Someone on our message board mentioned the parallels between this season and our season in the conference back in 2004/05.
We were flying high, hammering teams, neck and neck with Barnet. Then the floods hit. We couldn't train, we had to play games at other clubs grounds. Our form fell of a...
Agree about Charters, the only thing I can think of is that he is the young player that was struggling with covid? Although I thought Beech said that was Bell?
Not sure Furman is the answer, though on the other hand we've not seen a lot of him. We have Guy who is top notch in the holding...
I rate him.
He's stepped up into midfield and looks a natural.
There's still a rawness about his game. Gets pulled out of position on occasions and sometimes the game passes him by as a result.
He doesn't mind the dirty side of the game, gets stuck in and got a good terrier like quality...
Joe Riley was also unlucky with his volley at the end of the 1st half.
Agree that Mellish looks off it, don't rate him that much anyway. Chris Lumsdon was right in commentary, we should've been looking to replace Mellish with Dickenson while on top to keep us pushing on.
We could afford to...
No it hasn't gone.
We would've beat 80% of the teams in this league with that performance tonight.
Tranmere looked very good but we stood up to them most of the match and pushed them back for large parts of the second half (especially unlucky not to score with the goal line clearance). A bit...
How do you know that? Nobody knows that until the games have been played.
It's a poor attitude that is both negative and defeatist.
It's the same as that rubbish about cup runs getting in the way of league form.
Some of the most successful Carlisle United teams in my time supporting have been...
Where exactly do you think Carlisle is on the map? It doesn't take 48 hours to drive back from Stevenage.
Tuesday night play a game of football, coach home, day off Wednesday, then training Thursday and Friday. Pretty bog standard preparation. With the continued rhythm of games we also don't...
Leading up to the end of the season Cambridge have to play Cheltenham, Bolton, Oldham, Forest Green, Carlisle, Morecambe, Tranmere, Exeter and Newport. To get 82 points you need to win 9 draw 3 and lose 4 from your 16 games. Looks like you need to go on some run.
Your post made it seem like we had a really difficult run-in when the truth is that we've pretty much got every team still to play.
You listed 9 games. We COULD lose 6 of those, draw 3 and still win promotion by winning the other 12 games. That's not how football works, but it doesn't work in...
Strange post. Why only pick out those teams?
We also have games against Colchester, Grimsby, Stevenage, Orient x2, Crawley, Southend, Scunthorpe, Barrow, Vale, Harrogate and Walsall.
To reach 82 points (usually enough) we need a record of 12 wins, 3 draws and 6 defeats from our remaining 21...
I'm finding these calls for the season to be extended embarrassing. It's bad enough listening to that crybaby Klopp going on about fixture congestion all the time. Chris Beechs take on it as been refreshing in the soft modern football world, basically saying there's nothing to be done and we'll...
Not seen that one mentioned, must be keeping it quiet around here. Is that proposal in opposition to the one I mentioned or something else? Not like the government to confuse matters. I don't think it's a good idea having Lancaster having influence on Cumbrian towns. Kendal hospital has become a...
You beat me to it, simply a case of age.
I've seen that but Lancaster doesn't have anything to do with it. Cumbria will be divided into two councils; Eden, Carlisle and Allerdale in the North and South Lakes, Barrow and Copeland in the South.
Makes sense. Having six separate councils in one...
Maybe you'd get a generational divide in the answer. The change took place in 1974 which is quite a while ago now although not that long ago that you'd have no Lancastrian born Barrovians knocking about.
Geographically speaking it makes perfect sense for Barrow to be part of Cumbria.
To me it's not a competition between places being better than other places. I believe its wonderful that in a land the size of Britain that we manage to have so many varying regions and towns with their own unique personalities and dialects. Without it we wouldn't have all the fun stereotypes...
Oh yeah there's some beautiful places in Lancashire. The Trough of Bowland is exceptional.
I guess with Lancashire it's hard not to think of those industrial towns, (there's also that Blackburn/Burnley area), in the same way that it's hard not to think of sheep when mentioning Cumbria.
Kendal...
Not at all. I've spent many a good day and night in Lancashire. Nothing wrong with the place and I like the dark dank style of the towns, there's a certain romanticism about it. However Kendal is not like Lancashire in its nature and I wanted to correct that statement.
