Yep. I like it how people treat bookies odds as just another opinion, like it's one bloke just listing them based on who he 'fancies'. A lot goes into these odds and they make a hell of a lot more money than they lost, mainly because the odds are accurate most of the time.

A bit of research perhaps. We've been mid table around 60 points for the last two years and contain the 2nd top scorer in the league from last season. It's just lazy from the bookmakers imo.

For some things, like actual matches, yes. Certainly not for Promotions and relegations in the lower leagues. They're more often wrong.

I expect us to finish top seven as a minimum and to challenge for the automatic spots.

As it currently stands we only have 11 contracted players + Grainger, but the core of the team ought to be more than good enough. I think you can make an argument (not saying they are) that Baudry is the best centre back in the league, Vincelot is the best centre midfielder, Henderson and Simpson are the best strike partnership, and Cox is the best player in the league. Lot depends whether we can keep them as there will be interest from higher up for sure in Baudry, Vincelot and Cox I'd have thought, but we have no need to sell.

If the season started tomorrow our line up would be:

Henderson - Simpson
Cox - Vincelot - James - McAnuff
Lowry - Baudry - Clarke - Pritchard
Woods

Could probably stick a decent prospects bench of Grainger, Ling, Kashket, Agyemang and Adeboyajo, but that starting line up I'd have thought should be top seven in the league as an absolute bare minimum.

We'll probably be adding eleven or so new faces, so will obviously depend on who they are, but we're probably going to have the biggest budget in the league (heck, our budget with half a squad is probably bigger than two - thirds of the league already, and no, that's not bragging, that's fucking depressing) so will have the financial nous to attract new players.

It's been confirmed Becchetti has no intentions of selling, a quote recently by CEO Alessandro Angelieri is essentially that the target is promotion this season, then promotion again the season after... No pressure Hendon.

But then again, last season I think most people had us and Bristol City down for promotion, so really, who has a clue? Oh, and we're still under a transfer embargo for not filing our accounts.

I think the best comparison is Swindon when they were here last. Lost the play off final, defied all expectations and got relegated the season after. Monster budget, but off field question marks. Won League Two.

I fancy a fiver on Luton though.

How do you define 'wrong'? If you mean that the favourite for promotion gets promoted and the favourite for relegation gets relegated, yes, they're more than often wrong however that's not what odds are. Will the bookies lose money on these bets? You better believe they don't therefore they're not wrong.

The poster asked why Oxford were short odds ... let's use Pompey an an example, no matter how bad a squad they put together, they will never be at 40/1 incase 20000 odd stick a tenner on and ruin the bookmaking industry if they do win, scale it down a little and you get to Oxford, bookies won't lose much sleep if they get it wrong with Daggers or Accy

That's what happened to us in 2006/2007. Play off final, relegated, big budget, come back up. And they didn't win L2 that year but anyway I reckon you're in for a dogfight this year.

There's a history of sides coming down from L1 and then having a real struggle (us, Tranmere the most recent). There are probably more teams that struggle than go straight back up from here. You're totally not right off the pitch either and have players who probably don't want to play in L2 under an inexperienced boss with a nutjob chairman.
