessions, if I remember correctly.

800px-TurnulChindiei.jpg

Hope Soimii are focussed on the result against FC Chindia Târgovişte and not distracted by the partying opportunities that a weekend away will offer them.

If understand correctly, Massone has been causing more ructions with his efforts to get some points on the board for Șoimii from last week's match against Balotesti. I wish my Romanian was up to improving on this fantastic translation

https://translate.google.co.uk/tran...ia-1/soimii-pancota-9944161/stiri&prev=search

"Delegate Liviu Ilea (lower photo) stated at one point that referee, Claudiu Mark, refused to show Massone his watch (made under regulation the official one) with time the Baloteşti doctor Leonid Turcan, signed to turn the scoresheet.???????........."

and

"..........Finally, in parallel, a separate document Pâncotanii made against the Referee, Constanta Claudiu Mark felt - basically - the main culprit for all the "fuss" by the time it got really Turcan doctor Leonid stadium. 11:18 pm under the clock "hawks" and or 11:13, according to one of Ilfoveni.?????"

The end is nigh for Soimii. Massone and Miccari have shown Leeds and Orient that they have yet to plumb the depths that Italian ownership can deliver for a football club. The Terminator Look Out There Are Llamas NolansOrient E10rifle Magic

Oct 9 Massone reveals plans to move club from Arad to Arges. Arad authorities left in the lurch.

Oct 11 Local authorities in Arges say "No." Players dispersed around Arges hotels, or heading home. Coach, Nicola Jovan, says "Stuff it. I'm not going to Arges. I'm going home to Serbia."

Oct 13 Not sure which stadium to go to or if there'll be a team to play, CSM Ramnicu Valcea have asked the League if there will be a match on Saturday.

OFFICIAL | Falcons match Pâncota - CSM Ramnicu Valcea do not play!
Massone is about to destroy a new club in Romania

"............players were spreading left and right tired of management tricks and poor working conditions. Romanian Football Federation announced that it could not hold the 12th stage game.

"Simply we are unable to organize official game Saturday, from Siria. What will happen next do not ask me because I do not know, " he confessed to Sports Arad , Dorin MICS, Arad second divisional sports director.

Thus, CSM Ramnicu Valcea will not be leaving Siria on Saturday and expect to win the game at the "green table".

Angelo%20Massone

703126-angelo-massone.jpg

The Angelo Massone, who is about to screw up our beloved Soimii Pâncota and bankrupted Club Sportiv Municipal Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț in 2015, is the same Angelo Massone who took over Livingston FC in 2008. He got through a few managers then took them into Administration in June 2009. Eventually a deal was done with the SFL and some new owners and he flitted at the end of July, before all the skeletons came out of the cupboard, with some cash in his pocket.

In July 2013, he was also favourite at one stage to take over at Hearts - making a second increased bid of over £5 million to take them out of Administration. The lucky Jambos escaped his clutches and, with the interim support of a fans group, came out of Admin in June 2014.

The Daily Record reported: "..........Massone’s record with Livingston will strike real fear into the hearts of the Tynecastle support.

He left the club with a mountain of debt and even had the electricity cut off at Almondvale for failing to pay bills. Administration followed and the West Lothian club ended up in the Third Division.

Massone tried to buy the club from Vladimir Romanov for £4.5m last November but the offer was rejected and Hearts said they did not believe he was the right man to take the club forward."

I'm beginning to wonder if he was shoddycollins and gang's mystery millionaire from last season.

Looking for a sugar daddy? In need of overseas investment? Be afraid, be very afraid. Coming to a club near you this season - Angelo "the saving angel" Massone.

The match with Valcea did not happen. However, the on/off/on/off match between Soimii (Falcons) and Foresta Suceava (formerly Rapid Sucueva) is currently ON......possibly.

https://translate.googleusercontent...839923&usg=ALkJrhjQdAXxZT4rVhzc4GbZMEnQmVpT-A

Players and fans (possibly?) are making the arduous road trip to Suceava (situated in the far NE of Romania) from all points west, by car, minibus and whatever transport they can afford.

hqdefault.jpg

The Yellow and Greens (Galben-Verzii) have lined up Liga 3 side CSM Roman as alternative opposition in case they don't show - they are more focused on the opportunity for preparation for their televised Cup match with Steaua on Thursday than the guaranteed league points and boost to their goal difference that the match presents.

https://translate.googleusercontent...839980&usg=ALkJrhgw0UNe5p1-9-ELlj-p_hIubSOFYw

I never ventured quite as far north as Sucueva in my trips to old Moldavia in the 80's but it has some of the most amazing churches, monasteries and old buildings on it's doorstep, as well as stunning mountains and forests.

I've neglected this thread Alan, but you're doing a great job keeping it alive with some great info. Well done

Did you check out today's result? Lost 14-0 to Foresta Suceava, with 10 goals coming in the second half

The 14-0 scoreline isn't even half the story Vanni

Journalists are having a field day.

They couldn't scrape together 11 players, let alone a bench, but started with 10 so that they could complete the fixture and not be automatically kicked out of the league for a second default. Dulap-Orsoi went off injured in the 82nd minute, with the score at 11-0, leaving the Falcons to finish the match with 9 men.

Beware of Romanian translations. The injured man was variously named as "Dulap," "Wardrobe" and "Cabinet" in the Live Text feed of the match.

Şoimii: Horvath - Copilescu, Stelitano (cpt.), Stoichiţoiu, A. Pătraşcu, Dulap-Ursoi, Randi, D. Popa, D. Dan

Falcons: Horvath - Copilescu, Stelitano (Capt.), Stoichitoiu, A. Patrascu, Wardrobe-Urso, Randi, D. Popa, Dan D.

Update/correction on the 9 man finish. Apparently Dulap-Urso was so pissed off with everything that, when his own goal took the score to 12 - 0, he tried to get the match stopped. Eventually, the rest of the team was persuaded to finish the match but he walked/limped off in a huff.

Highlights: Foresta Suceava 14 - 0 Soimii Pancota

The "crowd" was down a bit on the numbers expected for Suceava's cup-tie with Steaua Bucharest on Thursday. They sold out all 5,500 tickets in 3 hours yesterday afternoon.

Sad day for Pancots followers worldwide :( And probably for Berceni fans too as they're now pointless.

At least, there is something positive about this whole mess. The person to blame for all this is Paul Piros and not poor Angelo Massone ;)

The only thing I've yet discover, with all my research, is how Shaun Harvey fits into this mess. He has to be there somewhere.

Checked out the Pancots' wiki page and saw this -

"Then in the last minute before the start of the championship, Pavel Piroș, the president of the club, decided to present at the matches with youth players. As a result they managed to get some of the biggest counter-performance of Romanian football, 0-18 against Juventus București, 0-16 against CS Afumați and 0-14 against Foresta Suceava.[3] Meanwhile at the club has appeared as an investor, Angelo Massone, a businessman who came with promises but ended up leading the club into bankruptcy and exclusion, just like his previous football club, Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț.[4][5]"

One of their fans isn't taking this all too well

I think it's a very Wiki entry. It was up the day of the "exclusion." I've not been able to extract much more from the media, other than the impact of points and fixture losses on other teams. I guess the bankruptcy is inevitable but it hasn't happened yet. They did field a few italians and a japanese as well as the youth players.

The exclusion seems to be based on them failing to complete fixtures for their youth team rather than the farce of their first team activities.

"The existence of the Falcons Pancota in "management" Italian is about to end. Try as he might to keep devices connected to the senior team, even at the risk of humiliation like the one suffered in Suceava (0-14), Angelo Massone has ignored Junior Championship where, on Sunday, "black and whites" not been presented again, writes Sport Arad ."

"Pursuant to Art. 33. 3.a conjunction with art. 38 al. 1 sentence 3 and al. 4 of ROAF, based on art. 79/12 DR and art. 86. 6.3 of RD notes that ACS Falcons Pancota no longer eligible to participate in the Championship League 2nd edition 2016/2017, whereas U17 junior team was excluded from the competition by Decision no. 546 / CD / 2016.

ACS has excluded Falcons senior team Pancota Championship League 2016/2017 2nd edition."

Although Şoimii Pâncota are pretty much gone and if they re-emerge at all it'll be as a phoenix club at a local level, the saga of Liga 2 still has plenty of legs.

ACS Berceni Buftea have had nearly as bad a season as Pancots. Their only point was from their 0-0 draw with the Falcons, now gone, and their goal difference is 7 - 47. The owners have had enough and thrown in the towel.

Paul Tertelac gave an interview to Total Sport FM confirming it was all over and they'll be withdrawing.
paul-terteleac-vicepresedinte-berceni.jpg

https://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=ro&u=http://www.ilfovsport.ro/&prev=search

In July, the writing was probably on the wall - Sport Total FM had reported

ACS Berceni, abandoned by local authorities, was ready to move to Constanta. Eventually, the team remained in Berceni, but will continue its work under new management and owners. Paul Tertelac, Sporting Director, said:

"After we did not change anything. We tried to move to Constanta, but I was not accepted by the FRF. Eventually, the headquarters remained in Berceni and all the team will be exactly the same, but new shareholders come in and they should understand better.

At this time we are okay with everything on the playing side. We will probably continue to play at Berceni in exchange for rent. The team is made almost 70%, and next week will the whole group. 5-6 players will come with familiar names at this league. Marcel Abaluta coaches and during the next week will decide on a second. Cosmin Barbu will be president and two financiers will join. Unfortunately, Mr. Stana will not be part of the staff team."

There are wider ills in Liga 2. A few of the clubs want to finish the first half of the season early and come back, at least two clubs less, in February when the pitches may have improved. Winter has arrived in Romania and they are fed up of playing in a "mud fight" or on a skating rink of snow.

Two clubs gone and it seems that as many as four more may follow them out of existence from the Romanian Liga 2 over the coming winter break.

CSM Ramnicu Valcea (local government have withdrawn financial support) and CS Unirea Tarlungeni (already failed to complete this weekend's fixture) may be next to go. Players from Olimpia Satu Mare have refused to train because they haven't been paid for several months. FC Brasov are up in the air after appointment of a Receiver has been judged illegal by the Appeals Court.
