As we don't seem to have one of these.

A couple of good tunes to get started. Let's see if anyone else likes this stuff or whether the tumbleweed will be flowing on through.

I'll give you that one, I'd say it fits in the "soul jazz" subgenre - plus, I like it when jazz does pop hits

Excellent track, and also perfect music for when you want to tweak you sound system.

OTOH, I got this record a couple of years ago for only 2.99 iirc, and I only bought it because I knew Cecil Taylor was improv/avant garde jazz so I thought it would be interesting. And oh, also because I wanted to impress friends ;) I've listened to this particular track about ten times now and I'm none the wiser. All I'm hearing is unstructured noise. Perhaps some jazz buff can tell me what I should be listening to first and foremost in this erm tune?

Vanni, that Cecil Taylor Unit tune is right out of the Fast Show Jazz Club school of Jazz. :gr:

Anyhow some more. Something old, something new(er).

The incredible and unique sound of Stan Getz.

A modern(ish) and very different cover of the Mile Davis classic I posted above by Ronny Jordan (RIP).

Big Stan Getz fan but not heard that album. However the track immediately had me thinking of this - which still gets a lot of plays and I bought the album second hand in 1970.

That Cecil Taylor thing is the worst thing I've ever heard. Is he taking the piss?
It makes me want to vomit.

I have a Cecil Taylor album, which I got in a box of jazz records on Ebay. I don't understand it, and I don't often listen to it, but I defend its right to exist in the jazz world. Too "out" for me.

Horace was a badass, and his bass player looks proper "jazz" in this video. Fun fact - the drummer here is Prince's cousin

Horace Silver is very good, I really like the tune "Song for my Father".

Another old tune, but a good one. Very nice performance, don't know wtf the video is about though

Shouldn't you be policing the kebab eaters on the munching thread?
