If Villa can somehow win this it will spice things up at the bottom and top of the table. Hoping new manager syndrome works here. Villa 2-1 City. Please. COME ON VILLA!

It'll take a long time for the sneaking suspicion that they can shoot themselves in both feet to go away.

Throw in the new manager, City on the back of an excellent performance, the most hated player in the world (it seems) making his first return to his old club while still recovering from injury, everyone classing it as an absolute banker...

And it's not like it hasn't happened before with Villa.

Better?

Christ, we're bad, but we haven't dropped to 3rd in the Championship yet!

Also, we're going to get a battering.

Must say though, I like Garde already, Gabby doesn't even make the matchday squad!

Can only assume we're playing a 4-1-2-1-2 from the looks of our team.

Guzan
Hutton Richards Clark Amavi
Sanchez
Gueye Veretout
Gil
Ayew Sinclair

Could be a 4-5-1 mind you with Gil on the right and Sinclair on the left...

Sterling is the only player on the pitch who has looked a threat so far.

I'm impressed so far, it's nice to watch us doing something other than giving the ball away every two seconds and actually having some confidence. If we can get something happening up top, we could nick this, City haven't looked too threatening yet.

Cue us losing 4-0.

Replay showed that Sterling had his foot stood on. I never like players doing the 'starfish' flop, but also its a shame refs will never give anything if you do stay on your feet.

More contact than the booking and free kick at the other and anyway!

Anyway, all set up for a 90th minute winner from Delph. Probably an OG...

No ref is giving a penalty for that, Silky. And yeah I agree on there being no contact on Gil for the FK and booking, however, had he not jumped over the challenge, it would have been. Still, wasn't a free kick imo but I'm not going to complain at decisions going our way for a fucking change.

And he didn't give it. Doesn't make it 'a dive' though. He was clipped and taken off balance.

Anyway, city should be ahead now. Not sure how he kept out that Sterling header.

City are looking much more of a threat in the second half, and it's going to be a long last 30 mins for Villa to hold on.

That ball from De Bruyne across the box to Navas is quality, then the Spaniard does his typical hit the first defender cross.

Somebody tell him that he's playing Sevilla.

De bruyne failing miserably with the back heel when it looked easier just to smash it into the back of the net!

City are really on top now, can't see Villa holding out.

Was that just an offside from a throw?
