Pondy leaves after 15 years with Fleetwood Town Football Club. 498 appearances, awarded a Guinness World Record for becoming the only player to play in 7 different divisions for one club, been at the club as long as our Chairman Andy Pilley. I remember him going out on loan to Grimsby for ( I think a whole season ) and he came back even stronger
Joining Salford City and he goes with the best wishes of not only every Fleetwood fan but fans from many other clubs as well

Cheers mate !

Would Pond be Fleetwood's biggest ever legend?

Are there any other clubs in this divison who's biggest ever legend still plays for them (or has just left)? Donny are the other ones I can think of with Coppinger and I'm not sure if he's there's biggest ever.

He probably is for anyone who can’t remember the 50s, longetivity, plus relative success means he’s one of our biggest ever legends

Not in this division, and he doesn't play anymore, but arguably our biggest ever legend is our current manager.

Alan Cork played for Wimbledon in 4 divisions but Pond beat that by a considerable margin.

Pond's days at Fleetwood were numbered but if he can get a payoff from the class of 92, why not?

Agreed. The problem is they could come up with another hobby club in AFC Fylde.

I would say he is still regarded as our greatest but Copps is running him close and will probably overtake if he signs a new contract and sees his playing career out with us.

He was awesome for us mate, it was a loan until Jan 1st then you wanted him back, seem to think you had a new manager who wanted to look at him otherwise we were hoping to sign him permanent if my memory serves me well.

Bit harsh. Name me a club which makes it up the leagues which isn't bankrolled. Question. How do you it if you are not bankrolled. You need to first build a snowman before it will gather snow. At least they are investing in the community

Cheers GTFCish, glad you avoided the the drop, do you think the management will have learnt from this season and ensure there is no repeat performance come August ?

We where never bankrolled - we grew organically and had luck along the way.

So, you make a profit or break even every year, your owners never have to put funds in to make up any shortfall?

They were for sure before they went up to the championship. I'm guessing they made quite a bit from TV money and I don't remember them spending much.

With the crowds they get no chance, wages alone would be significant otherwise they wouldn’t stay.

We make an operating profit every season. Down to the commercial revenue from the ground, as it is used for corporate events etc.
It’s all about cutting your cloth - unlike Salford who are banking on promotion to justify the expense from their board

Anyway - back on thread.
What a legend the guy was. Real servent to fleetwood, and instrumental in their meteoric rise through the leagues

Without looking at the accounts I wouldn’t know for sure. I don’t remember them having too many big players or ones on big contracts though.

Burton have always been a very well run club, it used to be true that if they ditched the football side of the business they'd make a hell of a lot more profit. Not sure that's true now they've been in the heady heights of the championship.

Also a great club with decent fans that many, at all levels, could learn from.

The trouble with well run clubs ,which Bradford have found out, is, you are always competing against clubs which are not well run. its a hard philosophy to sell to Supporters
