I'd say budget is slightly less of a factor in the Championship because there's quite a number of clubs with sizeable budgets. The lower you go, the more prominent a decent budget becomes. Not always of course, but in league 1 last time, Birmingham and Wrexham would have had huge budgets...
Generally, the biggest budgets tend to be promoted from league 1. You'll undoubtedly sign a couple of duds but your vastly superior budget to most of the rest of the division will ensure You'll have more than enough to get promoted.
Rumoured that we were potentially in for Ihiekwe but I'm pretty certain that we wouldn't offer 3 years to a 32 year old...seems a little bonkers if you ask me but clearly they just want to build a strong side and worry about the future later. Seems a bit short term but good luck to them.
Oops...I've only just seen that he's gone! I'm sure they'll make a sensible replacement. Last time they were in league 1, they seemed a pretty well run club who were on the up....can't see that being derailed completely.
Also just read that their budget will be double what it was last time...
Never heard of him but you'd imagine he'll be of a pretty decent standard. Think Plymouth might do the best of the relegated sides. They're not a basket case, seem pretty well run and have a decent manager.
I definitely underestimated the league last time we came up. The actual general play isn't hugely different but the difference in both boxes , especially amongst the top 10, is huge. We regularly got punished by the opposition who actually only had 1 or 2 clear cut chances in the whole game...
As mentioned, we'll nowhere near have a top budget in this league. Probably at least a dozen if not more bigger. The 3 relegated sides are likely to have significantly bigger. But we certainly won't be pitching ourselves at 20th place. As we've shown already with the signing of Gabriel...
I agree but we survived our 1st season back in league 1 last time with a really shit squad. We just got worse in the 2nd season. This squad is better than both. What any of us 7 or 8 'smaller ' teams need to do is to get results from those around us...and I feel Moore is equipped for that...
I'm hoping we don't finish that low! We're better prepared this time, with a better squad and Moore should be able to attract some half decent signings. I'd hope for about 14th.
Yeah. Crewe got a bit giddy at one point but their squad depth was awful, as soon as they got a couple of injuries they dropped off massively. They start relying on kids as back up and it just doesn't work in that league.
On our podcast the other day, we had two journalists...one is a respected local paper writer Mike Bagguley and BBC Radio Stoke Vale reporter Phil Bowers. They've both had it from separate sources that we were 5th highest in terms of budget but I'm not sure whether that includes some of the...
It'll definitely be interesting. I guess our signings will tell us our ambitions for the season.
I just feel that to be in the top 5 or 6 in league 1, you've got to throw some serious wedge at it or be very lucky in the loan market(Orient) or happen upon a player who has the season of their...
I think it's luck of the draw as to whether they get recalled. Orient have been fortunate but if they're good players that make a difference, they're likely to be recalled in January.
