What’s the craic with Charlie Austin? His stats don’t look too bad.

A luxury you cannot afford or injury prone?

Not strictly squad related, but far more important at this stage: Darrell Clarke is in talks over an improved contract with us. Would be absolutely massive if we can get that over the line.

Strange how it's gone from "it's not about money, but I want to see a plan for the future" to "Darrell Clarke is in talks about an improved contract"

Hepburn-Murphy looked decent against Rovers, any surprise at his release Swindon fans?

Not really he's a bit hit and miss and injury/having a strop prone. Can really turn it on at times but too unreliable imo.

A club legend but coming to the end of his career I'm afraid. Really passionate about his football and any club he plays for . Not sure about the wage he was on but probably was a factor given our situation.

Sad to see Young leave, the only one left from the old era. He's seen some shite in his time that's for sure. Not often you get a player who stays for 7 seasons at a club in the lower leagues.

Hayden and Tunnicliffe are both easily L2 level centre backs but they are never fit.

I think McFadzean, Young and, despite his age, Tozer, would be solid signings at this level.

Tunnicliffe and Hayden are good players but their injury record has been poor for the last two years.

I hope we keep Scott Butler, always looks decent whenever I've seen him but he needs to start pushing for inclusion with he first team.

Butlers issue now is he counts towards the 22.

He may be re-signed but loaned out to a NL team

Would take Tozer back to replace Curtis Davies.
Seems like yesterday that we were in that transfer standoff with getting him. Was more than worth it in the end, big transfer fee and 3 year deal and he played a massive part in getting us all the way to L1. Job done.

I think that's the issue. He needs to be better than NL level by now.

As Master D says Ben Tozer has proved to be a great signing for us, after all the furore around his signing. Massive part in developing the winning mentality the club has had and goes with everyone's thanks. I doubt there are too many Wrexham fans who don't acknowledge the huge part he's played over the last three years.

There are a few murmurs about Austin that he wasn't Gunning's biggest fan. I *think* he wants more of a player/coach type role and I don't *think* the club were willing to. On the pitch he's obviously still got the touch when it comes to finishing, 2 excellent goals against Morecambe last game of the season. But he's now very slow and a lot of stuff he does seems to be in slow motion. Again, his wage has been discussed, I've heard he's either on a fortune or hardly anything, but ultimately I've no idea. You'd imagine he'd command a reasonable wage given his rep and we're very much tightening the purse strings. Aaron Drinan who I suspect is his replacement has looked OK so I reckon we've decided to say goodbye to Charlie, after his 200 and 201st career goals. He's definitely not injury prone so no issues there.

You gave us £200k for a bloke not worth half that.

Win-win all round in the end.
More than worth that to us......He gave us exactly what we needed at the time, club captained us to back to back promotions, integral to the first one and still important to this second one.

At the end of the package we have ended up in the League above you, so definitely a Win on our side, if you have been better off without him, or the 100k made a difference then win-win indeed.

This retained list was always going to hurt, Lainton, Tozer and especially Young will be missed greatly off the field and as part of the club if not the first team.

Hayden is such a shame though, looked like he could be with us for years until injuries set him back to far to come back from.

All speedboat and no driver. Pace to burn and I think does have ability but he's been so inconsistent. One game looks a game changer, the next a drunk competition winner. I guess that's what you get in league 2. I quite liked him as an option of the bench, but I think he probably needs consistent first team football and I wish him luck at his next club.

That George McEachran absolutely screams Notts. Everything about him.

Could very much see that happening. I like GMac, technically very good accomplished midfielder. Looked better when we finally signed a DMC 7 games before the end of the season. Will go and be a very good signing for someone I reckon.

I think we became a better team without him. Our promotion year we became known as the long throw specialists and we did actually start playing for fucking throw-ins. When he went, we became a better footballing team. Not only that, but we replaced him in the first season with Mattie Pollock and the second season with Caleb Taylor - both of whom were levels above him in terms of quality at the time and certainly are now.

To pay his contract up would have been around £50k I believe, you paid us 4 times that, even financially it was a better deal for us. It was £50k less than we got for our best ever player two years later.

It was definitely win-win

We love ourselves one of these technical ex-big academy midfielders who 'suit our style', first choice will be Palmer/Robertson/Crowley but we've made room for at least another after releasing Bostock. They've mostly been successful apart from that Colkett lad we signed from Crewe with one leg as well to be fair.

Tozer wants to move back down south. Cheltenham ticks the boxes, Yeovil if they give him a long contract would be ideal for him. Fadz, Young will get a L2 team I'd imagine. Hayden a real shame he could of been here for years based on ability but he just can't stay fit, big shame. Tunnicliffe in the same boat

Stockport County.
Nobody can afford these Wrexham cast offs as they are earning £20k a week
They're earning £0 a week after being released.

Will they maybe have to realign financial expectations? Yes, of course.

Young was linked to us in January we could be interested in him I'd say
