Recently watched since I last posted.

Hereditary (2018)
Great atmospheric horror revolving around a cursed family and their creepy recently deceased matriarch. The performances throughout are great and it took a direction I wasn't expecting quite early on. The last sequence seems to be considered the weakest part of the film by some critics but I thought it was great and the very final scene sent a real chill down my spine.

The Church (1989)
With my interest in films involving demons and the occult piqued by Hereditary I decided to have a bit of a binge in the days that followed and this was the first one I tried. Italian production penned by Dario Argento and Franco Ferrini. The premise is great, Teutonic knights massacre a village of suspected devil worshippers in the middle ages and build a gothic church atop the mass grave to keep the evil trapped fast forward to 1989 and the new church librarian unwittingly unleashes the evil which commences to possess a mix match group of tourists and church goers trapped inside. With a cast that includes a teenaged Asia Argento and Hugh Quarshie (Dr Ric Griffin from Casualty/Holby City) you'd expect to be onto a winner but ultimately it's quite a dull affair.

The Ninth Gate (1999)
Next up I chose this one. I've seen it before but that was way back when it was first released so thought I'd give it another watch. Again the premise is great, an unscrupulous rare book expert is hired by a shady billionaire to authenticate his recently acquired grimoire that was allegedly written with the help of Lucifer. To do so he must track down the only other two remaining copies (the author was burnt at the stake for heresy along with all other copies). It balances the horror and humour well (intentionally I'm assuming) and, for me, comes to a satisfactory conclusion.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)
I half heartedly watched this a while back but decided to revisit it and give it my full attention this time around. It's part court room drama part exorcist based on the true life exorcism of Anneliese Michel. The flashback scenes to Emily's exorcism and the events that precede it are great and brilliantly acted out by Jennifer Carpenter and overall it's a very good film, much better than reviews and ratings would suggest.

Any recommendations for this type of film are very welcome. Currently on my to watch list is The Blackcoat's Daughter (2015), The Devil's Candy (2015), The Nun (2018), Dark Waters (1994), The Possession of Hannah Grace (2018) and The Devils (1971).

Mandy (2018)
Bat shit revenge with Nic Cage, demonic bikers, demented hippies and death metal. Naturally it's awesome.

All the Devils are Here (2014)
Ultra low budget shite but surprisingly enjoyable up until the last 10 minutes or so.

Wildling (2018)
Coming of age horror starring Bel Powley as a young girl raised in isolation who has to come to terms with her true identity once she is released into the outside world. Pretty good but how Liv Tyler manages to get work is beyond me, truly terrible actress.

Killing Ground (2016)
Disturbing Australian outback nutters. Wholly unsavoury experience.

Hold the Dark (2018)
Boring film that fails to utilise it's great setting and potentially decent story and suffers from obvious delusions of grandeur.

Shakma (1990)
Low budget animal attack film with a pyscho baboon.

I'm currently embarked on a mission to watch as much 1980's creature feature crap as I can get through.

The Pit (1981)
This is a weird and wonderful low budget Canadian effort surrounding an oddball young boy (brilliantly played by Sammy Snyders) whose only friend is his teddy bear that talks to him. He discovers a huge hole in the woods inhabited by carnivorous troll like creatures and encouraged by Teddy decides to feed everyone he hates to them.

To watch list.
Elves (1989)
Humanoids from the Deep (1980)
The Boogens (1981)
The Strangeness (1985)
Leviathan (1989)

Again recommendations are welcome.

Humanoids from the Deep (1980)
Mutated fish-men from the sea start to invade a small coastal town killing the men and raping the women. I watched it while drunk which I would suggest is the best way.

The Strangeness (1985)
Whilst surveying an abandoned gold mine a group become trapped and find themselves at the mercy of the creature that inhabits it. The picture and sound quality was awful but I think even if it had been decent this one still wouldn't have been very good.

Better Watch Out (2016)
Christmas home invasion horror with a nasty twist. I quite liked this one and would put it up there as far as Christmas horror goes. It's well acted and paced with some real nasty scenes and plenty of dark humour.

Our House (2018)
This one was ok. A college student has to return home to look after his younger siblings when their parents are killed in an accident. He's working on a project to create wireless electricity (I don't know) and turns out his machine can actually open a channel to another dimension instead. Obviously there's something unpleasant on the other side.

What Keeps You Alive (2018)
Decent cat and mouse horror from one half of the Vicious Brothers (Grave Encounters, Extraterrestrial). It's difficult to say what it's about without giving anything away apart from it revolves around a married couple and their holiday at a cabin in the woods to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. If you plan on watching it I would advise against reading any synopsis for it as I did and it ruined it a little bit for me by giving the game away.

Marrowbone (2017)
English language Spanish production set in the 1960's concerning an English family who have fled to America to escape their troubled past but obviously it soon catches up with them. It did a pretty good job of keeping me guessing and the performances from all the cast are great.

The Nun (2018) 4/10

The Nun is a really bad horror film in which it reaches nowhere near the levels of the first two Conjuring films, in which the film simultaneously serves as an origin story for the entire franchise. And a presence that initially was disturbing grows repetitive and almost predictable over the course of an entire film. Starring Demian Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet and Bonnie Aarons.

The Covenant (2006) 2/10

This film is simply bad. Once it's over it's done, there's no need to see it again and very little if any of it will retain in your memory. Terribly acted, and entirely lacking of any real scares. Starring Steven Strait, Sebastian Stan, Laura Ramsey, Taylor Kitsch, Toby Hemingway and Jessica Lucas.

See No Evil 2 (2014) 5/10

Slightly better than the first with scream queen Danielle Harris on board working in the mortuary, not the greatest of acting but plenty of gore with WWE's Kane as the brutal psychopath Jacob Goodnight. Probably would need to watch the first film before this follow-up. Starring Danielle Harris, Glenn (Kane) Jacobs, Katherine Isabelle, Greyston Holt and Kaj-Erik Eriksen.

Beyond The Woods (2018) 2/10

Basically a low budget movie that wasn't all that great, I know it must be difficult making a movie with little resources. It's about a group of friends that meet at a cottage in the Irish countryside for an undisturbed weekend to get away from all the troubles of life. Unfortunately that doesn't go as well as expected. Starring Ruth Hayes, John Ryan Howard and Irene Kelleher.

We Are Still Here (2015) 4/5

A bit of fun, old-fashioned if you like the Italian stuff, atmosphere and gore. Probably worth a look with the scares and the shocks that work very well with the twists of the plot. Starring Barbara Crampton, Andrew Sensenig, Lisa Marie, Larry Fessenden and Monte Markham.

Would You Rather (2013) 6/10

I really liked this film, about a group of people who are invited to a dinner party with the promise from a millionaire dude that one of them will win a sum of money if he or she wins a game. A really good independent Horror film that's worth a watch. Starring Brittany Snow, Jeffrey Combs, Sasha Grey, John Heard and Jonathan Coyne.

The Possession Of Hannah Grace (2018) 5/10

A bit rather predictable, but nevertheless super creepy. A fairly decent plot with some above average effects. Definitely worth a view. Starring Shay Mitchell, Stana Katic and Grey Damon.

Boarding School (2018) 5/10

A different to what is usual or expected, for me it's a weird and very strange movie that has an interesting story that in some ways pays off at the end. Extremely dark gothic horror i thought. Starring Luke Prael, Sterling Jerins, Samantha Mathis, Will Patton and Nadia Alexander.

Pet Semetary ,another film rashly thrown out under the guise of horror ,the spark intended to ignite a semblance of originality petered out after the first 20 mins.

Incident In A Ghostland (2018) 6/10

A decent enough film for the horror fan's looking for sheer viciousness and brutality, about a small family including the mother and two daughters moving into a typical large cobweb creepy home inherited from the strange aunt. Not long after arriving at the house the horrific events begin to gradually develop. Starring Crystal Reed, Anastasia Phillips, Emilia Jones, Taylor Hickson and Kevin Power.

Talon Falls (2017) 6/10

Enjoy the ride with this one such a strange movie from beginning to end, another one of those road trip movies in which the usual suspects end up in the middle of nowhere, only this time they get conned into going to a local scream park called Talon Falls, and then the fun begins. Starring Morgan Wiggins, Ryan Rudolph, Jordyn Rudolph and Brad Bell.

Wer (2013) 7/10

I thought this one was fairly decent for a werewolf film, without the annoyance of werewolf costumes to sidetrack the viewer, and the movie providing both action and scares. There's some great stunt work included as well. Starring A.J Cook, Brian Scott O'Connor, Sebastian Roche, Vik Sahay and Simon Quarterman.

Fire in the Sky (1993)
A real slow burner that doesn’t do much for the entirety of the film. Having said that, the 10-minute main event is outstanding and makes up for it. Really rubbish ending though.

Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)
It’s a just a bit loud and over the top with no real substance. At no point was there a sense of unease. The film model has been done better many other times.

Sinister (2011)
Has a few too many jump scares for my liking but the overall creepy vibe to the film is good. There was a few times when I got nervous watching it. Wished they hadn’t gone down the supernatural route but the twist at the end was nicely done.

Kill List (2011) 8/10

Begins like a thriller but turns out to be a terrifying horror film. About two hit men one of them is the impressive (Neil Maskell) an ex-soldier who returns to contract killing to support his family. Starring Neil Maskell, Michael Smiley and MyAnna Buring.

Bordello Of Blood (1996) 5/10

Not a great comedy horror movie but all the same it was fun to watch, a tongue in cheek campy style film with one or two sexy vampires to keep your eyes peeled. Starring Erika Eleniak, Angie Everhart, Dennis Miller and Corey Feldman.

Coffin (2011) 3/10

A similar film to Buried but probably not as good, acting was a bit wooden in this film. A low budget movie to sit through if you've got an hour to spare. Starring Kevin Sorbo, Johnny Alonso, Sunny Doench and Patrick Barnitt.

Cheap Thrills (2014) 9/10

The lengths we'll go through for money when we are truly desperate, seriously torture, what a savage and very dark movie this film is absolutely loved it brilliant. I don't think this one is for the faint of heart. Starring Amanda Fuller, David Koechner, Ethan Embry, Pat Healy and Sara Paxton.

Cut And Run (1985) 6/10

A typical Italian horror with lots of graphic kill scenes and plenty of gore, It's about a news reporter and cameraman team that start snooping in the jungles of South America. The usual war tribes that go with these films begin to appear. I did spot the bald guy from The Hills Have Eyes in this movie, he never speaks. Starring Lisa Blount, Leonard Mann, Willie Aames, Richard Lynch and Michael Berryman.

Down A Dark Hall (2018) 3/10

Not too bad, then again not great about a young teen sent to a spooky haunted mansion type school for troubled and gifted girls. A bit of a gothic teen horror nothing special to get excited about. Starring AnnaSophia Robb, Uma Thurman, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jodhi May and Kirsty Mitchell.

The Wind (2018) 6/10

Slow-paced but compelling and does indeed blow a hell of a chill through you. The film starts with an ill-fated birth and ends with a woman left on a cursed land. Starring Caitlin Gerard, Julia Goldani Telles, Ashley Zukerman, Dylan McTee and Miles Anderson.

The Haunting of Borley Rectory (2019) 1/10

Oh dear don't waste anytime on this film it was so unbelievably bad. I know the filmmakers were most likely working with an extremely low budget, unimaginable performances by a no name cast, absolute garbage. Starring Zach Clifford, Rad Brown, Sonera Angel, Garry Roost and Kit Pascoe.

The Dead the Damned and the Darkness (2014) 1/10

Good lord what an awful film, this movie ends up being terrible in any way that you can think of, and a lot of the dialogue is incredibly bad. It's basically just a cheap movie. Starring Robert Tweten, Iren Levy, John J. Welsh and Richard Tyson.

Malicious (2018) 6/10

I thought this film was pretty creepy and a decent horror, despite the low budget limitations. Not really a bad movie it's definitely worth watching. Starring Josh Stewart, Bojana Novakovic, Delroy Lindo and Melissa Bolona.

Haunted (1995) 6/10

Enjoyed this film especially with pretty as a picture (Kate Beckinsale) prancing about naked, surely must have been one of her earliest on screen appearances. A stunningly attractive performance from her in this film. Not a bad little ghost story. Aidan Quinn, Kate Beckinsale, Anthony Andrews, John Gielgud and Anna Massey.

4/20 Massacre (2018) 5/10

And if you like a reasonably good slasher, this one's not too bad about five women that head out to the woods for a camping trip to celebrate a friend's birthday. Eventually, they come across a costumed killer. A fun film. Starring Jamie Bernadette, Vanessa Rose Parker, Stacy Danger, Justine Wachsberger and Marissa Pistone.

AfterDeath (2015) 6/10

If your looking for something completely different this is the one, very strange film. Five strangers wake up on a beach they all descend to a mysterious cabin surrounded by a weird looking monster and a couple of paintings. Starring Miranda Raison, Sam Keeley, Elarica Johnson, Lorna Nickson Brown and Daniella Kertesz.

All Cheerleaders Die (2013) 6/10

Now, just based off the title, I thought this movie would be a load of garbage, but the movie was creative so you never knew what was gonna occur next. It's a decent sort of teen scare flick. Starring Caitlin Stasey, Brooke Butler, Sianoa Smit-McPhee, Tom Williamson and Reanin Johannink.

Boar (2017) 4/10

An outback town's residents and visiting family attempt to survive the bloodthirsty rampage of an extremely large killer Boar. It's not exactly brilliant but does provide a solidly entertaining gore fest with former WWE wrestler Nathan Jones (who's probably bigger than the Boar) throwing his weight about. Starring Simone Buchanan, Bill Moseley, Griffin Walsh, Christie-Lee Britten and Nathan Jones.

Kaw (2007) 6/10

Kaw makes a pretty decent film similar to the Birds with decent CGI used. A small town is attacked by blood thirsty ravens that feast on human flesh. Starring Sean Patrick Flanery, Kristin Booth, Megan Park, Stephen McHattie and Rod Taylor.

Most likely the film was cut to ribbons like a lot of these films. I was reading compulsory cuts were required to sequences of real animal cruelty. Cuts made in accordance with BBFC guidelines and policy.

I've seen the latest 1981 uncut version it was absolute pants.

Happy Death Day (2017) 5/10

Just a bit of a fun movie in a sense for the horror slasher buffs, but worth a view. Basically about a college girl endlessly reliving the same fateful events, she relives the same day again and again, locked in a uncomfortable loop until she can figure out who is trying to kill her. Starring Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, Rachel Matthews and Phi Vu.

From Within (2008) 6/10

A decent little horror flick the plot idea works well. The acting is fairly decent with Thomas Dekker who was awesome as John Connor in ( Terminator the Sarah Connor Chronicles). Mainly about a small town that falls under a deadly curse. Starring Elizabeth Rice, Thomas Dekker, Kelly Blatz, Laura Allen and Adam Goldberg.

Circus Kane (2017) 6/10

This film actually works out pretty well, and it has bucketloads of gore, a mansion full of booby-trapped rooms and diverse victims chosen to survive for a cash sum. And the group must fight for their lives to escape Kane's demented house of horror's. Starring Jonathan Lipnicki, Tim Abell, Richard Moll and Victoria Konefal.

Chained (2012) 6/10

All in all Chained surprised me with great performances from the two lead characters, definitely a film to check out with some suspense and a couple of slick twists. A bit of gore with a slit throat, a stabbing and some blood. Starring Vincent D'Onofrio, Eamon Farren, Evan Bird and Julia Ormond.

Patient Zero (2018) 5/10

I thought i would check out one of Natalie Dormer's latest movies. Not that great unfortunately the film follows a group of scientists, military men, and refugees locked inside an underground bunker where Morgan (Matt Smith) and Dr. Gina Rose (Natalie Dormer) work to find and develop a cure for zombies. Starring Natalie Dormer, Stanley Tucci, Matt Smith, John Bradley and Clive Standen.

Yeah I've only got the uncut version, I'll probably try and get round to watching Cannibal Holocaust as well shortly. I can't remember much about that one last time i saw the film many year's ago.

Happy Death Day 2U (2019) 6/10

Not a bad tongue-in-cheek comedy horror, in which basically picks up almost exactly where the original left off, the film once again focuses on Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) as she's forced to relive a day in her life over and over again. Starring Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Phi Vu, Suraj Sharma and Sarah Yarkin.

Edgar Allan Poe's Lighthouse Keeper (2016) 5/10

Not really sure what to make of this one a bit complicated. The film had that very dark, dreary, and dreamy feel to it that Poe was famous for, it's basically a story of a man that shipwrecks on a secluded island and loses consciousness, only to awaken and realize that he has no clue who he is. Starring Vernon Wells, Matt O'Neill and Rachel Riley.

The Car Road To Revenge (2019) 5/10

Wasn't all that great but well worth a watch if you like these sort of movies, about a city plagued by crime and corruption, an unsavoury attorney is savagely murdered and tossed out of a building onto his brand new car. Starring Micah Balfour, Jamie Bamber, Nina Bergman and Grant Bowler.

Bloodsucking Bastards (2015) 6/10

I quite liked this comedy horror it's probably one more notch on the belt for genre fans and another wickedly funny office comedy with a vampire twist for horror fans thirsting for more office related shenanigans. Starring Fran Kranz, Pedro Pascal, Joey Kern, Joel Murray and Emma Fitzpatrick.

Dracula The Impaler (2013) 4/10

A bit of a lame movie, about a group of high school seniors that plan a group trip to Europe following graduation, but get sidetracked when they divert their vacation to Transylvania to a castle which was notorious to Prince Vlad. Starring Diana Angelson, Christian Gehring, Christina Collard and Marcienne Dwyer.
