We need to be beating poxy little teams such as these if we want to climb the table. We owe them one for what happened last time we played them there, and we will deliver a result tomorrow night no question.

Looking forward to this.

We had to bring Taylor, Gaffney and Lines off the bench on Saturday rather than start them given their 120 minute exploits in our FA Cup replay the previous Tuesday, but they should be fresh enough to start tomorrow. Hopefully that gives us an added impetus and allows us to get right at Charlton from the start.

Defensively it was a big boost to keep a clean sheet against MK, so if we can build on that too there's every chance we will get a result.

Let's have this right. Charlton are in absolute disarray and any Addicks fan with any bollocks or integrity is leaving well alone till that awful twat fucks off.
On the game, we need to be battering bums like this. 4-1 I reckon.

Gutted this is a Tuesday night, one of the best away days in the league lost.

Tough game this especially without two key players in Holmes and Solly who are both out for a lengthy time with injuries.

Was an important win on Saturday to try and keep some momentum going after the disappointing defeat last week so hopefully we can go into this game with some confidence still there. Kevin Nugent takes charge again and i'd like to see him go 4312 with perhaps Botaka coming into the side and Jackson going back into the middle. I'd hate to see us set-up for a draw from the off with the attacking threats we have.

That said, I would be pleased with a draw all things considered but a win would be excellent to set us up for the visit of Sheffield United at the weekend.

1-2

Given the disontent amongst the fans and media coverage you'd think Charlton were having a bad season and that's not really the case. Win their game in hand and they're just 1 point off the play off's.

They've probably drawn too many games, particularly away from home. They've actually only lost twice on the road all season and only once since the opening day but have drawn 5 of the other 6.

I'd say we're in average form at the moment. We've only won one of our last four in the league and only scored three goals but we were unlucky against Posh and had a man sent off early at Millwall.

I think this might be a similar game to Saturdays against MK. I'm expecting a very close encounter which like most matches in L1 could go either way. I'll say 1-1 and I wouldn't be too disappointed with that.

Holmes, Solly, Novak and Rudd all out injured :ffs:

Left back Adam Chicksen also starts ahead of Botaka in midfield.

Please, please can we just have a proper, competent manager before Saturday.

Beginning to think that posh fan might have had a point.

Just flicking through the Rovers forum and it's full of the "Charlton weren't even that good" and "Charlton weren't even good, it's just that we worse" posts.

My favourite though is "Charlton weren't as good as MK"

You lot are in for a right shoeing when you do play someone that is 'that good'.

Not sure there's anything particularly wrong about those statements, we were utterly dreadful tonight. Worst since we went out of the FL for me.

We would have conceded 8 or 9 against Millwall based on the other week for example. Not demeaning to Charlton, just that it was our own fault rather than being outplayed by the opposition. Loads of silly errors.

Ah well, important we bounce back now, certainly got the capability to do so! Least the City fans got a good laugh, it's been a while :P1:

Yeah, get all that and fans from every side will come out with comments similar but if someone scores 5 goals away from home - they've played reasonably well.

Not sure about the comparisons to Millwall though, they were at home and played pretty much the entire game against 10 men (I know you went down to 10 yesterday but it was already 3-0) whereas we were away from home, without a manager and 4 first teamers yet from what I heard and have since read last night could have been 6 or 7 with Roos pulling off a good save and having one off the line.

My post was more about the ridiculous statement about not being as good as MK, the same team who drew 0-0 with you and are 10 places and 8 points behind us. Everything would suggest that we are probably slightly better.

As for the game, I have always said that our starting 11 are a decent side, I said to Aber Gas in the shoutbox that last night's performance has always been in there somewhere and Rovers were just the unfortunate ones to flack it.

Also, a 2-0 and 5-1 win with the same players (even a weaker side last night) highlights how bad a manager Russell Slade was/is.

I'm glad we could do our bit to bring you back from your hiatus.

Is this a welcome back?

We actually had more possession, more shots and more corners but managed to lose 5-1.

To be honest I thought we did okay in the first half. We had plenty of attacking play and could easily have scored a couple of goals. I'm not sure the half time changes were necessary, they certainly didn't work. Charlton were ahead thanks to a long range deflected shot and some poor defending just before half time. I think that goal just before the break made Clarke change tactics but I think we'd have been better sticking with 4-4-2. I personally didn't think the wingers were doing too badly. Both Monty and Moore put in near perfect crosses from which Taylor nearly scored. He had another effort brilliantly saved by the keepers legs. I thought we were causing them problems and maybe the introduction of Bodin or Easter might have been a better option.

Second half was very poor. Even before JCS went off we were struggling and as I said the change in formation really didn't work.

Charlton were clinical. According to the BBC stats they had 5 shots on target and scored 5 goals. They looked a decent side without being anything really special. We just self destructed on the night, particularly in the second half. Well played Addicks.
