I was 3 1/2 years old, so too young. My first World Cup was in 1970 (and I remember fondly the Germany vs England match in the Quarterfinals )

England won the World Cup!

England was the best team of the tournament and this final was legend. The German team was alos praised highly afterwards for accepting the loss in a very sporting manner

The so-called "Wembley Goal" is one of the myth of football and with this Wembley (non-)goal maybe the now 50 year long curse of the three lions began . Afterwards England won none major trophy and Germany won another 3 World Cups and 3 Euros. I can live with the loss at the World Cup 1966.

This was the WC Qualifier (btw: It should've been Germany vs England 1:5 because it was played in Germany (I attended this match ). The first leg was won by Germany in England 1-0 ).

And 10 Months later Germany was in the World Cup Final 2002, nonetheless. And England?

I am perfectly okay when Germany loses the friendlies and the (not so important) Qualifiers against England. As long as we will win at the World Cup or Euro. In the Knockout rounds When was England's last victory against Germany in a World Cup or Euro K.o Match? Right, 1966
In the Euro 2000 England won 1-0 but this was in the Group stage. This was the absolute nadir of German Football with a nearly 40 year old Lothar Matthaus and the worst ever Coach, Erich Ribbeck.

edit: I've just checked the statistics of both matches. What a coincidence: The Referee in both games was the Italian Pierluigi Collina. That's the reason why we lost. An Italian Referee
